ABOUT THIS GUIDE

This guide consists of 2 parts. Part 1 contains general instructions on assembly, use, maintenance, and warranty. Part 2 (p 73) contains illustrations, lists of parts, and assembly drawings If there is an illustration that corresponds to specific instruction in the guide, you will be referred to it with this pictogram of a pencil.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • This appliance is intended exclusively for personal use, not for commercial use.
  • This appliance can be used by children aged 8 and up and people with physical, sensory or intellectual impairments or a lack of experience and knowledge if they are supervised or instructed on how to use the appliance safely and understand the hazards involved. Children should not play with the appliance. Children should not be tasked with cleaning or maintaining the appliance.
  • Keep the appliance and cord out of reach of children under the age of 8.
  • Only plug the appliance into an socket as described on the rating plate and only plug the appliance into an earthed three-pin socket.
  • Use only one appliance per socket and use only earthed extension cords in a safe condition. The cross-sectional area of the earthing wire should be at least 1.0 mm2 (capacity of at least 10A).
  • You are strongly advised to only use power that is supplied via a residual current device (RCD), with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA, with household appliances. Consult your electrician for more details.
  • Only the designated power cord supplied with the appliance should be used.
  • The power cord should be regularly checked for damage. If the power cord is damaged, the appliance should not be used.
  • The appliance should not be operated (immediately disconnect the mains plug) if:
    • the device, casing or power cord is damaged.
    • the appliance shows visible signs of damage.
    • a fault is suspected after the appliance was dropped or a similar incident occurred.
  • Switch off at the power point and disconnect the mains plug:
    • in the event of a fault during use.
    • prior to cleaning or moving the appliance.
    • after use.
  • Please check the appliance and power cord regularly and immediately cease using the appliance by disconnecting the power cord from the power if any problems arise when using the appliance.
  • If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the Spare Parts Service or similar professionals to minimize the risk.
  • Never use this appliance within reach of water in a bath tub, wash basin or another container. Never expose it to rain, snow or other moisture.
  • Store the power cord and cable so the chance of touching or catching it is minimized.
  • Never allow the extension cord or power cord to touch the hot grill plate.
  • Do not pull the power cord over sharp edges. Ensure that the power cord does not get wedged (e.g. under doors etc.).
  • Do not place the barbecue over the edge or corner of a table and avoid all contact with the hot surfaces of the barbecue.
  • Do not use this appliance without the oil drip tray and ensure that the barbecue base is properly assembled.
  • Never cover the hotplate with aluminum foil (this damages the non-stick coating).
  • Ensure that the appliance is assembled correctly before use.
  • Keep the electric grill at least 30cm from any walls when in use.
  • The temperature of the accessible surfaces may be dangerously high when the appliance is in use. Take care and keep flammable materials away from the appliance.
  • Warning! The hotplate gets extremely hot and stays hot for a long time after it has been switched off. Beware of burns! Do not touch hot surfaces and be careful when handling the appliance after use.
  • Beware of fat, oil or liquid splattering while grilling.
  • Do not leave the appliance unattended when it is switched on or still hot.
  • Do not touch the appliance (lid or grill plate) when cooking to avoid the risk of burns.
  • Warning! Do not use charcoal or similar fuels with this appliance.
  • This appliance is solely intended for household use, such as:
    • staff kitchen areas in stores, offices and other work environments;
    • farms;
    • by customers in hotels, motels or other residential environments;
    • bed and breakfast establishments
  • Only use this appliance as described in this guide. Using the appliance in any other way than recommended by the  manufacturer may lead to fire, electric shock or injury topersons, possibly resulting in death or permanent disability.
  • This appliance may only be used for preparing food.
  • Never disconnect the plug by pulling on the power cord or with wet hands.
  • For safety reasons, you may not use any tools that were not recommended or supplied by the manufacturer.
  • Always switch off the appliance before disconnecting it from the mains.
  • Allow the appliance to cool down fully before removing attachments or cleaning the appliance.
  • The power cord must be removed before cleaning the appliance and the inlet of the appliance must be fully dried before the appliance is used again.
  • Never immerse the power cord plug or thermostat in water or other liquids.
  • Never immerse the appliance with the heating element in water. The appliance should be switched off when not in use.
  • Only professional, trained staff should repair electrical appliances.
  • Repairs carried out by unexperienced staff may lead to considerable risk to the user.
  • Prevent overheating: To prevent overheating, never cover this appliance with solid or flexible materials, such as aluminum sheets, aluminum foil or other heat-resistant materials. Use of such objects or materials on the grill may impair the safety of the product and may lead to serious damage to the product.

Take into account the following when choosing a location:

  • The appliance can be used indoors and outdoors as a table grill.
  • Grab the grill plate (2) and grill holder (4) by the heat-insulated handles on the grill holder and lift from the mounting bracket (5). Carry the table grill inside to use indoors. Ensure that you do not trip over the power cord. DO NOT CARRY WHEN HOT. Disconnect the power cord before moving.

WARNING:
We do not recommend using the lid (1) when grilling indoors

No warranty for any possible damage will be accepted if the appliance is used for unintended purposes and if it is operated incorrectly or unprofessionally. In such cases, any warranty claims are invalid.

PREPARING THE APPLIANCE FOR USE

Read the instructions carefully. They contain important advice for the use, safety and maintenance of this appliance. Keep the instructions and pass them on to other users when necessary. The appliance should only be used for the purposes described in these instructions. Follow all local regulations. Remove the packaging before use. Before you use the appliance for the first time, remove all packaging materials and  wash the grill plate. Clean the oil drip tray and the grill lid thoroughly. If you would like to use the Alexia 5111 as a table model, you must remove 4 screws.

!Important:
Dry all the parts thoroughly. This applies especially to the power inlet socket (3). Never immerse the power cord with the regulator in water. Heat the grill for approximately 3-5 minutes to the maximum setting with the lid in place and without any food. Manufacturing residues may cause some smell and smoke when the appliance is used for the first time. For safety reasons, use the appliance outdoors the first time you use it.

RECYCLING

Disable an unusable appliance immediately. Remove the mains plug and cut the power cord. If possible, take unusable appliances to an official waste collection point. Many local authorities provide removal services for large refuse at least once a year.

MAINTAINING THE APPLIANCE

  • Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
  • Allow the grill to cool down fully.
  • Remove the temperature regulator with the power cord (3) from the appliance socket (2).
  • Clean the grill plate (2) and the oil drip tray (4) with water with dishwashing liquid and a damp cloth. Do not use steel wool pads, brushes or abrasives to prevent any damage to the coating on the grill plate.
  • Wipe the appliance holder (4) with a damp cloth. Fat splashes can be removed with a mild cleaning product.
  • Please note: the grill plate has a non-stick coating. Do not scratch this coating when cooking or cleaning.

Tip: protect the appliance against dust and dirt if it is not to be used for an extended period of time.Store in a dry location.

COOKING

  • Connect the appliance to the mains supply.
  • Set the temperature regulator to the required temperature (preheating takes around 3 minutes). Preheating is faster with the lid in place.
  • The temperature indicator light switches off when the required temperature is reached.
  • Place the food to be grilled on the grill plate.

COOKING TIMES & INSTRUCTIONS
Below are the recommended cooking times. Different times will be required for different weights and sizes of food and will depend on whether you use the grill lid when grilling. Weather conditions may also affect cooking times.

  • Frozen food must be fully defrosted before barbecuing.
  • To switch off the barbecue, turn the temperature switch to the ‘MIN’ setting and disconnect the power cord from the socket.
  • Burn hazard! If the barbecue must be moved while still hot for any reason, only touch the heat-insulated handles and move slowly.
  • This table shows some example settings and cooking times for different barbecue foods. The barbecuing times may vary depending on personal taste and the thickness of the meat.

WARNING
If the electric grill is used as a table grill, it can only be used with the grill plate and grill holder. Keep the grill at least 30cm from any walls when in use. Do not screw down the plastic feet under the grill plate. This would reduce the necessary gap between the grill plate and the grill holder, which would lead to plastic parts melting. This could result in serious injury and damage to the appliance.

WARRANTY

Covered
Your appliance has a two-year warranty, starting from the date of purchase. This warranty covers all manufacturing defects, provided that:

  • You have used, assembled and maintained your appliance according to the instructions in this manual. Damage resulting from misuse, incorrect assembly, or improper maintenance is not regarded as a manufacturing defect.
  • You can present the receipt and the unique serial number of your appliance. This serial number consists of 16 digits. The serial number is stated:
    • on this manual
    • on the appliance’s packaging
    • on the bottom of the foot of the appliance
  • The Barbecook quality department will confirm that the parts are defective and that they proved defective under normal use, correct assembly, and proper maintenance. If one of these conditions is not fulfilled, you are not covered by the warranty. In all cases, the warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of defective parts.

Not covered
The following damage and defects are not covered by the warranty:

  • Normal wear and tear (rust, deformation, discoloration, etc.) of parts that are directly exposed to fire or intense heat. These parts will need to be replaced from time to time.
  • Visual irregularities that are inherent to the manufacturing process. These irregularities are not regarded as manufacturing defects.
  • All damage caused by inadequate maintenance, improper storage, incorrect assembly, or modifications made to the pre-assembled parts.
  • All damage caused by the misuse of the appliance (not using it according to the instructions in this manual, using it for commercial purposes, using it as a fire basket etc.).
  • All consequential damage caused by careless or non-compliant use of the appliance.
  • Rust or discoloration as a result of external factors, use of aggressive cleaning products, exposure to chlorine etc. This damage is not regarded as a manufacturing defect.
