Description of the device

The KeContact R10 is a cable reel to store the charging cable of a domestic and semipublic charging station infrastructure. In summary, the reel is an assembled tool with different part, like a drum to coiled the charging cable with the EV connector, it has a spring load for automatic rewind of the cable. It has a brake to reduce the speed of rewinding. The cable can be stopped approximately every 50 cm from a lock function installed on the drum.

Information

  • The KeContact R10 is designed for high amperes current transmission until 32 A in 1 Phase configuration and 16 A in 3 Phase configuration.
  • The configuration cannot be switchable.

In this chapter is described the KeContact R10 installation.

General instructions

Caution

If the mounting surface is not fl at the cable reel can be damaged. Hence avoid twisted or damaged mounting surfaces.
The anchoring system chosen by the installer must take into account the material from which the reel will be hung (4 standard dowels included with the reel).

Space requirement

KeContact-R10-CM-Cable-Manager-fig-5

  • KeContact R10 dimensions are H 326 x W 326 x D 260 mm, we reccomend to provide 200 mm of free space on each side to ensure the appropriate air flow.
  • KeContact R10 can tilt 20 degrees forward, provide sufficient handling space.

Mounting of cable reel

  • For a correct installation of the KeContact R10 need n°4 x anchor bolt with washer are recommended. Print the last 2 pages of this document for drilling templates

KeContact-R10-CM-Cable-Manager-fig-7

  • The KeContact R10 should only be mounted vertically with the cable output facing down.
  • Recommend installation at a height of 170 cm above the ground or between 90 cm and 110 cm for wheelchair users.

Installation site recommendations

KeContact R10 is IP44 protection class and can be installed indoors or outdoors with proper weather protection.

The following criteria should be considered when choosing the location:

  • The device can only be installed for stationary applications.
  • Mount the device so that charging cables do not cover or cross pedestrian and motorized traffic.
  • Do not install the device at locations where it is exposed to ammonia or ammonia gas.
  • The mounting surface must be sufficiently stable in order to withstand the mechanical forces.
  • Do not install the charging station at locations where falling objects could damage the device.
  • The device should be protected against direct rain as far as possible to prevent icing, hail damage or similar.
  • If possible, the device should be mounted out of direct sunlight; if overheated, the device may go into protection and the thermal fuse could be triggered, interrupting charging. (see chapter 7.3).

KeContact-R10-CM-Cable-Manager-fig-8

In order to guarantee IP44 protection also for the connections, after charging, it is recommended that the car-side connector be plugged into the supplied wall bracket and that the wall box-side connector be kept plugged into its housing.

Connection and wiring

Connection to E Vehicles

KeContact-R10-CM-Cable-Manager-fig-9

  • The KeContact R10 car side is ready to use, it is only necessary connect the plug in the car.

Connection to E.V. Charging Station

  • The connection to the charging station may vary depending on the model of charging station, the KeContact R10 can come in different configurations, please make sure the type matches before connecting the connector.
  • To operate the KeContact R10, simply plug in the connector.

Operation and handling

  • When starting up for the first time, please reset the resettable thermostat as described in Chapter 7.3

Protection during the operation

  • During recharging it is recommended to completely extract the cable from the
  • KeContact R10 to get the maximum performance from your wallbox (Max 16A – 11kW).
  • Even when connected the cable can be pulled out of the KeContact R10 the cable reel can be rotated by 20 degree to facilitate cable pulling out.
  • The device is equipped with a lock function. Approximately every 50 cm the lock function is active (clicking noise) so the cable cannot roll up automatically and thereby is not in tension.

Caution

  • When using the cable that is not fully unrolled, it is recommended to reduce the charging power to less than or equal to 12A to avoid possible overheating
  • Do not jerky the cable because the KeContact R10 can be damaged.
  • Briefly pulling on the cable releases the locking. A cable brake integrated in the KeContact R10 serves to roll up the cable gently and to not snatch the connector out of the user’s hands when releasing the locking function unintentionally.

Warning Sticker

  • In order to clearly show potential hazard, a yellow warning sticker recommend to not remove any part from the reel.
  • One sticker is installed on brake and warn to not remove it.

Resettable thermostat

KeContact-R10-CM-Cable-Manager-fig-12

  • In according to EN 61316 the KeContact R10 is provided by a thermal cut-out, in case of overheating this disconnect the line during the charge.
  • If it happens switch off the current and press the red button to reset to the normal operation.

Termal fuse

  • A non-resettable termal fuse is soldered on the mainboard, it only intervenes in cases of severe overheating and can be replaced only by authorized personnel.

Maintenance

The following maintenance intervals must be adhered to:

Component / Interval

  • Whole cable reel: Approx. 1 Year *)
  • Cable: Approx. 1 Year *)
  • Cable brake: Approx. 1 Year *)
  • Locking function: Approx. 1 Year *)

*) The exact maintenance interval depends on the operation environment.
The cable reel, the cable and the components must be cleaned according to necessity.

Inspection of the whole cable reel

Caution

Requirements at the inspection:

  • All supply voltages must be disconnected or switched off (Charging Station).
  • Unplug the KeContact R10 fromt the car.

The following steps are necessary at the inspection of the cable reel:

  • Check the mounting screws of the cable reel.
  • Check the freedom to rotate on the bracket of the cable reel.
  • Check the enclosure for damages and for foreign bodies or liquids inside.
  • Check the connections.
  • Check the cable for damages.
  • Check the locking function via pulling out the cable at least 2 m.
  • Repeat these 4 times.
  • Check the sealing of all screws of the enclosure.

The removal of the sealing results in the loss of warranty

  • If damages or faults of the KeContact R10 are determined please send the cable reel with a precise error description to your dealer for inspection.

Cleaning the cable reel

  • Caution. Never clean the reel with solvents, scouring agents or scrubbing sponges. Use a soft cloth and a bit of water or a mild cleaning agent.
  • Avoid foreign bodies or liquids get inside the cable reel. Check the protection covers, the totality of the screws of the enclosure as well as damages at the enclosure and the cable exit periodically and in particular after strong shocks (e.g. Fall).

To clean the inside of the KeContact R10 a vacuum cleaner or compressed air can be used.

CAUTION

  • When cleaning the inside with compressed air safety glasses must be worn!

Repair / Replacing the brake

The KeContact R10 has a brake (Part number: RC 3-0090-00-227).
The brake limits the rolling speed when retracting the cable. The brake loses power gradually over time and should be replaced.
Use this procedure to replace the brake on the KeContact R10, tool required phillips- head screwdriver, screw included in the spare part. Max Torque 0,05Nm.

  • Disconnect and disassemble the device from the wall mount.
    • (not necessary but recommended)
  • Place it on a flat surface with the back facing upwards.
