Adventure 225 Ski Box
Which roof
carriers are compatible with Heed roof boxes?
The roof box can be mounted on such roof carriers only that have been approved
for the given car models. The distance between the two cross bars should not
be less than 60 cm – see picture No. 3. The longer the distance between them
the higher stability of the roof box. The grip holders of the roof box fit all
the roof carriers with cross bars of maximum dimensions: 80 mm in length x 38
mm in height.
Opening and securing the Roof Box
The keys are attached on the side of the roof box near the central lock.
Opening: By turning the key anticlockwise – see picture No. 1 you will unlock
the roof box and the box may be opened. Some models are fitted with safety
pins – one in the front and one at the back on the opening side of the roof
box. In this case pull the edge of the box top over the safety pins towards
yourself. – see picture No. 2 step 1 to release it. For complete opening lift
the box top upwards – see picture No. 2 step 2 Closing and locking: Push the
box top all the way down until you hear the locks click Pull the box top edge
back over the safety pins (if any). Lock the box by turning the key in
clockwise direction. Make sure that the box is properly locked by trying to
lift the box top upwards.
The keys can be taken out only if the box is properly locked.
Positioning of the roof box on the roof carrier
The box is to be placed on the roof carrier in such a way that its centre
should be situated approximately in the middle between the two cross bars –
see picture No. 4. It is not recommended to place it too much forwards – see
picture No. 5 (in order to allow full opening of the back door) or too much
backwards – see picture No. 6.
The box should also run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the car – see
pictures No. 7 and 8.
Mounting the roof box to the roof carrier
From below put the U – bolt through the predrilled holes in the bottom of the
box in such a way that it at the same time embraces the cross bar of the roof
carrier. On the protruding arms of the U-bolt inside the box put the plas-tic
underpiece. The slot on its side must show to the nearest side of the box.
Then screw the plastic fly nuts on and fasten it firmly but not excessively
not to cause deformation of the U-bolt.

General instructions and recommendations
The load inside the box must always be secured with fastening straps. The
unsufficiently fixed load, if loosened during the journey, can be damaged or
may lead to accident. For securing the load use the fastening straps.
First pull them under both front and rear plastic underpieces, then push them
up through the guide slots – see the picture No. 10. Finish the attachment by
fastening the load firmly on top. The height of the load should not exce-ed
the height of the closed box. If the load is too high, the box cannot be
safely closed and it could be damaged. When loading the box spread the load
all along its length as recommended – see picture No. 11.
The weight of the load may reach up to 50 kg. Attention!! The approved total
car roof load (i.e. box weight + carrier weight + load weight) should never
exceed the maximum weight allowed by the car manufacturer. The travelling
speed with a loaded box must conform to the existing situation (weather and
road conditions, traffic density, etc.). Pay increased attention when driving
through lowered passages (e.g. garage, parking lots, etc.).
Check the strength of box fixation before each journey and at regular
intervals during long journeys. The recommended maximum travelling speed is
130 km/hour.
Maintenance
For general maintenance use usual commercial cleaning agents for plastics (no
acid agents or solvents). If no use of the box is forseen for a longer period,
dismount it and keep in dry place. For further protection treat the con-
necting metallic parts with commercial oils.
The box manufacturer denies responsibility for damages caused by careless
treatment of the product, by nonob-servance of the above instructions and by
the use of other than original parts of Neumann.
