Retractable Motorized Screen
Owner’s Guide and Installation Instructions
Inside Mount Installation

Thank you for choosing the Larson® Retractable Motorized screen. These instructions describe an ‘inside’ or ‘recessed’ mount installation, in which the screen is recessed within the framed opening. Please read the complete installation instructions and watch the installation tutorial before beginning.
Tools Needed
Appropriate fasteners to attach the screen to the structure.
Fasteners must provide 1-1/2″ or more embedment into the substrate.
Before You Begin
Electrical:
The screen requires access to a nearby 110V outlet power source. For your
safety, disable the circuit at the electrical box before starting the
installation.
People:
Two (2) or more people are required to install the screen.
Surface Preparation:
The mounting surface must be even, appropriate for the anchoring system and
able to support the weight of the screen.
Note: Windy conditions may affect the performance of the screen. Retract the screen in windy circumstances, during inclement weather and when not needed to support immediate ventilation or prolonged periods of time when not used. Not intended to keep pets or children inside.
a. Determine location and orientation of unit to install.
b. Confirm and inspect all products.
c. Confirm the measurements of your opening and that the product you received
will properly fit your opening.

Remove Housing Cover
Remove housing cover using a T-25 Torx Bit. Save screws for reinstalling the housing cover in Step 20. -
Remove Motor Clip and Screen Tube
Remove motor clip using pliers. Remove the roll screen tube using a flat head screwdriver to compress the spring-loaded fit mechanism while guiding and removing the screen tube from the housing. -
Reattach Motor Clip
Reattach motor clip to motor-side housing. -
Prepare Housing
Prepare housing for installation by drilling holes with a 1/4″ bit. Drill holes in both housing end cap flanges. Now drill two additional holes at the center point of the housing and others every 30″-36″. -
Measure for Side Track Mounting Angle
Measure the vertical distance on each side of the opening to determine the cut length of the angle frame pieces. -
Cut Side Track Mounting Angle to Size
Mark and cut side track mounting angle to the measurement taken in Step 5. -
Install Side Track Mounting Angles
a. Measure, mark and drill installation holes in side track mounting angles (6″ from each end, then at even intervals spaced approximately 20″ apart).
b. Place side track mounting angle against structure and ensure it is plumb.
c. Fasten side track mounting angle to structure with screws at each marked point. -
Prepare Housing and Header
Mark center of housing and header. -
Install Housing
Hold housing against side track mounting angles and the opening header. Align center marks on housing and header and fasten housing to header using appropriate fasteners (not included). Ensure that the fasteners are driven at least 1-1/2″ into structural framing. -
Install Motor Cord
a. Determine the best power cord exit location for the application. Drill a 1/2″ hole through the housing and insert grommet into hole.
b. Place motor cord through motor housing channel.
c. Route wire through grommet installed in Step 10a. -
Install Screen Tube
a. Install and compress roll tube idler end first.
b. Feed the motor cord through the hole in the housing then place pressure at the end of roll screen tube with a flat head screwdriver to snap the motor head into locking plate. -
Make Electrical Connections
Connect the electrical wires to the proper screws. Install the outer cap/cover so that the individual wires and connections are concealed and protected. -
Set Up Remote
Note: Select channel number first if using multi-channel remote.
a. Plug unit in and wake up motor by pressing and holding the up and down buttons together until the motor jogs.
b. Check for correct screen rotation. If the screen moves in the opposite
direction of the button, press and hold the “my” button until unit jogs to
change rotation.
Note: Press the “my” button to stop the screen in place.
c. Set temporary upper screen limit 8″ from top by pressing the “down” and “my” buttons together. The screen will lower.
d. Set temporary lower screen limit 8″ from ground by pressing the “up” and “my” buttons together. The screen will raise.
e. Stop screen around waist height. Press and hold the “my” button until screen jogs.
f. Briefly press the “Programming” button on back side of remote. The screen
will jog.
Note: Programing procedures may vary depending on the remote. For further
guidance see the separate instructions that came with the remote.

Install Bottom Bar
a. Slide screen zipper into bottom bar chase.
b. Connect probe to flag and secure screws.
Trim excess zipper 1/2″ below the probe. -
Measure for Track Height
Measure track height on left and right sides of screen to determine track lengths. Measure from the bottom of the housing to the floor. -
Cut Side Tracks and Side Track Covers
Snap side track cover onto side track body. Measure and cut left and right side tracks and side track covers. The top of each side track has a funnel which functions as a fabric zipper lead-in. Do not include funnel in measurement – measure from flat. Do not cut any portion of this funnel from the top of the tracks. Cut only the floor side of these tracks. -
Attach Side Tracks
Position tracks beneath housing while inserting the side fabric zippers into funnel at top of each side track. Position side tracks against side track mounting angle. -
Lower Screen Through Side Tracks
While holding left and right tracks in place, lower screen to bottom limit. -
Install Side Track and Side Track Covers
Plumb and fasten side tracks to angles with self-drilling screws. Locate screws 6″ from top and bottom then spaced evenly approximately every 20″. Install side track covers. -
Reinstall Housing Cover
Reinstall housing cover. -
Set Final Upper and Lower Limits
a. Raise screen to temporary upper limit. Press the “up” and “down” buttons together until screen jogs. May take up to 15 seconds. Adjust to desired upper limit, hold the “my”button until unit jogs.
b. Lower screen to temp lower limit. Press the “up” and “down” buttons together until screen jogs. May take up to 15 seconds. Adjust to desired lower limit, hold the “my”button until unit jogs.
Note: Programing procedures may vary depending on the remote. For further guidance see the separate instructions that came with the remote.
- Final Product

Troubleshooting Guide

This is a motorized screen and it requires a power source to operate. The
screen will NOT move up or down without power. For this reason, it is highly
recommended that you arrange to have an appropriate backup power supply.
This product is intended to provide reasonable insect, wind or solar control
protection. It is not for the purpose of providing security or to provide for
the retention of objects, pets or persons from the interior. The following are
some additional DO NOT USE situations and notifications:
Do NOT use this product in any location where a fall from the opening as
possible.
Do NOT use this product to restrain people, pets or objects.
Do NOT use this product in an opening that may be needed for egress or
emergency escape.
Do NOT use this product during extreme conditions (e.g. snow, hail, ice, wind,
heat, cold, etc.).

Before You Begin
Electrical:

Remove Housing Cover
Remove housing cover using a T-25 Torx Bit. Save screws for reinstalling the housing cover in Step 20. -
Remove Motor Clip and Screen Tube
Remove motor clip using pliers. Remove the roll screen tube using a flat head screwdriver to compress the spring-loaded fit mechanism while guiding and removing the screen tube from the housing. -

Reattach motor clip to motor-side housing. -

Prepare Housing and Header
Mark center of housing and header. -
Install Housing
Align center marks on housing and header and fasten housing to header using appropriate fasteners (not included). Ensure that the fasteners are driven at least 1-1/2″ into structural framing. -
Install Motor Cord
a. Determine and drill 1/2″ cord access hole through housing and insert grommet into access hole.
b. Place motor cord through motor housing channel.
c. Route wire through grommet installed in Step a. -
Install Screen Tube
a. Install and compress roll tube idler end first.
b. Feed the motor cord through the hole in the housing and snap motor head into locking plate. -
Make Electrical Connections
Connect the electrical wires to the proper screws. Install the outer cap/cover so that the individual wires and connections are concealed and protected. -
Set Up Remote
Note: Select channel number first if using multi-channel remote.

b. Level and install tracks with appropriate fasteners (not included).
c. Test screen function by running screen up and down. Adjust tracks as needed. -
Attach Track Covers
Attach track covers using rubber mallet. -
Reinstall Housing Cover
Reinstall housing cover. -
Set Final Upper and Lower Limits
a. Raise screen to temporary upper limit. Press the “up” and “down” buttons together until screen jogs. May take up to 15 seconds. Adjust to desired upper limit, hold the “my” button until unit jogs.
b. Lower screen to temp lower limit. Press the “up” and “down” buttons
together until screen jogs. May take up to 15 seconds. Adjust to desired lower
limit, hold the “my” button until unit jogs.
