Product Usage Instructions

Before First Use
To prepare the machine for its first use, follow these steps:

Preparing the Machine

  1. Ensure the machine is unplugged.
  2. Remove any packaging material and protective stickers.
  3. Inspect the machine for any visible damage. If damaged, contact JURA customer support.

Filling the Bean Container

  1. Open the bean container cover.
  2. Pour the desired amount of roasted coffee beans into the container.
  3. Close the bean container cover securely.

Grinding the Beans / Setting the Consistency of Grind

Grinding the Beans

  1. Ensure the machine is plugged in and turned on.
  2. Place the measuring glass under the coffee grinder spout.
  3. Press the On/Off button to activate the grinder.
  4. The machine will automatically grind the beans and dispense them into the measuring glass.

Setting the Consistency of Grind

  1. Locate the grinder adjustment knob.
  2. Rotate the knob clockwise for a finer grind or counterclockwise for a coarser grind.
  3. Experiment with different settings to achieve your desired consistency of grind.

Proper use
The machine is intended for private domestic use. It is only intended for grinding roasted coffee beans one portion at a time. Use for any other purpose will be deemed improper.

User limitations
People, including children, who

  • do not have the physical, sensory or mental capabilities to use the machine safely or
  • are inexperienced or lack knowledge must be supervised by a responsible person when using it, or must be instructed in how to use it correctly.

Use by children

Children must be able to recognise and under-stand the potential dangers arising from incorrect use:

  • Keep children under the age of 8 away from the machine, or supervise them constantly.
  • Children aged 8 and over may only operate the machine without supervision if they have been instructed in how to use it safely.
  • Children may not clean or service the machine unless supervised by a responsible person.
  •  Do not allow children to play with the machine.

What to do in the event of damage
Never use a damaged machine or mains cable. This could result in fatal electric shock.

  • In the event of signs of damage, disconnect the machine from the mains. To do this, remove the mains plug from the power socket.
  • Only permit authorised JURA service centres to carry out repairs to the machine and the permanently connected mains cable. Unsuitable repairs may result in consequential damage.

Preventing damage
To avoid damage to the machine and the mains cable:

  • Do not use the grinder or the mains cable near hot surfaces.
  • Do not allow the mains cable to rub against sharp edges and ensure that it does not become trapped.
  • Never allow the mains cable to hang down  loosely. The mains cable could pose a tripping hazard or become damaged.
  • Protect the grinder from weather and direct sunlight.
  • Only connect the grinder to a mains voltage corresponding to that stated on the rating plate. The rating plate is located on the under-side.
  • Connect the grinder directly to a domestic power socket. Using multi-socket adapters or extension cords may cause overheating.
  • Do not use any coffee beans treated with additives or caramelized coffee beans.
  • Do not use alkaline or alcohol-based cleaning agents; only use mild cleaning agents and a soft cloth.
  • Remove the mains plug from the power socket if you are going to be absent for a long period.

Danger of electric shock
Water conducts electricity. Do not bring water and electricity into contact with one another:

  • Never touch the mains plug with wet hands. U Do not immerse the grinder or the mains cable in water.
  • Do not put the grinder or any individual parts in the dishwasher.
  • Remove the mains plug from the power socket before cleaning. Always wipe the grinder with a damp cloth rather than a wet one, and protect it from prolonged exposure to water splash. The grinder must not be cleaned with a jet of water.
  • The grinder is not suitable for installation on a surface where a jet of water can be used.

Before first use

Setting up the machine

When setting up your coffee grinder, please note the following:

  • Place the grinder on a firm horizontal surface.
  • Choose a spot for your grinder which is protected against overheating.
  • Do not use the grinder in a hot, wet or damp environment.

Preparing the machine

  • Clean the outside of the grinder and the inside of the bean container with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Carefully wipe all cleaned parts dry.

WARNING

If the machine is operated with a defective mains cable, there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock.

  • Never use a machine which is damaged or has a defective mains cable.
  • Insert the mains plug into a power socket.

Filling the bean container
The bean container has an aroma preservation cover. This will ensure that your coffee beans retain their aroma for longer.

CAUTION
Coffee beans which have been treated with additives (e.g. sugar), ground coffee or freeze-dried coffee will damage the grinder.

  • Only use roasted, untreated coffee beans to fill the bean container.
  • Remove the aroma preservation cover.
  • Fill the bean container with coffee beans and close the aroma preservation cover.

Grinding the beans / setting the consistency of grind

Grinding the beans

  • Requirement:  The mains plug is plugged in.
  • Place the measuring glass on the platform.
  • Press and hold the On/Off button until there is enough ground coffee in the glass.
  • Release the On/Off button .
  • The grinder is only intended for grinding one portion at a time. If it is used excessively, it may overheat. In this case, the grinding function will be temporarily unavailable.

Setting the consistency of grind
You can adjust the grinder to suit the degree of roast of the beans you are using.

CAUTION
If you adjust the consistency of grind when the grinder is not operating, the grinder adjustment wheel could be damaged.

Only adjust the consistency of grind when the grinder is running.

Grinder adjustment wheel:

  • 1: Fine consistency of grind setting
  • 2: Coarse consistency of grind setting
  • Place the measuring glass on the platform.
  • Press the On/Off button Q and turn the grinder adjustment wheel to the desired position while the grinder is running.

Maintenance

  • Remove the mains plug from the power socket.
  • Clean the outside of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.

Remove any remains of ground coffee.
Wipe down the empty bean container with a soft, dry cloth. E Remove any remaining ground coffee on a regular basis.

Carefully wipe all cleaned parts dry.
