Product Usage Instructions

  • Dexcom ONE basics
    • Dexcom ONE is a glucose monitoring system that provides real-time sensor readings to your display device.
  • What do I need?
    • To use Dexcom ONE, you will need:
    • A display device (either a smartphone or Dexcom receiver)
    • An applicator with a sensor and plastic holder
    • A reusable transmitter with a plastic holder
  • How does it work?
    • After setting up your Dexcom ONE, the transmitter sends sensor readings to your display device.
  • Setup Instructions
    • Set up smartphone
    • If you are using a smartphone, follow these steps to set up Dexcom ONE:
    • Set up the Dexcom ONE app:
    • Go to the app store
    • Search for Dexcom ONE
    • Download and open the Dexcom ONE app
    • Follow the onscreen instructions, including turning on alerts
    • Ensure internet access is available during the entire setup process
    • Sensor warmup:
    • After app setup, allow your sensor to warm up for approximately 2 hours. Keep your smartphone within 6 meters of the transmitter. Sensor readings and alerts will not be available until the warmup is complete.
    • Check phone settings:
    • Ensure that your phone settings are properly configured for Dexcom ONE.
    • Turn on alerts (if not done during setup):
    • If you did not turn on alerts during the initial setup, you can do so at any time by accessing the Settings > Alerts menu in the app. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up the desired alerts.
    • Set up receiver
    • If you are using a Dexcom receiver, follow these steps to set up Dexcom ONE:
    • Turn on the receiver:
    • Press and hold the Select button for 3-5 seconds to turn on the receiver.
    • Follow the onscreen instructions, including turning on alerts, to complete the setup process.

    • Q: What display devices are compatible with Dexcom ONE?

    • Q: Can I use Dexcom ONE without turning on alerts?
    • A: Yes, you can use Dexcom ONE without turning on alerts. However, turning on alerts allows you to receive glucose and system alerts after the sensor warmup is complete.

    • A: The sensor warmup process takes approximately 2 hours. During this time, sensor readings and alerts will not be available.

Before you begin

  1. Read Dexcom ONE basics.
  2. Then, go to:
    • Set up a smartphone, if using your phone.
    • Set up the receiver, if using the optional receiver.

What do I need?

  1. A display device to get your glucose information

  2. Sensor applicator with built-in sensor
    • Insert a sensor under your skin that gets your glucose readings.

  3. Reusable transmitter
    • After applying the sensor to your skin, you will snap a grey transmitter into the plastic holder.

How does it work?

After you set up your Dexcom ONE, the transmitter sends sensor readings to your display device.

Critical safety

Critical safety notices!

  • Dexcom ONE alerts
    • No glucose alerts unless you turn them on.
    • Turn on alerts during setup to get glucose and system alerts when sensor warmup is over.
    • Dexcom ONE alerts will NOT override your smartphone settings.
    • You will NOT hear high or low glucose alerts if your phone is set to silent (sound is turned off).
    • You will hear alerts ONLY when your smartphone sound is turned on.
    • Check your smartphone settings or you may miss an alert.
    • Dexcom ONE alerts will NOT override your receiver settings.
    • If your receiver is set to vibrate, you will not hear high or low glucose alerts.
    • Turn on the receiver sound to hear alerts.

Which display device are you using?

  • Smartphone
    • Go to Set up a smartphone, p. 5.
  • Receiver
    • Go to Set up the receiver, p. 8.

Set up smartphone

Smartphone setup only. Go to p. 8 for the receiver.

  • Step 1: Set up the Dexcom ONE app
    Set up your app before inserting your sensor.
1. Go to the app store.

3. Download and open the Dexcom ONE app.
4. With the app open, follow onscreen instructions, including instructions to turn on alerts.
5. Internet access is required during the entire setup. No glucose alerts unless you turn them on.
  * Turn on alerts when prompted to get glucose and system alerts after the sensor warmup is complete.
  *  **During setup, the app will prompt you to:**
    * Enter the transmitter serial number (SN), either manually or by taking a picture. SN is on the back of the transmitter and box.
  * Enter the sensor code from the sensor you insert, either manually or by taking a picture.
  * The sensor code is on the applicator.
  • Step 2: Sensor warmup
    • After setup, your sensor needs time to adjust to your body. This takes about 2 hours. Keep your smartphone within 6 meters of the transmitter.
    • You will NOT get sensor readings or alerts until the sensor warmup is complete.
    • If you did not turn on alerts during setup, turn on alerts now to get alerts when the sensor warmup is complete.
    • Wait 2 Hours: When the sensor warmup is complete, you will get sensor readings.
  • Step 3: Check phone settings
    • Dexcom ONE alerts will NOT override your smartphone settings.
    • You will NOT hear high or low glucose alerts if your phone is set to silent (sound is turned off).
    • You will hear alerts ONLY when your smartphone sound is turned on.
    • Check your smartphone settings or you may miss an alert.
  • Step 4: Turn on alerts
    • If you did not turn on alerts during set-up, you can do so at any time.
    1. Tap Settings > Alerts.
    2. Tap the alert you want to set.
    3. Follow onscreen instructions.
    4. Return to Settings > Alerts to set another one.
    5. Tap the Glucose icon at the bottom of the screen to return to the home screen.
    • Smartphone safety notice
    • Your smartphone is NOT a dedicated medical device.
    • To make sure you get sensor readings and alerts:
    • Do NOT use a hacked (jailbroken or rooted) smartphone because Dexcom ONE may not work correctly.
    • Bluetooth® must be on for your transmitter and app to communicate.
    • Do NOT rely on Dexcom ONE until you understand how to use it and your smartphone’s Bluetooth.
    • Make sure your smartphone’s speaker(s) and screen work.
    • When using Bluetooth or plug-in headphones, speakers, etc., test your system to find out where your alerts sound. They might sound on your smartphone, on the headphones or speakers, etc., or on both.
    • The app uses your smartphone battery. Keep your phone charged to get readings and alerts.
    • If your smartphone or the Dexcom ONE app closes or is not working, you will NOT get readings or alerts. Occasionally check that the app is open and Bluetooth is on.

  • Step 5: Set up Dexcom ONE receiver (optional)
1. Press the Select button for 3-5 seconds.
2. Follow onscreen instructions, including instructions to turn on alerts.
  * Optional receivers may not be available in all regions.

Set up receiver

  • Step 1: Set up the optional Dexcom ONE receiver
1. Press the Select button for 3-5 seconds to turn on the receiver.
2. Use buttons to navigate. The screen will tell you which button to use.
3. Follow onscreen instructions to set up the receiver, including instructions to turn on alerts.
  * No glucose alerts unless you turn them on.
  * Turn on alerts when prompted to get glucose and system alerts after the sensor warmup is complete.
  *  **During setup, the receiver will prompt you to:**
    * Enter the transmitter serial number (SN).
    * Find the SN on the transmitter or the transmitter box.
    * Enter the sensor code from the sensor you are inserting.
    * Do not use the code from a different sensor.
    * Sensor code is on the applicator.
4. When you see this screen, set your receiver aside. Use the instructions in this guide to insert your sensor and attach your transmitter.
  • Step 2: Insert sensor
    • A. Decide where to insert your sensor
    • Ages 2-17 years only can use upper buttocks.

    • Avoid:
    • Bony areas
    • Irritated skin
    • Tattoos
    • Areas that get bumped
    • B. Insert sensor
    1. Wash hands and sensor site with soap. Dry. Scrub the sensor site with an alcohol wipe.
    2. Peel off both adhesive backings from the applicator. Do not touch the adhesive. Keep the backings. They show your sensor code. Do not place anything on the adhesive. The adhesive goes on your skin.
    3. Place the applicator on the skin before breaking the safety guard.
    4. Fold and break off the orange safety guard. Do not twist.
    5. Press the orange button to insert the sensor.
    6. Remove the applicator from the skin leaving the patch and holder on.

  • Step 3: Attach transmitter
1. Clean the transmitter with an alcohol wipe.
2. Insert the transmitter, tab first, into the holder.
3. Snap transmitter into place. You will hear a click. Make sure it is flat and snug in the holder.
4. Rub around the patch 3 times to help it stick.
  • Step 4: Pair the transmitter

2. Wait while your transmitter pairs with your receiver. This can take up to 30 minutes.
3. Keep your receiver within 6 meters of your transmitter.
  • Step 5: Sensor warmup
    • After setup, your sensor needs time to adjust to your body.
    • This takes about 2 hours. Keep your receiver within 6 meters of the transmitter.
    • You will NOT get sensor readings or alerts until the sensor warmup is complete.
    • If you did not turn on alerts during setup, turn on alerts now to get alerts when the sensor warmup is complete.
    • Wait 2 hours
    • When the sensor warmup is complete, you will get sensor readings.
  • Step 6: Check receiver settings
    • Dexcom ONE alerts will not override your receiver settings.
    • If your receiver is set to vibrate, you will not hear high or low glucose alerts.
    • To check your receiver sound settings: Go to Menu > Settings > Alert Sounds.
    • Turn on the receiver sound to hear alerts.
  • Step 7: Turn on alerts
    • No glucose alerts unless you turn them on. If you did not turn on alerts during set up, you can do so at any time. In your receiver:
    1. Go to Menu > Settings > Alerts.
    2. Select the alert you want to set.
    3. Follow the onscreen instructions.
    4. Return to Menu > Settings > Alerts to set another one.
  • Step 8: Set up the Dexcom ONE app (optional)
1. Go to the app store on your smartphone.
2. Search for Dexcom ONE.
3. Download and open the Dexcom ONE app.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions, including instructions to turn on alerts.
