You don’t have to sail the high seas or come across an ancient map to find buried treasure. In fact, all around us, precious metals are located just beneath the surface waiting to be found. All you need to start hunting is a metal detector!

Assembly:

When removed from the box, the detector will be in two pieces connected by a wire. Carefully bring together the two pieces of the extendable stem and insert the lower section into the upper section at the loosened locking nut. Be sure the wire stays within the tube sections.
Adjust the height so that you can walk comfortably with the search coil at an optimal distance of 1/2 to 2 inches above the ground.
Tighten the locking nut counterclockwise to secure the two pieces of the stem together.
Once the stem is fully assembled, adjust the position of the search coil by loosening the knobs at the coil and rotating its angle until it’s parallel with the ground. Tighten the knobs just enough to keep the coil from rotating or wobbling.
Install the battery on the handle of the detector, by loosening the screw of the battery compartment cover. Insert a 9-volt battery in the compartment making sure to keep the proper polarities aligned. Tighten the screw on the battery compartment.

Operation:

Angle the LCD screen so that it is perpendicular to the stem.
Push the power switch on the handle to turn on the detector. A green LED light should appear to indicate the detector is ready to use. A series of curved lines will appear on the LCD screen.
Hold the detector in a comfortable position with the search coil parallel to a flat surface with no metal objects.
Place a sample coin on the ground and sweep the coil in a slow side-to-side motion over the sample. When the detector finds a metallic object, the LCD screen will display a symbol of a target with an arrow in the middle and the LED light on the handle will turn red. You will also hear beeping sounds.
After this test, start hunting!
Note: The search coil is water-resistant and can be submerged in either fresh or saltwater. However, DO NOT let water enter the handle or LCD screen.
Once you find a target, place the detector down carefully before you begin to dig. Dropping the device may damage the circuit board, stem, or coil. Always fill in any holes that you dig!
To switch off the detector, push the power switch again. When the LCD displays an empty battery symbol, replace the battery.

Hints for searching:

Sweep the search coil in a smooth side-to-side motion, and not as if it was a pendulum.
Be patient and take your time while searching because you may miss a target if you walk too fast.

Places to search:

The beach is a great place to begin because you will get fewer competing signals on a sandy beach and it will be easier to dig there;
Under trees where people may have sat to rest;
At the homes of your relatives — especially those that live in older homes;
Your own front and/or back yards; or
Areas where historic battles occurred (Be sure to ask permission first because you may not be able to remove objects from these locations)

Know these important rules of metal detecting and digging:

Some parks and public land prohibit metal detecting and digging. Always check first.
Always ask for permission from the property owner before entering private property.
Do not destroy historical or archaeological treasures. If you are not sure about an object that you have found, try contacting a museum or historical society in your area.
Be responsible and cover the holes that you dig.

Cleaning tips:

After using the search coil in water, be sure to dry it thoroughly. If it was used in saltwater, rinse it with fresh water to prevent corrosion of the metal parts. To clean the stem, dampen a cloth (not included) and gently wipe away any residue.
The LCD screen and handle can be wiped down with a soft cloth. Protect the device against dirt and dust, and always leave it to dry properly after use at room temperature before storing.
