Installation Instructions
ATTENTION INSTALLING PERSONNEL
As a professional installer, you have an obligation to know the product better
than the customer. This includes all safety precautions and related items.
Prior to actual installation, thoroughly familiarize yourself with this
Instruction Manual. Pay special attention to all safety warnings. Often during
installation or repair, it is possible to place yourself in a position which
is more hazardous than when the unit is in operation. Remember, it is your
responsibility to install the product safely and to know it well enough to be
able to instruct a customer in its safe use.
Safety is a matter of common sense…a matter of thinking before acting. Most
dealers have a list of specific good safety practices…follow them.
The precautions listed in this Installation Manual are intended as
supplemental to existing practices. However, if there is a direct conflict
between existing practices and the content of this manual, the precautions
listed here take precedence.
WARNING
Only personnel that have been trained to install, adjust, service, maintenance or repair (hereinafter, “service”) the equipment specified in this manual should service the equipment. The manufacturer will not be responsible for any injury or property damage arising from improper service or service procedures. If you service this unit, you assume responsibility for any injury or property damage which may result. In addition, in jurisdictions that require one or more licenses to service the equipment specified in this manual, only licensed personnel should service the equipment. Improper installation, adjustment, servicing, maintenance or repair of the equipment specified in this manual, or attempting to install, adjust, service or repair the equipment specified in this manual without proper training may result in product damage, property damage, personal injury or death.
WARNING
Do not bypass safety devices.
WARNING
HIGH VOLTAGE!
Disconnect ALL power before servicing or installing this unit. Multiple power
sources may be present. Failure to do so may cause property damage, personal
injury or death.
CAUTION
To avoid possible personal injury, use extreme caution if using power tools to
remove the small breaker mounting brackets. The brackets may quickly rotate
and cause injury.
INTRODUCTION
The OTDFPKG accessory utilizes a single pole double throw thermostat to
determine the temperature at which the unit will switch from mechanical heat
using the heat pump to gas heat using the gas furnace when the outdoor
temperature is below a user adjustable setpoint (0°F-45°F).
The Thermostat CAM (See Figure 4) can be used to adjust the setpoint,
counterclockwise for WARM setting or clockwise for COLD setting.

INSTRUCTIONS
- Inspect all parts from the kit and compare them to Table 1 to ensure all needed parts are available before proceeding. Kit # OTDFPKG-01 (dark gray) should be installed on Amana and Goodman brands, while OTDFPKG-02 (nickel gray) should be installed on the Daikin brand.
- Remove the blower door in order to access the thermostat plug on the inside of the unit.
- Remove the knockout from the duct panel located next to the blower door (See Figure 1). There will be insulation behind the knockout on the inside of the unit. Cut an “X” into the insulation as shown in Figure 1.
- Locate the webbed grommet placed inside the ziplock bag and snap it into the resulting hole in the duct panel.
- Remove the door from the housing assembly. Place the plug of the thermostat through the grommet and through the hole cut into the insulation into the inside of the unit.
- Using the cutting screws shipped with the kit, mount the housing to the duct panel using the locating dimples on the panels. When mounted, the large hole in the top left-hand corner of the housing should surround the webbed grommet and the housing should be flush against the duct panel.
- Locate the outdoor thermostat harness inside the blower compartment. Remove the jumper plug and connect the plug from the thermostat to the plug inside the blower compartment. Place the jumper plug with the literature of the unit and keep in case servicing is needed later.
- The large hole at the top left-hand corner of the housing should surround the webbed grommet in the low voltage hole.
- Fasten the kit to the corner panel through the holes shown in Figure 2 using the self-drilling screws provided in the zip-lock bag.
- The kit should be fastened in such a way that the control box cover can be removed without interference or obstruction from the kit.
- Set the outdoor thermostat to the desired level using a flat head screwdriver as shown in Figure 4. The setting will determine the temperature at which the unit will switch from mechanical heat with heat pump to gas heat using the gas furnace. In most cases, it is recommended that the setting be in the range of 35°F – 40°F depending on the cost of local utilities.
- If need be, the low voltage field wires can be run through the hole on the side of the thermostat kit as shown in Figure 2.
- Once the thermostat is set, replace the door to the housing and the blower compartment.
- Snap in the plastic plug into the hole on the side of the kit.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the housing is in a location where it will be in direct sunlight, the temperature inside the housing could be 5°F – 10°F higher than the ambient outside the box. Kindly take this into consideration when setting the thermostat in these applications.
