When using electric gardening appliances, basic safety precautions should
always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury
to persons including the following
Read All Instruction
WARNING Risk of electric shock!
- When servicing use only identical replacement parts.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, use only with an extension cord intended for outdoor use, such as an extension cord of cord type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, or SHOW-A.
- The double insulated system is intended to protect the user from electric shock resulting from a break in the internal insulation of the appliance. Observe all normal safety precautions to avoid electric shock.
- To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not expose to water or operate on wet ground.
- Replace damaged cord immediately.
WARNING Risk of injury!
-
Keep guards in place and in working order.
-
Keep blades sharp.
-
Keep hands and feet away from cutting area.
-
Keep both hands on the handles when the blade is rotating.
-
Only accessories and attachments determined by manufacturer are acceptable for use with the appliance. Usage of any other accessory or attachment may increase the risk of injury!
-
Avoid Dangerous Environment – Don’t use appliances in damp or wet locations.
-
Don’t Use In Rain.
-
Keep Children Away – All visitors should be kept at a distance from work area.
-
Dress Properly – Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They can be caught in moving parts. Use of rubber gloves and substantial footwear is recommended when working outdoors. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
-
Use Safety Glasses – Always use face or dust mask if operation is dusty. t Use Right Appliance – Do not use appliance for any job except that for
which it is intended. -
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for the gardening appliance. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of safety.
-
Avoid Unintentional Starting – Don’t carry plugged-in appliance with finger on switch. Be sure switch is off when plugging in.
-
Don’t Abuse Cord – Never carry appliance by cord or yank it to disconnect from receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
-
Don’t Force Appliance. It will do the job better and with less likelihood of a risk of injury at the rate for which it was designed.
-
Don’t Overreach – Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
-
Stay Alert – Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do not operate appliance when you are tired.
-
Disconnect Appliance – Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when not in use, before servicing, when changing accessories such as blades, and the like.
-
Store Idle Appliances Indoors – When not in use, appliances should be stored indoors in dry, and high or locked-up place – out of reach of children.
-
Maintain Appliance With Care – Keep cutting edge sharp and clean for best performance and to reduce the risk of injury. Follow instructions for changing accessories. Inspect appliance cord periodically, and if damaged, have it repaired by an authorized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace if damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.
-
Check Damaged Parts – Before further use of the appliance, a guard or other part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and any other condition that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service center unless indicated elsewhere in this manual. If the appliance strikes any foreign object
- Stop the appliance and disconnect it from the power supply;
- Inspect parts for damage, especially the blade;
- Have the damaged part properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service facility before using the appliance.
-
Do not stand on the right side of the appliance or have any part of your body in line with the path of the blade.
Safety instructions for extension cords
- Extension Cord – Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The AWG size table shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage number, the heavier the cord.
Amp rating Total length of extension cord in feet (meters)
| 25′| 50′| 100′| 150′
---|---|---|---|---
(7.6 m)| (15 m)| (30.4 m)| (45.7 m)
0| 6| 18| 16| 16| 14
6| 10| 18| 16| 14| 12
10| 12| 16| 16| 14| 12
12| 16| 14| 12| Not recommended
- To reduce the risk of disconnection of appliance cord from the extension cord during operating
- Make a knot as shown in Fig. 1; or
- Use one of the plug-receptacle retaining straps or connectors described in this manual.
- When working outdoors with the appliance, use an extension cord that is designed for outdoor use. This type of cord is designated with “W-N’ or “W” on the jacket of the cord.
- Check extension cords before each use. If damaged, replace immediately. Inspect the appliance cord periodically, and if damaged, have it repaired by an authorized service facility. Never use the appliance with a damaged extension cord since touching the damaged area could cause electrical shock resulting in serious injury.
- Make sure the extension cord is properly wired and not modified.
- Keep the extension cord clear of the working area. Position the extension cord that it will not come close to the blade while the user is working with the appliance. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury.
- The extension cord must have a polarized plug.
- If a series of extension cords will be connected, make sure all are for the same ampere rating, capable to handle 12 A or more.
- The appliance requires a lot of power and should not be operated simultaneously with other tools or utilities on the same household circuit.
Residual risks
Even if you are operating this appliance in accordance with all the safety
requirements, potential risks of injury and damage remain. The following
dangers can arise in connection with the structure and design of this
appliance
- Risk of injury and property damage caused by broken attachments or the sudden impact of hidden objects.
- Risk of cuts from the appliance’s blade.
- Risk of getting entangled by the appliance’s motor.
- Risk of inhaling small dust and particles into the lungs.
Polarized appliance connections
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug
(one blade is wider than the other) and will require the use of a polarized
extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polarized extension cord
only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse
the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension
cord. A polarized extension cord will require the use of a polarized wall
outlet. This plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug
still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall
outlet. Do not change the equipment plug, extension cord receptacle, or
extension cord plug in any way.
