THE BLICKMAN DIFFERENCE
- The Nezzie by Blickman was created by a thoracic surgeon to significantly improve patient ambulation.
- It holds most devices, monitors, oxygen tanks, and IV poles, thereby eliminating the need to transfer and carry each item individually during ambulation.
- Wrap-around adjustable handle design accommodates the individual patient size and contributes to patient safety and confidence during ambulation.
- Antimicrobial paint and the ability to be dedicated to one patient at a time improves infection control.
- It is specifically designed to reside bedside, requiring no more room than a standard IV pole, and uses four casters to pivot 360° in tight spaces, such as bathrooms.
Key Product Features
WHY CHOOSE NEZZIE?
FOR PATIENT:
- Improves patients’ safety and satisfaction of care
- Improves patients’ independence and sense of well being
- Reduces complications of immobility
- Lowers incidence of readmission due to hospital-acquired debility and deconditioning
FOR STAFF:
- Improves staff safety and satisfaction of care
- Less staff is required to assist with ambulation allowing for more one-on-one care
FOR DEPARTMENT:
- Increases department workflow and efficiency by freeing up nurses to do other duties
- Reduces costs
REDUCED COSTS
Annual savings in Labor Costs per Year for One Nezzie are Calculated Below
365 Yearly Ambulation Hours per Patient
Hours
An average patient ambulates for 20 minutes three times a day, which is 1 hour
a day or 365 hours per year of ambulation per patient.
Number of Staff Needed for l Patient to Ambulate
Staff Members
On average, 3 staff members are needed for a patient. With the Nezzie, only 1 staff member is needed, freeing up 2 staff members.
Hours of Ambulation Assistance Per Year
Worker Hours
For 3 staff, a total of 1,095 worker hours per year are used for
ambulation. For one staff member, only 365 worker hours are used.
Cost of Ambulation Assistance Per Year
Considering $20 is the average hourly rate for a nurses’ aid, it would cost
$21,900 for 1,095 hours of labor from three staff members, as opposed to
$7,300 for 365 hours from one staff member.
STABILITY TEST
SET UP:
- The test was performed with IV poles overextended to 82″
- 10 lb. weight was attached to the top of each IV stand to simulate IV bags
- 20 lb. weight was placed close to the base of the device to simulate an oxygen tank
PERFORMED:
- The device was lifted 10° to check for stability
- At 10°, the device was checked for tip-over test using a half-inch hazard
RESULT:
- The device maintained its stability at a 10° angle
- The device did not roll over and/or tip over a 1/2″ hazard at a 10° angle
“Nezzie allowed me the freedom to walk with confidence and security.
It made a big difference in my recovery after my operation.”
-Ray Drew Cardiac Surgery Patient
ULTIMATE LOAD TEST
SET UP:
- Test was set up with loads applied to locations on the Nezzie that would hold weight
- Locations included:
– Top of the device, 1″ from the edge
– Hanger, 2″ – 3″ from the end
– Handles, 2″ – 3″ from the ends
PERFORMED:
- Force and deflection were recorded using a compression test machine
RESULT:
- The device maintained its stability at a 10° angle
- The device did not roll over and/or tip over a half-inch hazard at a 10° angle.
PUSH AND PULL FORCE TEST
SET UP:
- The test was performed with increments of loads up to 200 lbs. on the tray shelf of the device
PERFORMED:
- Static and kinetic force for the push and pull of the device were recorded using a force gauge
RESULT:
Weight (lbs.) | Static (lbs.) | Kinetic (lbs.) |

20 | 2.8 | 2.4 |

Ambulation Devices
Holders for External O2 Tanks
The Nezzie is a compact design to maneuver in tight spaces, however, for
longer ambulation, a patient may require additional oxygen tanks that are
easier to access in order to switch out the old for new. For these situations,
increase your Nezzie’s capacity from two oxygen tanks to four by ordering a
tank holder kit for the Nezzie or a separate tank holder and accessory clamp
for the Nezzie Jr.
TANK HOLDER KIT FOR STANDARD NEZZIE
The tank holder kit includes two small brackets, two small slides, two 1380
clamps, two 1386 tank holders, and necessary hardware. This allows for two
oxygen tanks outside the body of the Nezzie in addition to the two internal
oxygen tanks inside the body of the Nezzie.
