Living Flame Gas Fires and Fireplaces
ELECTRIC ON / OFF CONTROL
Your fireplace may be equipped with one of two types of Electric On / Off Control systems:
Option A: Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control with a Two Stage Two Button Control
This control system has a two button pilot lighter and operates in two stages. To use it, follow the instructions specific to this type of control.
Option B: Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control with a Manual Rotary Control
If your fireplace has this control system, it uses a manual rotary control. To use it, follow the instructions specific to this type of control.
Please inspect your fireplace to determine the specific componentry it utilises. Pull open the hinged ash cover door at the base of your fireplace to reveal the either The Two Stage Two Button Control or the Manual Rotary Control. To avoid any confusion and ensure proper usage, it is important to correctly identify which control system components your specific fireplace has.

Option B: Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control with a Manual Rotary Control
OPTION A: ELECTRIC ON / OFF CONTROL WITH A TWO STAGE TWO BUTTON CONTROL
Option A: Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control with a Two Stage Two Button Control
This Electric On / Off Wall Control requires two main components:
A1. Two Stage Two Button Control
A2. Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control
The following information provides instructions across both parts.
A1. TWO STAGE TWO BUTTON CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS
A1. Two Stage Two Button Control
- Windows currently showing On and High flame
Firstly, to Light the Pilot (‘Star’ button):
- Confirm that the gas supply is turned on.
- Push in the ‘Star’ button and hold for 10-20 seconds to allow gas flow.
- Light the pilot with a gas lighter / match. DO NOT USE A CANDLE TO LIGHT THE PILOT LIGHT.
- Keep the button depressed for 30 seconds after the pilot lights.
- Release the ‘Star’ button and the pilot should stay alight.
- Note: In case of an interruption in the gas line during the initial ignition, it may be necessary to repeat the start-up sequence multiple times.
To Start the Fire:
- The pilot should be alight.
- The ‘Star’ button now becomes the On / Off.
- On – Push the ‘Star’ button so that it pops out. A large flame icon will be displayed in the corresponding window.
- Off – Depress the ‘Star’ button. A star icon will be displayed in the corresponding window.
The High / Low Flame (‘Flame’ button):
- Low – Depress the ‘Flame’ button. A small flame icon will be displayed in the corresponding window.
- High – Push the ‘Flame’ button so that it pops out. A large flame icon will be displayed in the corresponding window.
- Note: When lighting the burner for the first time in the day, make sure the ‘Flame’ button is popped out. This will help the main burner to light quickly and smoothly.
A2. ELECTRIC ON / OFF WALL SWITCH CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS
A2. Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control
Secondly, use the Electric On / Off Wall Switch:
- Access the Electric On / Off Wall Switch on the wall next to the fire.
- Once the Two Stage Two Button Control is On and the pilot light is On, the Electric On / Off Wall Switch will over-ride the On and Off of the Two Stage Two Button Control.
- If the Two Stage Two Button Control is Off, the fire cannot be turned On.
The Fan switch (2 Button Option only):
- Once the fire has reached temperature, activate the Fan switch to circulate air throughout the space.
To Turn Off the Fire:
- To shut off, press the On / Off switch to the Off position.
The Safety Shut-Off:
- If the pilot is interrupted or fails to ignite, the Controls will automatically shut down.
Note: Your fireplace should be serviced annually by Living Flame or a registered service agent.
OPTION B: ELECTRIC ON / OFF CONTROL WITH A MANUAL ROTARY CONTROL
Option B: Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control with a Manual Rotary Control
This Electric On / Off Wall Control requires two main components:

B2. Electric On / Off Wall Switch Control
The following information provides instructions across both parts.
B1. MANUAL ROTARY CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS
B1. Manual Rotary Control
Firstly, To Light the Pilot:
- Confirm that the gas supply is turned on.
- Verify that the control is in the Off position.
- Press and hold the control knob for 10 seconds.
- While continuing to press the control knob, rotate it counterclockwise to the “Pilot/Sparker” position.
- Gas will flow to the pilot burner, while the piezo igniter will spark and light the pilot.
- Should the pilot fail to light, repeat the sequence for start-up.
- When the pilot lights, keep the control knob depressed for approximately 10 seconds until the pilot remains alight when the control knob is released.
- Note: In case of an interruption in the gas line during the initial ignition, it may be necessary to repeat the start-up sequence multiple times.
The High / Low Flame dials:
- Optimise the High / Low function by allowing the fire to heat up on High for 10-15 minutes before switching to Low. This maximises heat output while conserving up to half the gas supply.
- Rotate the control knob to ignite the main burner.
- Low – A small flame diagram indicates a low flame.
- High – A large flame diagram indicates a high flame, or choose any desired intermediate level in between.
B2. ELECTRIC ON / OFF WALL SWITCH CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS

Secondly, use the Electric On / Off Wall Switch:
- Access the Electric On / Off Wall Switch on the wall next to the fire.
- Once the Rotary Control is On and the pilot light is On, the Electric On / Off Wall Switch will over-ride the On and Off of the Rotary Control.
- If the Rotary Control is Off, the fire cannot be turned On.
The Fan switch (2 Button Option only):
- Once the fire has reached temperature, activate the Fan switch to circulate air throughout the space.
To Turn Off the Fire:
- To shut off, press the On / Off switch to the Off position.
The Safety Shut-Off:
- If the pilot is interrupted or fails to ignite, the Controls will automatically shut down.
