How to Look After Your Flute
STEP 1: SEPARATE THE JOINTS
You’ll need to clean your flute after every practice using a cleaning rod and cloth. Separate the instrument joints ready for cleaning.
STEP 2: USE A CLEANING ROD AND CLOTH
You will need to feed the corner of the cloth through the hole in the rod. Fold over the cloth, so it is covering the rod fully.
Push the cloth into the open end of the headcount and twist to ensure all the moisture is removed. You can also put the end of the rod with its cloth into the hole in the lip plate to remove any additional moisture.
STEP 3: REPEAT
Repeat the cleaning action on the middle joint and foot joint.
You can push the rod with its cloth all the way through and out the other side of the middle joint. Ensure you are careful with the keys, as these are very delicate.
When not playing, keep the flute in its case. lf your flute is exposed to too much sunlight, it may tarnish. Never place your flute/case near a heater or leave out in extreme temperature conditions, as this will cause damage to the instrument.
