  2. Inspect the shop press before each use. DO NOT use if bent, broken, cracked, leaking or otherwise damaged, any suspect parts are noticed or it has been subjected to a shock load.
  3. Check to ensure that all applicable bolts and nuts are firmly tightened.
  4. DO NOT use the shop press to compress spring or any other item that could disengage and cause a potential hazard. Never stand directly in front of a loaded press and never leave a loaded press unattended.
  5. DO NOT make any modifications to the press.
  6. DO NOT use brake fluid or any other improper fluid and avoid mixing different types of oil when adding hydraulic oil. only good quality hydraulic jack oil can be used.
HYDRAULIC PRECAUTIONS
  1. Do not attempt makeshift repairs to the hydraulic system. Such repairs can fail suddenly and create a hazardous condition.

  2. Wear proper hand and eye protection when searching for a high-pressure hydraulic leak.
Use wood or cardboard as a backstop instead of hands.

  3. If hydraulic fluid penetrates the skin, seek medical attention immediately. Serious infection or toxic reaction will develop.

TOOL USE AND CARE
  1. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool. The tool will perform better and more safely at the task for which it was intended.

  2. This shop press was designed for a specific function.
    Do Not:

  3. Modify or alter the shop press; all parts and accessories are designed with built-it safety features that may be compromised if altered.

  4. Use the shop press in a way for which it was not designed.

  5. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean and in good condition for a better and safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Inspect tool fittings and alignment periodically and, if damaged, have them repaired or replaced by an authorized technician. The handles must be kept clean, dry and free from oil and grease at all times. A properly maintained tool reduces the risk of binding and is easier to control. Applying excessive force can lead to slips and damage to your work piece or personal injury.

  6. Only use the lubricants supplied with the tool or specified by the manufacturer. Other lubricants may not be suitable and may damage the tool or even make the tool explode.

  7. When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the steel parts to avoid rust.

  8. Maintain the label and nameplate on the shop press. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto for a replacement.

OPERATION

You may wish to first practice using the shop press on a piece of scrap material.

CAUTION! Before each use, thoroughly test the hydraulic jack (6) for proper operation prior to its actual use. If the hydraulic jack appears not to be working properly, follow the instructions in the Bleeding the Hydraulic Jack section.

CAUTION! Do not operate the hydraulic jack in temperatures colder than -5°C (23°F) as the oil will thicken and not flow properly.

MAINTENANCE

  1. Change the hydraulic oil at least once every three years. To change the hydraulic oil:
  2. With the jack completely compressed, remove the oil filler plug.
  3. Tip the jack to allow the hydraulic oil to drain out of the housing completely. Dispose of old hydraulic oil in accordance with local regulations.
  4. Completely fill the housing with a high quality hydraulic jack oil (not included) until the oil just begins to run out of the oil filler hole.
  5. Reinstall the oil filler plug.
  6. Clean with a clean cloth using a detergent or mild solvent and wipe dry.
  7. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears to be damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it would operate properly and perform its intended functions. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts, for broken parts or mounting fixtures, or for any other condition that may affect proper operation.
  8. Use only identical replacement parts or accessories intended for use with the shop press when servicing. Replace damaged parts immediately.
  9. Keep the tool clean. Wipe the tool with a clean cloth and periodically blow out all areas with compressed air. If compressed air is not available, use a brush to remove dust from areas. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents to clean the tool.
  10. Regularly inspect all mountings and nuts and bolts to ensure tightness. Should any nuts and bolts become loose, tighten immediately.
BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC JACK

Before the first use, check for proper hydraulic oil level in the jack. Then thoroughly test the jack for proper operation prior to its actual use. If the jack does not work properly, bleed excess air from its hydraulic system as follows:

  1. Open the release valve.
  2. Remove the oil filler plug and fill the jack with hydraulic fluid to full level.
  3. Apply pressure to the saddle, and pump the jack handle quickly several times.
  4. Check the oil filler hole and, if necessary, top off the oil filler hole with hydraulic oil.
  5. Replace the oil filler plug and close the release valve.
  6. Test the jack several times for proper operation before putting it into use. If, after bleeding, the jack still does not appear to be working properly, do not use the jack until a qualified service technician has repaired it.
LUBRICATION
  1. It is important that the tool be properly lubricated. Without proper lubrication the tool will not work properly and parts will wear prematurely. Avoid over-lubricating the tool.
  2. Use the proper lubricant and fill or lubricate parts only as necessary. Use only recommended lubricants. Substitutes may harm the rubber compounds in the tool’s O-rings and other rubber parts.
  3. Lubricate before storing. In the event that it becomes necessary to store the tool for an extended period of time (overnight, weekend, etc.,) it should receive a generous amount of lubrication at that time.

WARNING! NEVER use penetrating oils to clean or lubricate your tool. Penetrating oil is a solvent that will break down the internal grease and cause the tool to seize up.

STORAGE
Lubricate before storing. In the event that it becomes necessary to store the shop press for an extended period of time (overnight, weekend, etc.,) it should receive a generous amount of lubrication at that time to prevent rust.
NOTE: Store the shop press in an upright position.

DISPOSING OF THE TOOL
If your shop press has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Bring it to the appropriate recycling facility
