Safety

For safety reasons, and to ensure you achieve the best performance possible, please carefully read this safety instruction before setting up the loudspeakers.

Unpacking, Installing and Placing the Loudspeakers

  • When unpacking the loudspeakers, do not use any protective bag to lift or move them to prevent injury or damage in case it tears. Recommend to keep the original packaging for future use.
  • Some Revival Audio speakers and stands are equipped with spikes. The spikes can be very sharp – take care to avoid personal injury or damage to sensitive surfaces.
  • Only use stands recommended by Revival Audio. Loudspeakers mounted on floor stands should always be restrained on the stand top-plate by screws, rubber pads or similar adhesive materials.
  • When using a trolley or cart, pay particular attention while moving the equipment to prevent any risk of damage or injury.
  • Keep the loudspeakers away from sources of heat, such as radiators, stoves, heat registers or any other devices which give off heat (including amplifiers).
  • Do not use the loudspeakers around water or outside.
  • The device must not be mounted to a wall or ceiling.

Using, Maintaining and Repairing the Loudspeakers

  • The loudspeakers must always be connected to a suitable amplifier and never to a mains supply. Make sure the amplifier is switched off before making any connection to avoid any risk of damage.

  • Do not use accessories not recommended by Revival Audio to avoid risks of damage or injury.

  • Never insert an object into the ports of the loudspeakers, which may come into contact with high-voltage components or cause a short circuit which may lead to fire or electric shock. The only item to be used in the ports is the provided foam plugs to tune the bass response.

  • Never get liquid on the loudspeakers.

  • Only clean the loudspeakers with a dry cloth.

  • Avoid excessively warm, cold, or humid locations; direct sunlight or excessive artificial light can affect the colour of the natural wood veneers used on speaker cabinets.

  • Avoid listening to speakers at high volumes for long periods.
Exposure to excessive volumes (over 85dB) for more than one hour can cause irreparable damage to your hearing.
    (IEC 60417-6044)

  • Never try to open and repair the loudspeakers yourself without proper instructions from Revival Audio. When it’s necessary to repair, make sure to contact Revival Audio first; you will be provided with sufficient information and guided through the process.

Unpack and Setup

Carefully open the packaging box and take out the speakers while leaving them in the protective felt cover. Put the speaker on a flat, stable surface and remove the cover. Place the speakers to their intended position, and optionally attach the included cloth frame to protect the drivers.
Please avoid wearing watches, rings etc. which could possibly scratch the speakers and the finishes when unpacking; Keep the speakers from any metal parts on the clothes, such as zips, buttons, belt clasps, etc.

Compact Speakers
For optimum performance, compact speakers should be placed on a dedicated stand. If using an optional dedicated Revival Audio stand, the speakers should be securely mounted to the stand using the included fasteners. Please visit our website for more information on which stand will fit your speakers.

The speakers can also be placed on a shelf or a cabinet, in which case we recommend that you attach the included rubber pads to protect both the shelf/cabinet and the speaker itself from scratches.

Floor-Standing Speakers
Depending on the type of floor, the speakers can be placed with or without using the included spikes (if applicable). Use spikes for carpeted concrete floors only.
For wooden floors please place the spikes onto protective spike pads (if applicable). Take care not to damage the floor when mounting a speaker with spikes onto the spike pads.

Positioning

Correct positioning will ensure that you get the best performance out of the speakers. In this section, we provide some general positioning suggestions, however, please note that there is no specific rule. Trust your ears and experiment with what is the best for the sound image, which should be stable in the middle, with depth.
Before going into detail, please always remember that your head is the focal point of your speakers but not your seat. Secondly, remember that speakers sound best when they are at your ears level.

General Placement of Stereo Systems
In major scenarios, the distance apart from the stereo speakers is recommended between 2.5 m and 3 m (8 ft and 10 ft). When the speakers are too close, the image will lack scale; on the contrary, the image might lose central focus.

The distance between the two speakers should be similar to or slightly less than the distance from the speakers to the listening area.

Placement of Stereo Systems with Offset Drivers Layout
For certain Revival Audio products, the layout of drivers is offset (not centered). Following our recommended distance above, we suggest placing the two speakers with their drivers at the offset position, to maximize the distance for a wider image.
In some scenarios, the speakers will be placed apart more than 3 metres; in such cases, we recommend an inverted positioning.

Placement of Stereo Systems with Inward Angle
Depending on the acoustic setup of your listening area, it might improve the sound image central focus when the speakers are inward angled. However, again there is no rule on how many degrees should be angled. Try and get the best stereo image which should be stable in the middle, with depth.

Placement of Stereo Systems using Port Plugs
Every listening environment is different, but there is one thing in general, you should be aware of when you place the speakers – position them as far as possible from any solid boundaries. We would suggest a minimum distance of 50 cm (18 in) between each speaker and any wall.

In some cases, the speakers have to be placed close to the boundaries, then the port plugs can help reduce the bass emphasis. Simply insert the port plug so that the port is blocked.

Connections

To prevent damage, please always switch off the amplifier when connecting or disconnecting the speakers.
First, connect a two-pole speaker cable to the speakers. The posts on the speakers will accommodate either spade connectors, 4mm banana plugs, or bare wire. Make sure that none of the individual leads is touching each other, especially when using bare wire.

Next, connect the speaker cable to the amplifier, while taking care that the red marking on the speaker is connected to the same wire as the red marking on the amplifier, and the white/black marking on the speaker is similarly connected to the same wire as the white/black marking on the amplifier.

Note: All Revival Audio speakers use single-wire terminals, as this provides the simplest and highest performance connection. While some speakers use bi-wire, this will only introduce potential for errors while not providing any actual performance benefit.

Use and Maintenance

Breaking in
Please note that in a new pair of speakers the suspension takes a little time to “settle”. The speakers will need several weeks of playback before reaching their optimum potential and can sound a little harsh at first. While the sound may soften up over time, this does not actually require any special handling – feel free to start enjoying music from the get-go!

Power handling
Please note that the power handling of any loudspeaker, including those from Revival Audio, provides a guideline and not a guarantee that the speaker will not be damaged by a given amplifier.
While Revival Audio speakers have been designed with high power handling in mind, any speaker can be damaged if improperly used: If you notice the sound becoming distorted, you are exceeding the limits of either your amplifier or your speakers, and you should turn the volume down until there is no audible distortion.

Maintenance Overview
Generally, Revival Audio speakers do not need any special maintenance to provide you with musical enjoyment for many years. That being said, there are a few things you can do to keep the cosmetics up to their original condition. Mainly, avoiding direct sunlight or cigarette smoke will protect the veneer and the drivers from fading visually over time. Other than this, we have a few tips:

Maintaining tweeter/midrange domes
All Revival Audio speakers use coated soft-dome tweeters, and some models include a coated soft-dome midrange as well. Please note that these domes are maintenance-free, and should not be touched. Brushing or dusting off the domes may cause damage to the coating, which will decrease performance. Any dust that may settle on the domes will not affect acoustic performance.
If the dust is too visible and you want to reduce it, use a slightly humid microfibre cloth and wipe away the dust with extreme care, do not push in the domes.

Maintaining woofers
The Basalt woofer cones may be brushed with a dry cloth, to remove dust. Please take care not to push too hard on the dust cap in the middle of the cone, as this may be damaged by improper handling.

Maintaining cabinets
Revival Audio speakers come in a variety of finishes. For most finishes, we recommend simply dusting off the cabinet with a dry cloth. For any sticky stains, you may want to use a damp cloth and gently polish away the stain, before drying ff with a separate, dry cloth. Please visit our website for more information on the maintenance of your specific finish model.
