Caution
TVAC should only be used by personnel who have received proper training on procedures for suctioning an oral airway. Improper use of TVAC could cause injury. Use TVAC  as directed by your EMS authority or by a physician.
TVAC is NOT designed to be used on children under age eight.

Construction
The TVAC manual suction device is made of a rigid plastic suction tube, a suction bulb and a collection bag for aspirated liquids. Backflow of aspired contents is prevented by one-way valves.

Instructions For Trained Medic

  • Remove TVAC from its package. Keep the package nearby and available for use as the disposal package.

  • Grasp the bulb with one hand and the suction tube with the other.
IMPORTANT: Pull out the suction tube until it is fully extended.

  • Use finger sweeps to remove foreign matter from the patient’s airway.

  • Grasp the suction bulb and squeeze it firmly.

  • Keep the bulb in the fully squeezed position as you insert the suction tube into the back of the patient’s throat, being careful not to insert the tube farther than you can see.

  • Release the already-squeezed bulb, enabling it to remove liquid in the patient’s airway.

  • Continue to squeeze and release the bulb to remove all liquids into the collection bag. A one-way valve will prevent the backflow of collection fluids.

  • IMPORTANT: If the collection bag becomes filled, cut a small corner of the bag to allow its contents to be removed so that suctioning can continue.
Failure to cut the corner of the bag will cause the air vent to expel fluid and impede the suctioning.

  • Once the patient’s airway is cleared with TVAC, take any other necessary steps to maintain the cleared airway.
