Introduction

Nous is a modular artificial intelligence educational robot that can provide artificial intelligence education solutions for primary and secondary schools. It supports a variety of artificial intelligence technologies and functions, including machine learning, neural networks, machine vision, speech recognition, Matata Chat, AIGC, and autonomous driving capabilities. Besides, it also supports data collection, Al model training and deployment, as well as graphical programming and Python programming. The robot is designed with a metal structure that is also compatible with building block structures and features an expandable electronic module system. It is suitable for scenarios such as artificial intelligence education, programming education (graphical programming and Python programming), robot teaching, creative assembly, electronic project creation, and robotics competition.

Interface description

  • Micro USB interface (USB-C)
    Through the Micro USB interface, the Nous Hub can connect to various computer devices, obtain power and communicate with the computer devices.
    When charging the Nous Hub, make sure the voltage is below 6V.

  • Micro HDMI interface (camera)
    The Nous camera module does not support automatic communication recovery. If the camera module is disconnected from the Nous Hub during use, it may cause the Nous Hub program to run abnormally. Therefore, it is recommended to plug and unplug the camera module when the Nous Hub is shutdown.

  • USB-C electronic module expansion interface (not limited to servo module)
    Nous Hub can intelligently identify the ID address information of electronic modules. When Nous Hub is connected to multiple servos (the other electronic modules are the same). you only need to modify the ID address of the servo during programming, without specifying the interface to which the servo is connected. As shown in the figure below, specify the ID address bit of the first servo connected to Nous Hub as 01, the second as 02, and so on.

Shut down: After pressing the power button for 3 seconds, a prompt box will pop up on the screen and you need to confirm that you want to shut down. Click OK to shutdown the Nous Hub system.

*If you cannot turn it on, please charge the Nous Hub first.

*If the Nous Hub fails to enter the system interface normally after powering on, please restart through the pinhole restarts button on the side.

Connect and download the program

  1. Log in to the web programming platform: https://nous.matatastudio.com

  2. Select the USB data cable (USB-C) or Bluetooth connection method to connect the Nous Hub to your device.

  3. When the USB-C expansion interface of the Nous Hub is connected to the servo module, you can view and modify the servo’s ID address in the device management.

    *Note: The factory default ID addresses of the two servos configured by Nous have been set to1&2.

  4. Create your own program
    Use building blocks to create your own program code.

  5. Download the program to your Nous Hub
    Click the download program icon to download the created program to the Nous Hub. At this time, you can see the program you just created in the Nous Hub operation interface. Click to run

  6. Quickly switch program & delete program

    • Nous supports storing multiple programs. When you want to switch from the currently running program to another program, you can long press the Home button to exit and select the corresponding program;
    • when you want to delete a personally created program, you can long press the corresponding program icon, and the system will prompt you to confirm whether you want to delete it. Just select to confirm the deletion.

Experience case program

nous.matatastudio.com provides a large number of activity cases for you to learn and use. The sample programs can be accessed through the “Tutorials” menu in the upper right corner of the platform toolbar.
Quick start

Choose an activity case that interests you and study according to the guidelines. You can also directly load and view the sample program of this activity case, execute it on line or download the program to the Nous Hub.

Structural characteristics of Nous

Each module of Nous has a special appearance design on the shell, such as threaded holes and latch holes. With the support of the unique metal structural parts system, it can achieve rich structural expansion.

Firmware upgrade

  1. Log in to nous.matatastudio.com and connect Nous Hub to MatataCode. Select Toolbox-Firmware Upgrade to check if Nous Hub has latest version firmware. If not, download latest version firmware.

  2. Enter the Nous Hub system operation interface, select Settings-Firmware Upgrade, enter upgrade mode.

  3. After connecting Nous Hub to my computer via USB-C cable, ‘NOUS_BOOT’ disk appears. Drag the latest version downloaded firmware into disk, and Nous Hub will automatically update firmware and restart.

  4. During upgrade process, don’t interrupt connection between Nous Hub and computer device. If fails, log in to Help Center at nous.matatastudio.com for detailed guidance.

Precautions

This product is not suitable for children under 3 years old;

  • The adapter used to charge this product (not included in the package) cannot be used as a toy;
  • The product can only be connected to one power adapter;
  • If you need to clean the surface of this product, please use a clean cloth to wipe the surface of the product. If you use a damp cloth to clean, please turn off the product and disconnect it from the external power supply device;
  • Children using this product should be under the supervision of an adult;
  • Try not to place this product on high outer edges to avoid damage from falling;
  • Please do not disassemble, repair or modify this product by yourself to avoid product failure;
  • Do not use or charge this product in an environment that exceeds the operating temperature range of this product;
  • When this product is idle, please fully charge it before storing it. It needs to be charged at least once every 3 months;
  • Please use the recommended adapter (5V/2A adapter) to charge this product;
  • Regularly check whether the wire, plug, shell or other parts are damaged. If damage is found, stop using it until it is repaired.

Warning

There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type. Please dispose of used batteries according to instructions.

Warranty terms

  • Product warranty period is 1 year
  • The following situations are not covered by free warranty:
    a. Unable to present this warranty certificate and valid invoice
    b. This warranty certificate contains traces of alteration or is inconsistent with the product.
    C. Natural consumption/wear and aging of consumable materials
    d. Damage caused by lightning strikes or other electrical system reasons
    e. Damage caused by improper use by users, such as liquid injection/external force damage, etc.
    f. Damage caused by force majeure factors such as accidents/disasters
    g. Products that have been disassembled/modified/repaired by yourself
    h. Damage caused by exceeding the warranty period or not using/maintaining/storing the product in accordance with the product instructions.
