Introduction
It is essential for avoiding noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Affordable, reusable, full-block EP5 Sonic Defenders Max earplugs seal the ear canal and block out potentially hazardous noises using a soft, adjustable, triple- flanged stem, resulting in an exceptional Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 26 dB. They are a great option for industrial, tactical, and general applications where optimum noise protection takes precedence above hearing background noise.
Protection Against Two Types of Noise
Full-block EP5 Sonic Defenders Max provide protection against two types of noise: continuous noise (example: loud roar of an engine) and impulse noise (example: gunshot).

WARNING
Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating
noise. Follow instructions for proper fit. Failure to follow instructions
could result in hearing loss and/or injury. EP5 Sonic Defenders Max fit most
people; however, no hearing protection fits everyone. If proper fit cannot be
achieved following instructions, discontinue use.

FITTING & TESTING
- Starting with the EarLock® retention ring oriented slightly backward, rotate the earplug forward while inserting the stem of the right EP5 (marked with an R on the retention ring) into the right ear canal deep enough for the uppermost flange to seal. Fit the retention ring to the natural contour of the concha bowl surrounding the ear canal to lock the earplug in place.
- Repeat process with left earplug (marked with an L on the retention ring) for left ear.
- Test by clapping. If no noticeable decrease in volume, reinsert and retest.
- Slowly twist the earplug when removing to break the stem’s seal.
WARNING
If the instructions above are not adhered to, the protection afforded by EP5
Sonic Defenders Max will be severely impaired.
STEM ADJUSTMENT
EP5 Sonic Defenders® Max feature adjustable stems to maximize fit and comfort. To adjust stem, with earplug removed from ear, pull out or push in stem to lengthen or shorten for comfort.
CONNECTING/DISCONNECTING THE LANYARD
Remove twist tie and uncoil lanyard. Insert lanyard ends into small holes on the outside of EP5 retention rings, located beneath the stem ends, and push in until lanyard ends snap in place. To remove, pull gently on lanyard ends until they disconnect from earplugs.
CLEANING, STORAGE & PRODUCT LIFE
EP5 Sonic Defenders Max typically last up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care. Clean with mild soap and water or alcohol swabs and allow to air dry. If exposed to salt water, rinse with fresh water and allow to air dry. Inspect earplugs regularly and replace when they become stiff and hardened. Store in a cool, dry place in the included container. Do not leave in direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do these come with cord and case?****
They do come with a cord in a round plastic case.
At what decibel level should you wear earplugs?****
Aim to reduce the noise level at the ear to at least 85 dB to ensure the protectors provide adequate protection. aim the use of protectors at the day’s loudest duties and jobs.
What volume should earplugs block in decibels?****
Earplugs or muffs that are properly fitted lower noise by 15 to 30 dB. Although earplugs are better for low frequency noise and earmuffs are better for high frequency noise, the best earplugs and muffs are roughly comparable in terms of sound attenuation.
Are there earplugs that completely silence all noise?****
There are no earplugs that are soundproof. You will still hear louder noises since the skull bone also transmits vibrations to the eardrum. There are several choices if you want earplugs that reduce sound. Filter, foam, and bespoke earplugs are all available.
Can you hear when wearing earplugs?****
Some earplugs are made to reduce volume without distorting the sound of music or speech. Consider whether you can still hear alarms or other warnings while using earplugs or ear defenders before assuming that you require the highest level of ear protection.
What decibel level do earplugs need to be at?****
Currently, earplugs have a noise reduction rating (NRR) of up to 33 decibels. Up to the NRR rating of the earplug, all decibel levels will be completely muffled. Any sound over the NRR of the earplugs may be audible.
Can your ears be harmed by wearing earplugs?****
Earplugs may gradually push earwax back into your ear, leading to a buildup. This may result in a number of issues, such as transient hearing loss and tinnitus. You’ll need to either use ear drops to soften the wax or have it removed by your doctor in order to clear it. Ear infections can also result from earplug use.

Can you use earplugs continuously?****
In general, earplugs are secure. They do, however, have a few potential adverse effects, particularly if you use them frequently. Earplugs may gradually push earwax back into your ear, leading to a buildup. This may result in a number of issues, such as transient hearing loss and tinnitus.
How are ear plug protectors cleaned?****
In between uses, use a clean towel to wipe away dust and debris from the earplugs. Check to see whether the foam tip is damaged, separated from the stem, or not pliable and soft. If the earplug is even slightly broken, overly dirty, or contaminated, replace it (no longer hygienic). When necessary, wash earplugs with warm water and mild soap.
How are earplugs repaired?****
Clean debris and earwax buildup from reusable earplugs by soaking them in a little bowl of hydrogen peroxide. After clearing away any visible surface dirt, give the area a good rinsing with cold water. Dry by gently pressing between two towels, then allow to completely air dry before using.
