PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The structure of this dressing is designed to provide the following goals:

  • Helping with the fight against bacterial overgrowth, biofilm, and wound Infection
  • Absorbing exudate (wound discharge)
  • Providing an ideal moist wound healing environment

Areza Antibacterial Alginate with Silver combines the power of silver particles and natural alginate extracted from seaweed.

Alginate polymers are naturally present in the cell walls of seaweed cells. As a hydrophilic polysaccharide, alginate consists of two types of carbohydrates: mannuronic acid (M) and guluronic acid (G), and possesses the remarkable ability to absorb liquids.

Silver particles offer robust protection against microbial colonization, showcasing broad-spectrum antibacterial properties.

The silver concentration is 50 micrograms per 100 square centimeters of the dressing’s surface area.

The other beneficial features of this product include:

  • The moist, gel-like state also facilitates autolytic debridement (loosening of dead tissue on wound surface)
  • The moist, gel-like dressing does not adhere to the wound, allowing for an easy removal.

This unique combination of silver particles and natural alginates makes the dressing highly effective for optimal wound healing.

HOW IT WORKS:

When being placed directly on a wound with exudate, the dressing simultaneously renders absorptive and antibacte-rial effects. The ensuing changes are:

  • First : the dressing begins to absorb the wound exudate.

The dry form of the 4.25”x4.25” size of this dressing weighs about 2 mg (0.07 oz). When it fully soaked, the weight is about 20 gm (0.7 oz). That means the dressing can absorb liquid of about 10 times of its dry weight.

  • Second : The dressing then transforms into a soft, moist, comfortable, non-adhering gel-like material, covering the wound.
  • Third: The moist dressing simultaneously provides the following two major functions:
    A. It steadily releases silver (Ag) onto the wound surface/bed (peak release is in the first 24 hours).

Bacterial biofilm and infection pose common challenges in wound care.
B. The moist dressing provides a moist wound environment as well, an essential element for faster wound healing.

Achieving adequate wound moisture and minimizing/eradicating wound infection (bacterial and fungal) are two very important interventions in order to facilitate wound healing. This dressing is designed to fulfill both of these interventions.

On the Path to Wound Healing

EASY TO USE

  1. Clean the wound and the skin around with a wound cleanser and pat dry.

  2. Apply the dressing directly on the wound. Either side can be placed on the wound.

  3. If to be used on a dry wound or a wound with low exudate, first moisten the dressing with saline solution and wring it out prior to its application.

  4. Cover the wound and 1 inch of normal skin beyond the wound area.

  5. Secure with a secondary dressing, such as island dressing, gauze pad and rolls secured with tape, self adhesive bandages, or other adhesive dressings.

  6. This dressing can be used in cavities of high stage wounds.

  7. To remove: first gently remove the secondary dressing, and then gently remove this dressing. If the dressing appears to be dry, thoroughly moisten it with saline prior to removal.

  8. The frequency of the dressing change may vary depending on the wound’s drainage.

  9. On rare occasions, the dressing may disintegrate in the wound. Please note that the material of the dressing is biocompatible and is of no concern for the body or the wound. If such a thing is noticed during the wound dressing change, simply use the wound cleanser to wash out the remnants of the dressing as much as possible. Do not use any sharp or blunt tools to forcibly remove the remnants.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Either surface can be placed on the wound [any stock photo image/icon to s show that either side cab be placed on the wound]
  • Dressing may be trimmed or folded to best fit the wound.
  • On rare occasions, the dressing may disintegrate in the wound. The material is biocompatible and is of no concern for the body or wound.

IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

  • Do not use it on patients with known sensitivity to silver or alginates.
  • Not intended for use on third-degree burns.
  • Alginate dressings are highly permeable and nonocclusive. A secondary wound dressing is required to secure the dressing.
  • For external use only.
  • Frequent or prolonged use of this product may result in a permanent discoloration of skin.
  • This product is for single use only. Do not reuse or resterilize.
  • Do not use it if the pouch (the envelope containing the dressing) is damaged or open.

WOUND AND INFECTION

Wound: A wound is when there is an interruption in the integrity of the skin. The damage may vary in depth, ranging from the loss of the most superficial skin layer all the way to the total loss of skin layers or even tissues under the skin. As a consequence of this disintegration, bacteria and fungi find a path toward deeper tissues, resulting in an infection. Infection is one of the major risks that wounds may impose on the body. Biofilm is a more superficial but well structures multiplication of bacterial over the wounds. Irrigation can not remove biofilm.

Biofilm: Biofilm is formed when bacteria are transformed and lay down a foundation over the wound, facilitating their adherence to the wound surface.

AREZA MEDICAL Antibacterial Alginate with Silver - WOUND AND
INFECTION

Wound infection and biofilm can each significantly slow down, or even stop, the wound healing process.

Challenges in management of wound infection and biofilm:
For certain wound infections, therapy with antibacterial dressings may not suffice and thus other measures, such as the following, may be necessary to control the wound infection:

  • Debridement: Surgical or other mechanical method
  • Systemic antibiotics: oral or intravenous
  • Topical antibiotics: preparations preferably based on wound culture report

If you are suffering from an infected wound, or suspect biofilm in a stagnant wound, it is highly recommended to seek medical opinion from a healthcare provider or a wound care specialist.

SILVER AS AN ANTIBACTERIAL

Through various mechanisms, the released silver reliably kills more than 99% of bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses commonly infecting wounds. This method is successfully used to treat superficial wound infections as well as prevention of biofilm formation.

Bacteria tested for efficacy of AREZA
Antibacterial Alginate with Silver include
Staphylococcus aureus
Enterococcus faecalis
Streptococcus pyogenes
Escherichia coli
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Klebsiella pneumoniae]

Silver in all forms, particle, elemental, metallic, nanoparticle, and ionic (Ag+), can successfully kill bacteria, fungi, and certain viruses.
