Product Information

The Spotlight Cam is a wireless security camera designed to provide surveillance and monitoring for your property. It features a rechargeable battery that allows for flexible placement without the need for constant power connection. The camera connects to the Ring app, which provides live video streaming, motion detection alerts, and other advanced features.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Step 1: Download and open the Ring app on your mobile device.
  2. Step 2: Select “Set Up a Device” in the app and follow the in-app instructions.
  3. Step 3: Scan the provided QR code to identify your Ring device for quick and easy setup.
  4. Step 4: Plug in the battery using the provided USB cable and charge it fully. The small light on top will glow green when fully charged.
  5. Step 5: After charging, insert the battery into your Spotlight Cam until it clicks into place. Close the door securely.
  6. Step 6: Download the Ring app from your app store or visit ring.com/app to set up and manage your Spotlight Cam.
  7. Step 7: Set up your Spotlight Cam near your router in the Ring app. Select “Set Up a Device” and follow the in-app instructions under “Security Cams”.
  8. Step 8: Once set up, tap the “Live View” button in the Ring app to view live video from your Spotlight Cam.
  9. Step 9: If the light on the bottom of your Spotlight Cam is flashing after setup, it indicates a software update. Do not remove the battery while the light is flashing.
  10. Step 10: Test the video quality of your Spotlight Cam outside, near the desired installation location.
  11. Step 11: If everything looks good, proceed to the next section. If not, refer to the troubleshooting section for assistance.
  12. Step 12: Follow the provided instructions to remove the mounting plate if needed.
  13. Step 13: Use the included installation hardware, such as the screwdriver, mounting bracket, screws, and wall anchors, to securely install the mounting bracket on your wall or eave.
  14. Step 14: Consider the installation height based on your specific needs and follow the instructions provided to optimize motion detection.
  15. Step 15: Mark the holes for installation using the mounting bracket or arm as a guide.
  16. Step 16: Install the mounting bracket by drilling holes (for masonry surfaces) or screwing it directly into the wall (for wood surfaces).
  17. Step 17: If you have a Ring Solar Panel, it can be used to continuously charge your Spotlight Cam. Refer to page 17 or visit ring.com for more information.

Quick Start

  1. Open the Ring app and select Set Up a Device. Then follow the in-app instructions.
  2. Scan this code. This identifies your Ring device to make setup fast and easy.

Plug it in

  • First, fully charge the battery by plugging it into a power source using the provided USB cable.
  • The small light on top will glow green once fully charged

Insert the battery

Download the Ring app

  • The Ring app walks you through setting up and managing your Spotlight Cam.
  • Search for “Ring” in one of the app stores below, or visit ring.com/appring-1st-Generation-Spotlight-Cam-Battery-fig- \(4\)

Set up your Spotlight Cam in the Ring app

  • Set up your Spotlight Cam near your router.
  • In the Ring app, select Set Up a Device.
  • When prompted, select Security Cams and follow the in-app instructions.

Try it out!

White light flashing?

  • If the light on the bottom of your Spotlight Cam is flashing after setup, it’s updating its software.
  • Do not remove the battery from your
  • Spotlight Cam while the light is flashing!

Test video quality outside

  • Now, take your Spotlight Cam outside, near the place where you want to install it. Test video quality again.
  • Everything look good? Continue to the next section.
  • Something not right? Jump ahead to the troubleshooting section.

How to remove the mounting plate

Included installation hardware

Install Screws
Use these to secure the mounting bracket to your wall

Wall Anchors
Use these to attach the mounting bracket to your wall if installing on a hard surface, such as stucco or brick.

If installing on a wall:
Before installing Spotlight Cam on a wall, insert the mounting plate with the ball socket pointing down

If installing on an eave:
Before installing Spotlight Cam on an eave or overhang, insert the mounting plate with the ball socket pointing up

Choose your install height.

Install the mounting bracket.

  • First, mark your holes using the mounting bracket as a guide.
  • If installing on a masonry surface, first drill holes using a 1/4” drill bit.
  • If installing on a wood surface, you can screw the bracket directly into your wall.

If you have a Ring Solar Panel

  • Ring Solar Panel charges your Spotlight Cam continuously—no need to charge or swap out batteries.
  • If you don’t yet have a Ring Solar Panel, skip to page 17.

Mark the holes

  • Select an install location where Solar Panel can get at least 1 hour of direct sunlight a day.

Install wall anchors. (optional)
If installing on a hard surface (such as stucco or brick), use a 1/4″ drill bit to predrill the mounting holes, then insert the wall anchors.
If installing on wood or siding, skip this step

Screw in the mounting arm.
Drive the included mounting screws into your wall (or the wall anchors, if installing on a hard surface) until the mounting arm is secure

Attach the Solar Panel.
Slot the Solar Panel onto the mounting arm, and make sure it’s secure.

Adjust the panel angle.
Loosen the screw on the mounting arm and adjust the panel to your desired angle, then re-tighten the screw to secure your setting

Remove the seal.
Remove the weatherproofing seal on the rear of your Spotlight Cam. Then, slot the mounting plate back into place

Plug in your Solar Panel.

  • If your Solar Panel plug looks like example 1, simply insert it into the power port on the rear of your Spotlight Cam.
  • Press the plug in firmly, until you feel it click into place. You’re all set!

If your plug has screw tabs

Insert the plug into the power port on the rear of your Spotlight Cam. Secure the plug with the included short screws

Be sure to charge and insert the included battery. Ring Solar Panel charges the battery, but does not replace it

Attach Spotlight Cam to the mounting bracket.

  • First, fully loosen the metal collar on the bracket.
  • Then, push the ball into the socket until it snaps into place.

Adjust the camera angle.
To ensure accurate motion detection, position the camera with the motion detector parallel to the ground
Then, tighten the screw on the metal collar to secure the camera position.
