CAUTION

  • Do not store batteries at low SOC. Charge batteries in time by referring to section “Power on and Commissioning > Recharge Requirements for Batteries with Low SOC” in the user manual. Otherwise, batteries may be damaged due to overdischarge
  • Before installing and commissioning batteries, prepare fire fighting facilities, such as fire sand and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, according to construction standards and regulations. Before putting the battery room into operation, ensure that it is equipped with a fire extinguishing system that complies with local laws and regulations, has been constructed and commissioned, and can work in automatic or manual control mode.

Fire Extinguisher Cylinder

Installation Clearances

NOTE: Plan the installation clearances based on site reauirements.

Installing a Fire Extinguisher Cylinder

  1. Remove the rear cover from the cabinet.
  2. Observe the pressure gauge on the cylinder.
    • If the pointer reading is 0 MPa, the cylinder is empty. Fill extinguishant onsite. For details, see “Installation and Cable Connection > Installing a Fire Extinguisher Cylinder and Cabinets (Without a Side Cabinet)” in the user manual.
    • If the pointer reading is greater than 1.1 MPa, the cylinder is filled with extinguishant. In this case, go to the next step.
  3. Remove the valve positioning kit, slowly open the valve, reinstall the positioning kit, and secure it.HUAWEI-SmartLi-512V-80AH-F-01-SmartLi-Lithium-Batterie-fig-4
    • NOTICE: Slowly open the valve. To avoid unexpected blowout, do not quickly open the valve.
    • The end pressure gauge of the cabinet is used to determine whether the pressure of the fire extinguisher cylinder decreases during routine O&M inspection.
  4. Observe the end pressure gauge on the front of the cabinet and record the position of the pressure gauge pointer. 8 hours later, observe the pressure gauge again. The position should remain unchanged. If the pressure decreases, leakage occurs. In this case, contact technical support.
  5. Reinstall the rear cover for the cabinet.

Installing Cabinets

  1. Determine the position for installing the cabinet. Mark mounting holes based on the marking-off template or drawing.
    • NOTE: Plan the installation position based on site requirements.
  2. Use a hammer drill to drill holes for installing expansion bolts and then install expansion bolts in the holes.HUAWEI-SmartLi-512V-80AH-F-01-SmartLi-Lithium-Batterie-fig-6
    • Notice: Knock the expansion bolt into the hole until the expansion sleeve completely fits into the hole. The expansion sleeve must be completely buried under the ground to facilitate subsequent installation.

  4. Insert expansion bolts into the expansion bolt holes in the floor, and tighten the expansion bolts.

  • Wheel the cabinet to the installation position.
  • Adjust the anchor bolts until the castors hang in the air and the anchor bolts bear all of the cabinet weight. Check the cabinet levelness using a level instrument.

Combining Cabinets

  • Install the cabinets one by one.
  • Install connecting plates between cabinets.

Note: If the cabinet is installed against a wall, install only the front connecting plates.

  1. Remove the cover from the PDU.
  2. Remove the top cover from the cabinet based on cable routes and dimensions.

    • Note: The neutral wire needs to be configured for UPS models with N wires.
  4. Set the battery circuit breaker I1.
    • If the load of a single battery cabinet is less than or equal to 150 kW, you are advised to set the I1 of the battery circuit breaker to MIN and use cables with a cross sectional area of 120 mm 2
    • If the load of a single battery cabinet is greater than 150 kW, you are advised to use cables with a cross sectional area of 150 mm 2

  • The following figure shows how to connect a communications cable between the SmartLi and the integrated UPS (COM: 6 pins).
  • Communications cables between the SmartLi and other UPS models (COM: 8 pins) are connected using standard network cables.
  • If more than eight SmartLi cabinets are connected in parallel, a maximum of four 15 m parallel communications cables are supported.

  • For W1 and W2, use any set of twisted pair cables and remove any excess wires. The same goes for W3 and W4. Other redundant core wires are cut off.
  • The cable colors in the figure are for reference only. The actual cable colors may vary.

Installing Battery Modules

  1. Clean the cabinet and ensure that there is no foreign matter, dust, or scraps in the cabinet.
  2. Pull out the BCU for about 10 cm.

  4. Remove the front cover of the battery module, install the battery baffle plate, and tighten the two screws. Check the insulation performance of the battery module. Set a multimeter to the DC voltage mode and measure the voltage between the positive and negative terminals of each battery module and the screws on the battery baffle plate respectively.     • Notice: Place the front covers properly to prevent the light pipes from falling off.

    • Notice: Communications cables for lithium batteries 1, 8, 9, and 16 have been installed before delivery and are reserved near the lithium battery installation slots.

    • Note: In the 7+7, 8+0, and 7+0 scenarios, install filler panels in the vacant slots for battery modules.
  7. Remove the fuse cover.
  8. Install battery copper bars and power cables.
    • Warning: After removing the insulation cap from a power cable, install the cable immediately to prevent the exposed terminal from touching the shell, which may cause sparks or burns.
    • Ensure that unused terminals and cables are properly insulated. If an insulation cap or insulation layer is damaged, repair it promptly.
    • To avoid short circuit, do not insert tools such as screwdriver directly into threaded holes of positive or negative terminals of the battery module.

Notice

  1. When installing a copper bar, connect the part with a round hole to the upper battery module, and connect the part with a slotted hole to the lower battery module. Install the part with a round hole first, and then the part with a slotted hole.
  2. Excessive bolts will be used as spare parts.

  • Open the terminal protective covers, install the negative battery cables reserved in the cabinet, and close the terminal protective covers.
  1. After installing copper bars and cables, check that battery strings are insulated from the cabinet. Set a multimeter to the DC voltage mode and measure the voltage between the uncoated part of the battery cabinet and the positive and negative terminals of each battery string respectively. If the readings are less than 6 V DC, the insulation is good. Otherwise, contact technical support engineers.
  2. After checking that the battery strings are well insulated, reinstall the front covers and fuse cover for the battery modules.
    • Notice: Before reinstalling the covers, check and arrange all cables of the board (the cascading cable must be placed in the notch). Ensure that no cable is squeezed by the covers.
  3. Reinstall the BCU.
  4. Use a marker to mark the corresponding models on the nameplate of the cabinet based on the number of installed battery modules to facilitate future maintenance.

  • The cabinet is securely installed and does not tilt due to vibration.
  • The adjacent cabinets are neatly arranged and secured with connecting kits.
  • Cable ties have no exposed sharp edges.
  • Cables are bound neatly and properly.
  • Both ends of a cable are labeled. Labels are concise and easy to understand.
  • Bolts are tightened to the required torque and marked in red and blue after double check.
  • Battery cables or copper bars are securely connected, the spring washers are leveled properly for cables secured by screws, and the cables are intact.

  • If the pressure gauge pointer at the front door of the cabinet is obviously lower than the initial position, contact technical support.
  • The cabinet is correctly connected to the UPS.
  • Battery cabinets in parallel are correctly connected.
  • The neutral wire is correctly connected.
  • Check whether there is a short circuit between the positive, neutral, and negative cables for circuit breakers, between copper bars, and between the cables, copper bars, and enclosure. If there is a short circuit, check whether the cables are damaged or short circuited. If yes, repair the cables.
  • There is no foreign matter (such as copper wires and screws) on the top of the cabinet.
  • There is no foreign matter on the copper bar terminals.
  • There is no foreign matter around circuit breaker terminals.
  • There is no foreign matter on the bottom plate of the cabinet.
  • There is no foreign matter on the rear module subrack
  • After the BCU is removed, set a multimeter to the DC voltage mode and measure the voltage between the uncoated part of the battery cabinet and the positive and negative terminals of batteries respectively.   • After verifying the installation, reinstall all the covers.
  • The battery cabinet output cables are intact. The insulation resistance of the positive, negative, and neutral output cables to the ground and that between the positive, negative, and neutral output cables are greater than 2 megohms (using a 500 V megohm meter).
  • If the equipment will not be powered on after installation, take dustproof measures (for example, use a dust cover) to prevent dust buildup in the equipment, which may corrode the equipment. Remove the dust cover only when the equipment is ready for operation.
  • After the installation is complete, take anti condensation measures and keep the air conditioner running. Do not store the equipment in an environment where the temperature and humidity are uncontrollable for a long period of time. Otherwise, the equipment may be damaged due to condensation.

Sealing Cabinets

  1. Remove the paper protective film from the sealing putty and keep the transparent film.
  2. Fill the gaps between the cables and the cabinets with the sealing putty. Ensure that the transparent film faces upward.

Power On

  • Start the BCU and press the POWER ON/OFF button on the BCU of the SmartLi for more than 2 seconds.

| Standby state. The SmartLi circuit breaker can be switched on. If the fault indicator is steady red, a BCB off alarm is displayed on the LCD of the SmartLi, and no action is required. The alarm will disappear after the battery circuit breaker is switched on.

  1. On the SmartLi LCD, set related parameters on the Settings Wizards screen.
  2. Observe the status of indicators on the BCU. If the green indicator on the BCU blinks at super short intervals (on for 0.1s and then off for 0.1s) and the red indicator is steady on, switch on the battery circuit breaker. The battery supply is connected.
