2024 Handcart Days Parade Rules & Regulations

Parade participants must comply with all parade rules and instructions from parade officials. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the parade.
The Handcart Days Committee retains the right to change these rules at any time as set forth by the Board of Trustees.

  1. Theme: Entries should be decorated in accordance with the parade theme (Onward and Upward). Entry applications will not be accepted if the Handcart Days Committee determines a parade entry is controversial, unlawful, or inconsistent with the standards, theme, and purpose of the parade. Deviation from the original application after acceptance may result in dismissal from the parade. Examples of unacceptable entries include, but are not limited to, the following: controversial religious matters; gun rights; candidates for public office; subject matters relating to sexuality; or advocacy for public policy initiatives.

  2. Commercial Entries: For the 2024 parade there will be no cars allowed with only banners attached to the side of the car or vehicle advertising a business. There needs to be some effort to decorate the entered vehicle or have something other than a car and a banner as an advertisement. Please discuss this with the parade chairs if you have a question about your entry at parade@handcartdays.org.

  3. Online Application: Entry applications will be accepted from March 15 to approx. May 31, or until up to 100 entries have been received. Applications are received on a first-come, first-serve basis. An entry fee of $150.00 must be included with each commercial entry. Commercial entries are those that advertise a product, service, or business. If an application is not accepted, the entry fee will be returned.

  4. Handouts are permitted along the parade ONLY if they are handed to spectators from the side of the road. Handouts may include candy, promotional items, or flyers. The parade entry must furnish walking individuals to distribute handouts. Walkers must replenish their handouts from the back of a vehicle or trailer. Utah State law prohibits handouts along 400 North as this is a state road. Absolutely No balls or Frisbees may be thrown to spectators. This has caused an issue with injuries in the past and the Bountiful PD has asked that we not allow this.

  5. Water Spraying is not allowed along the parade route. No water pistols, guns, or other such water delivery methods are allowed.

  6. Safety is our priority : Drivers of ANY vehicle must be 21 years old.
All parade participants will conduct themselves and operate their vehicles, floats, trailers, and parade apparatus in a safe manner. Participants shall not get on or off a moving entry. Drivers must remain with the entry. If an entry includes “Walkers”, competent adults must be positioned on both sides of the entry vehicle/trailer near the axles (wheels) to direct others away from the axles keeping them safe.

  7. Entry Size: All entries must be capable of maneuvering around sharp turns and must clear all overhead obstacles. Maximum size requirements are Height = 14 feet, Width = 15 feet, and Length = 65 feet (including truck/trailer combination).

  8. Liability : As a condition of participation, all participants agree that Handcart Days does not assume responsibility for any injury or harm, and agree to indemnify Handcart Days, its officers, volunteers, and agents from all claims, liabilities, damages/loss, arising directly or indirectly, from participants involvement in the parade.

  9. Dress Code: Parade participants are to dress in keeping with the spirit of the parade. Dress should be modest and not controversial. Swim wear unless part of your float is not appropriate unless discussed and approved by the parade chair prior to the parade day. No bare chests are allowed unless previously discussed with the parade chair.

  10. VIP entries are by invitation only. Cars carrying VIPs shall have signs that conform to Parade Committee guidelines. No political campaigning allowed.

  11. Walking participants must be able to walk 2 miles in temperatures over 90 degrees. (Although the parade will be in the morning, which we hope will help with high temperatures) Walking children groups ages 11 and younger must have 1 adult per 8 youth participants.

  12. Vehicles Not Permitted: No motorcycles, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, nor in-line skates are permitted unless requested on the Parade Application and approved by the Parade Committee.

  13. Music: Broadcasted music is permitted but must be noted on the application and approved by the Parade Committee.

  14. Printed Material : The name of a sponsor attached to an entry must be in a form and size acceptable to the Parade Committee. No other printed material except entry theme, parade number, and name of sponsor may be attached to a parade entry.

  15. Inspection: All entries are to be made available to Handcart Days representatives for inspection as deemed necessary. Inspections will be at a reasonable time.

  16. Water: All entries are to provide drinking water for their participants.

I, the undersigned, have read, understand, and agree to follow the rules and regulations outlined herein. I further understand that failure to follow these rules and regulations will result in my dismissal from the Handcart Days parade and the forfeiture of my entry fee.
