cause damage to health. If gypsum and / or alginate are swallowed, consult a
doctor immediately.
WARNING – Irritation of the respiratory tract/eyes
** Take care when decanting plaster and alginate. Inhalation of dust may
irritate the respiratory tract and/or cause severe eye damage. In case of
emergency, rinse eyes under running water and seek medical attention
immediately.
CAUTION – Property damage
** Alginate and gypsum residues must not be flushed down the drain.
Alginate and gypsum residues in the drain can lead to clogging of the pipes.
Material residues must be disposed of in the residual waste.
DANGER – for children
** The SoulBaby® handprint set is not a toy. Not suitable for children.
Keep out of reach of children. Use only under adult supervision.
PREPARATION
Open your set and take out all the supplied components. Find a stable place
for the bucket (e.g. a table, a chair or on the floor) where you can
comfortably stay for up to 10 minutes with your hands in the bucket. Wash your
hands thoroughly and apply hand cream, this will make your imprint even more
detailed (rings will also be detailed).
NOTE
Alginate sets much faster in tap water with a high lime content. We
therefore recommend using distilled water to mix the alginate if the tap water
contains a lot of lime. Under the following link the lime content of the tap
water can be determined easily and quickly by location: https://bit.ly/kalk-
check
OPTIONAL – YOUR PERFECT KISSING MOUTH
In addition to your handprint, you can also mold 2 cool kissy mouths of
yourself in this step.
P.S.: With the magnet included in the set, you can attach one of the
kissing mouths to any magnetic place and create an absolute eye-catcher.
Note: Not suitable for beards!
Tip: For a colorful eye-catcher, the kissing mouths can later be painted with
a nail polish of your choice..
In this step you will need:
- Hand mixer (with only one stirring rod)
- small cup supplied (reusable)
- Bag labelled “STEP ONE ALGINATE”.
- round bowl with volume about 400 ml
- Tablespoon
- small magnet
- Sellotape
NOTE
Liquid alginate may cause stains on clothing. Therefore, we recommend
wearing old clothes.
NOTE
Alginate may cause stains on the substrate.
We therefore recommend spreading a dirt-resistant pad under the bucket.
PREPARATION
Wash your mouth thoroughly so that the impression does not become discolored
later. Decide which of you will start taking the impression of the kissing
mouth. For a comfortable position during the impression process, look for a
suitable place at an ideal height so that you can later bend your upper body
forward comfortably for a few minutes and immerse your mouth in the impression
material. (e.g. the kitchen work surface).
MIX ALGINATE
Fill your bowl (not the small cup provided) with 20 g of the contents of the
sachet “STEP ONE ALGINATE” and then add 84 ml of cold tap water. Immediately
start mixing the mixture with the hand mixer (with only one beater) on speed 1
(slow). Stir the mixture carefully so that there are no lumps. You have max.
60 seconds to mix the alginate, after that it starts to harden..
LIPS IMMERSION
Now quickly fill the alginate mass into the small cup provided with the help
of a tablespoon. The person who starts, forms his lips into a kissing mouth
and dips it into the alginate mass.
Note: Be careful not to touch the bottom of the cup with your mouth.
LIPS IMPRESSION
The impression time is approx. 3 to 5 minutes. It is essential that you keep
your mouth still during this time. As soon as the alginate feels firm,
carefully remove the mouth from the mass.
Note: If you want to make a second kissing mouth impression, you can
carefully remove your alginate impression from the plastic cup. Simply repeat
the first steps to create the second impression.
MIX PLASTER MASS
Clean the bowl and the tablespoon from possible alginate residues to get a
perfect result.
Now fill 10 g of the bag labelled STEP TWO – GIPS into the round bowl. Then
add 4 ml of cold water and start to stir the plaster into the water with the
tablespoon until there are no more lumps and plaster residues on the rim and
bottom of the bowl.
Note: Do not use a mixer for this.
FILL IN PLASTER MASS
Take the tablespoon and use it to fill the impression with the plaster. Make
sure that you do not fill the impression with plaster beyond the edge,
otherwise you will end up with an unsightly large plaster border around your
kissing mouth.
Note: To fill the second impression with plaster, repeat the last two
steps.
Now proceed immediately to the next step before the plaster begins to harden
FIX MAGNET
To attach the kissing mouth later, you can attach the magnet to the back of
your kissing mouth. Cut a piece of tape about 15 cm long and attach the magnet
to it. It’s best to do this in the middle, so that you can stick the piece of
tape over both edges of the cup. It is important that the magnet is positioned
on the surface of the plaster mass and is not completely immersed in the mass.
Note: 1 magnet per set is included.
KISS MOUTH HARDEN
Leave the kissing mouth to harden for 20 minutes at room temperature. Place
the cup in a place without sunlight and without heating heat to dry. Clean all
the materials used (tablespoon, hand mixer, bowl, etc.).
10 STEPS FOR THE PERFECT HANDPRINT
In this step you will need:
- Bucket (Please use only the supplied bucket. The amount of alginate and plaster are exactly sized for it).
- Bag labelled “STEP ONE ALGINATE”
- Hand mixer or whisk
1. CHOOSE POSE
First of all, decide how you want your work of art to look later. As soon as
the alginate is mixed, you no longer have time to think about a nice position
for your hands.
Tip: You can find lots of inspiration for beautiful poses on Pinterest.
Try out your desired position(s) in the empty bucket to find your favourite
pose.
Put your hands together in the desired pose and hold them in the empty bucket.
For a perfect result, you should have a distance of about 1 cm from the sides
of the bucket and the bottom in your desired position.
NOTE
Liquid alginate may cause stains on clothing. Therefore, we recommend
wearing old clothes.
NOTE
Alginate may cause stains on the substrate.
We therefore recommend spreading a dirt-resistant pad under the bucket.
2. MIX ALGINATE
Note: Depending on the lime content of your tap water, you have a maximum
of 120 seconds to mix the alginate completely with the water. After that, the
alginate begins to harden.
Fill the bucket with 2.2 liters of cold tap water. Set the mixer to level 1
(=slow) and immerse the stirring rod in the water. Then, gradually add the
entire contents of the bag with the label “STEP ONE ALGINATE” into the bucket
and immediately start mixing the alginate in circular motions with the hand
mixer. Smaller lumps dissolve later by themselves and are not problem.
Make sure that no powder remains on the inside of the bucket. As soon as the
color of the alginate changes from purple to light pink, the alginate begins
to harden and you must quickly proceed to the next step.
3. IMMERSE HANDS
Now speed is needed. Put the hand mixer to one side and dip your hands in the
desired pose to the bottom. Immediately pull your hands up again to wet them
completely with alginate up to the wrist and immediately dip them in again.
For a perfect result, make sure not to touch the sides or the bottom of the
bucket when dipping again. Now position yourself about 1 cm above the bottom
of the bucket. Keep a distance of about 1 cm all around, as touching the
bucket can lead to dents and inaccurate molding.
4. HAND DIP
Now hold your hands in position for about 3 – 10 minutes until the alginate is
firm. To test whether the mixture is firm enough, you can press lightly on the
surface with a finger. As soon as it feels firm and there is no more residue
on your finger, you can carefully loosen your hands with light back and forth
movements and pull them out one by one.
5. BUCKET RINSE
Place the bucket in the sink and fill it with cold tap water. Carefully rinse
the impression in the bucket by swirling it to loosen any loose alginate
residue. Carefully pour off the water over the washbasin. Make sure that the
imprint does not come out of the bucket when you tip or turn the bucket over.
In this step you will need:
- Bowl with approx. 1.5 liter capacity (Ideally with a beak, this makes it easier to pour the plaster.)
- Bag labelled “STEP TWO GIPS.”
- Bucket with the molded hands
- tablespoons
6. MIX PLASTER MASS
Fill 400 ml of cold tap water into the bowl. Next, sprinkle the entire
contents of the “STEP TWO GIPS” bag evenly over the bowl. Allow the plaster to
sink into the water for 15-20 seconds. Put on the disposable gloves and start
massaging the plaster in slowly and evenly. Massage and knead the plaster
until there are no more lumps.
7. FILL PLASTER MASS
Pour about one-third of the plaster mixture slowly (rapid pouring can cause
unwanted bubbles) into the bucket. Slowly swirl the bucket in gentle, large
circular motions until the plaster just barely does not run out over the edge
to wet the entire inner surface of the impression with plaster. Repeat these
circular movements approx. 10 times.
The circling is very important so that the plaster is optimally distributed
and the impression later reproduces all the details as desired.
Pour in approx. ⅓ of the plaster compound. Swivel the bucket again a few times
in gentle, large circular movements. Then tap the outside of the bucket with
the heel of your hand to allow air bubbles to rise, which sometimes occur
during pouring.
Pour in the last third of plaster and tap the bucket again from the outside
with t h e heel of your hand so that the last air bubbles rise.
8. LET HANDPRINT HARDEN
Now let the handprint harden for 45 minutes at room temperature. After 1 hour
at the latest, you must proceed to step 9, otherwise yellow areas may form on
your handprint. Place the bucket in a place without sunlight or heat to dry.
Clean all materials used (tablespoons, hand m i x e r , bowl, etc.).
CAUTION – Property damage
** Alginate and gypsum residues must not be flushed down the drain.
Alginate and gypsum residues in the drain can lead to clogging of the pipes.
Material residues must be disposed of in theresidual waste.
In this step you will need:**
- Bucket with cured handprint
- Wooden skewers
9. HANDPRINT RELEASE
After 1 hour at the latest, remove your artwork from the alginate. To do this,
carefully run a knife along the inner edge of the bucket to loosen the
alginate from the bucket.
Then carefully turn the bucket upside down to remove the contents from the
bucket. If the print does not come out of the bucket, gently press against the
bottom of the bucket from above.
As soon as you have taken the impression out of the bucket, take the knife and
carefully cut the alginate mass all around so that you can carefully remove
individual pieces of the alginate with your fingers.
Remove all of the alginate from your plaster handprint step by step. Be very
careful not to damage the handprint and accidentally break off a finger. The
wooden skewer helps you remove even the smallest alginate residue from the
spaces between the individual fingers.
In this step you will need:
- handprint
- sandpaper
10. FINE-TUNING
After 5 days your plaster handprint will be completely hardened. If you still
see one or two bubbles on your work of art, you can carefully remove them with
sandpaper or a wooden skewer.
Be careful not to accidentally sand away the detailed little skin wrinkles.
It’s best to try out the sandpaper on an inconspicuous area first.
If there are still unsightly spots on the kissing lips, you can also remove
them with sandpaper. If you wish, you can add some color to your kissing lips
with a nail polish of your choice.
DONE!
Congratulations!
We wish you a lot of joy with your unique handprint and the impression of
beautiful kissing lips.
Best regards from the Black Forest.
