PARTS OF THE BINOCULAR
- A. Ocular lens
- B. Focus wheel
- C. Twist-up, multiple-position eyecup
- D. Diopter adjustment ring
- E. Strap attachment
- F. Tripod adapter socket cover
- G. Objective lens
CAUTION – binoculars should not be used to look at the sun or any other bright light – this can permanently damage your eyes.
FITTING THE BINOCULAR FOR USE:
INTERPUPILLARY DISTANCE (IPD)
The interpupillary distance or IPD is the distance between the center of your
left and right eyes. To maximize the field-of-view and fit to your eyes you
should adjust the IPD to your face. To do this simply rotate the barrels of
the binocular inward together until both eyes see the image clearly and
comfortably.
EYE RELIEF
The eyecups on your Maven binocular twist up so that any viewer can see the
full field-of-view – with or without glasses. For best viewing with glasses
twist cups all the way in. Depending on your facial structure or your angle of
viewing, you might like the eye-cups twisted out one or more clicks.
DIOPTER ADJUSTMENT
Everyone has slight differences between strength and focus of their right and left eyes. Maven binoculars allow you to micro-adjust the diopter adjustment ring to allow for these differences. Scan code to right to watch our setup video.
To accomplish this:
- Direct the binocular at an object more than 50 feet away from you.
- Cover the right barrel with your hand and bring the left eye into perfect focus with the center focus wheel.
- Cover the left objective end with one hand and use the diopter ring to finely adjust the focus for your right eye.
STRAP CONNECTION
Maven binoculars come with a quick-connect strap system. This allows you to
employ our padded neckstrap. The quick-connect straps utilize webbing instead
of split-rings or zip ties to protect your binocular while still firmly
connecting the binocular.
To connect the strap (girth hitch):
- Unclip the quick-connections from the included strap.
- Place one end of one loop through the binocular strap attachment.
- Slide the plastic clip back through the loop.
- Repeat steps on the other side.

FULL SIZE BINOCULAR LANDSCAPE CONNECTION
These models come with an ocular lens cap that connects to the quick connect
strap described previously.
To connect the ocular lenscap:
- Place the lenscaps on the ocular side of your binoculars so that the gated (split) side is to the right.
- Feed the quick-connection on the left side through the loop. This should be tight. Don’t worry, the loop is flexible.
- Push the quick-connection strap on the right side through the gated side. This split is intentionally added to allow the lenscaps to be easily removed from one side so that they can swing away for unobstructed viewing.
LENSCAP RETAINER
B.3 models come with an optional-use lenscap retainer. To connect the lenscap
retainer (girth hitch):
- Place the cord loop through the left lenscap, then slide the plastic clip back through the cord loop.
- Disconnect the plastic loop from the clip. Slide the strap connection loop through the plastic loop and follow the directions above to complete the girth hitch. Make sure to keep the plastic loop in place and slide it through the loop with the strap connection clip.
- Snap the two plastic lenscap retainer clips together.
USING YOUR BINOCULAR WITH A TRIPOD
Maven B-Series binoculars have the ability to be mounted on a tripod with the use of our Tripod Adapter (A. sold separately).
To connect the adapter:
- Remove the Tripod Adapter Socket Cover.
- Thread on the Tripod Adapter.
- Attach Tripod Adapter to tripod.
CARING FOR YOUR BINOCULAR
To maintain maximum performance of your Maven binoculars, keep the lenses free of dirt, dust and grit. Protect the lenses with the included lens covers or use a case. It is best to store your Maven binocular in its carry bag when not in use.
CLEANING
The eyecup can be removed and rinsed with clean water.
- Hold the eyecup and twist counterclockwise until the eyecup is removed from the binocular frame.
- Rinse with water.
To clean the lenses:
- Gently remove any dirt, dust or grit with pressurized air or a soft optical brush.
- Clean lenses of smudges or oil by using a small amount of liquid (fogging with your own breath or using optical cleaning fluid) and a micro-fiber lens cloth. The Maven binocular storage bag makes a good cleaning cloth. Ensure that the cloth is free from dirt and grit so as to not scratch the lenses. NEVER use a t-shirt, facial tissue or heavy cotton cloth on your lenses as they can scratch the lenses.
