WARNINGS

GRUPEL -DC.017-2 -Deepsea -Basic -fig \(1\)

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

  • Improper waste disposal can be a threat to the environment.
  • Dispose of packaging correctly while preserving the environment.
  • Potentially hazardous fluids must be disposed of according to local regulations. Use always sealed containers when draining fluids. Do not spill debris on the floor, down the drain or into any water source.
  • Segregation of fuels, oils, refrigerants, lubricants, electrolytes and batteries must be performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

DELIVERY
Check condition of genset. In case of damage, record them on the document presented by the carrier. Check if the product matches with your order.

 INSTALATION

GRUPEL generator sets are designed for safe and efficient use. The generator set can be installed indoors or outdoors, always considering that the set must be protected from rain and dust. In the case of a stationary group, it should not be installed outdoors.

When installing a generator set the following precautions must be taken:

  • Adequate ventilation;
  • Enough distance to obstacles for proper cooling;
  • Enough distance to obstacles to facilitate access to maintenance;
  • Necessary and adequate protections;
  • Presence of extinguisher abroad;
  • Presence of extinguisher inside;
  • Sandbox;
  • Location forbidden to unauthorized persons.

Special care with:

  • Concrete massif: massif will absorb some of the vibrations caused by the engine, so it should be sturdy enough to withstand its weight, as well as the forces that can be generated;
  • Ventilation: adequate ventilation must be provided at the installation site to allow enough air inlet and outlet for proper cooling of the unit.
  • Extraction gases, in pipeline directing gaseous effluents: it is important to channel the hot air from the radiator to the outside. Otherwise it may increase the air temperature around the group and cause it to stop due to lack of cooling;
  • Grounding: this must be done in accordance with the regulations of the country of installation in order to avoid the appearance of voltages in the metal masses due to, among other possible causes, insulation defects.

MOVING AND STORAGE

GRUPEL -DC.017-2 -Deepsea -Basic -fig \(2\)

If the generator is to be stored before to use, adequate facilities must be provided, free of dust and moisture, and the unit must be protected from chemical agents that could damage it or could damage any of its components. If storage is expected for more than five months, it is advisable to remove engine oil and filters until the equipment is used. Battery must be turn off.

STARTING UP

Before starting up a generator, check that:

  • batteries are correctly connected
  • earthing has been properly established
  • all electrical connections have been made
  • the installation of the group complies with the conditions established by the manufacturer and the legislation in force.
  • oil levels are correct
  • antifreeze levels are correct
  • fill the fuel tank with at least 20%, but not more than 90%.
  • start the generator in the controller for 1 minute at no load
  • after 3 months without functioning: it is recommended to add an antibacterial product to the fuel
  • after 6 months of non-operation: must proceed as defined by the engine manufacturer, regarding long-term storage.

Using the directional keys, we can navigate between the different menus concern- ing generator instrumentation values, grid… etc.
The buttons  allow us to change between the different parameters within the same menu. The STOP/RESET button – key 5, allows the generator to be stopped (start in OFF mode) as well as to reset the alarms whose cause has been solved. If we press this button when the equipment is running, the generator will discharge, open the circuit breaker and stop. If while in this mode, the computer receives a boot command either locally or remotely, the machine will not start. Key 6 allows the use of manual mode, allowing local start – key 10. As soon as it starts, it also allows the generator to be loaded – key 4, if the grid is present, the generator will synchronize with the grid, assume the load and will open the network breaker. If the generator is idle and there is no network present, it will turn off the circuit breaker without synchronizing. With load group, the push – button 3, allows charging the network. Pressing button 3 the generator will synchronize with the network, to pass the load to the network, and open the group circuit breaker.

Operating mode – TEST
This mode is used to enable fault diagnosis. This operating mode is activated by pressing button 7. A LED light next to the button will confirm this action. To start the generator in test mode just press button 10. At this point, the starting sequence begins and the genset starts. The generator will synchronize with the mains, and the group breaker will close. The load will be assumed by the group from the network up to the predefined level. If the module has an island start remote start, the group will synchronize with the network and will assume the load from the network to the group. The network breaker will receive an opening order. To stop the group will have to press button 5, then the system will stop immediately.

Operating mode – MANUAL
This mode is activated by pressing button 6, however, to start the start sequence, it is necessary to press button 10. The load will not be transferred to the generator until the mains supply fails, a remote start signal is used or press button 4. If any of these events occur, the group will be synchronized and in parallel with the network supply.

Operation Mode – IN PARALLEL
If you press button 4 again while the group is in parallel, the load will be transferred from the network to the group. The network breaker will open. By pressing button 3 the network and the group will resynchronize, returning to parallel mode. Pressing button 3 while the group is in parallel will transfer the load to the grid. If automatic mode is selected and the network supply is adequate, and no start request is activated, the automatic shutdown sequence will start.

Operating mode – AUTOMATIC
Activate automatic mode by pressing button 8. A LED indicator next to the button will confirm this action. Automatic mode will allow the generator to operate fully automatic, starting and stopping if necessary without user intervention.

Remote start in ISLAND MODE
It is used to start the generator with the external start order. As soon as the group starts, a set time elapses allowing the motor to stabilize before accepting the load. The generator synchronizes with the grid before closing the group breaker, and will transfer the load from the grid to the generator. After a while, the generator will take over and give the grid an opening order. When the start request ceases, the generator synchronizes with the grid, and closes the grid breaker. Load shedding begins for the network. Opens the group breaker and the stop sequence will start.

Remote start on LOAD
Used to start the generator in response to falling load levels in the mains supply. When the load level on the network exceeds the pre-selected level, the module begins the boot sequence. First, the group will synchronize with the network and the group breaker will be ordered to close. The generator will assume the load together with the grid. When the starting conditions cease, the stop sequence begins, the generator shuts down the load and opens the group breaker. Starts the cooling time, after which it stops.

ATS / QTC – AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH

There are two types of Automatic transfer Switch (ATS):

GRUPEL -DC.017-2 -Deepsea -Basic -fig \(15\)

ATS IN – located inside the generator’s electrical panel

ATS OUT – located outside the generator

In the genset controller panel you can find:

  1. Source 1 (network);
  2. Consumer (item to be loaded);
  3. Source 2 (generator);
  4. Power ON / OFF Switch;
  5. LED access: ATS energized;
  6. LED access: Generator will be / is activated;
  7. LED access: Automatic mode triggered;
  8. LED access: Manual mode triggered;
  9. Button for setting Automatic or Manual mode.

If you have requested an ATS/QTC OUT, you must make the respective electrical power connections:

  • Mains input cables for order of color: blue (neutral), grey (Phase 1), black (Phase 2) and brown (Phase 3);
  • Output cables for the load, obeying the color order of the input.
