Faraday Future Level 2 EV Charging Station
The FF L2 Home Charge is a powerful 80A, heavy-duty, electric vehicle charging station built for any indoor or outdoor environment. FF L2 Home Charge is OCCP Compatible and comes with a full suite of Smart Charging features.
FF L2 Home Charge is built with a robust cast-aluminum enclosure and comes with a 24ft Heavy-Duty 80A Charging cable. Internal design and components of the charger have been selected to provide maximum operational life of the device.
FF L2 Home Charge provides up to 19kW of power to your vehicle. Physical switches inside can be set to provide 80A, 48A, 40A, 32A, 24A, or 16 Amps adjustable maximum current.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
This document contains instructions and warnings that must be followed when installing and using the FF L2 Home Charge Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). Before installing or using the EVSE, read this document including any WARNING and CAUTION symbols.

  • This document provides instructions for the charging station and should not be used for any other product. Before installation or use of this product, review this manual carefully and consult with a licensed contractor, licensed electrician, or trained installation expert to ensure compliance with local building codes and safety standards.

Basic precautions should always be followed when using electrical products, including the following:

  • Improper connection of the equipment grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a licensed electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly connected and grounded.

Repair and Maintenance Clause

  • All FF products do not require routine maintenance however, periodic inspections should be conducted to ensure that all parts remain in good working order and no damage exists.
  • Do not attempt to open, disassemble, repair, tamper with, or modify any components of the products. Contact Technical Support for any repairs.

WARNING : This equipment is intended only for charging vehicles that do not require ventilation during charging. Please refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine ventilation requirements.

Installation Planning and Service Wiring

WARNING : Disconnect the power supply to the charging station before installing, adjusting, or repairing the charging. Failure to do so may result in physical injury or damage to the power supply system and the charging station.
CAUTION : To reduce the risk of fire, connect only to a circuit provided with the minimum branch circuit overcurrent protection requirements in accordance with the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA 7- and the Canadian Electrical Safety Code, Part 1, C22.1. If you are unsure if your circuit meets these requirements consult a licensed electrician.

2.1 Electrical Source Requirements

  • Prior to mounting, locate an available electrical source that can support the following Input Requirements for the Charging Station Per local Electrical Safety Code requirements:
    » 80A Maximum Output Setting: DEDICATED CIRCUIT rated for 100A, 208-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, Single Phase must be used
    » 48A Maximum Output Setting: DEDICATED CIRCUIT rated for 60A; 208-240 VAC, 5060 Hz; Single Phase must be used
    » 40A Maximum Output Setting DEDICATED CIRCUIT rated for 50A; 208-240 VAC, 50- 60 Hz, Single Phase must be used.
    » 32A Maximum Output Setting: DEDICATED CIRCUIT rated for 40A; 208-240 VAC, 5060 Hz, Single Phase must be used.
    » 24A Maximum Output Setting: DEDICATED CIRCUIT rated for 30A; 208-240 VAC, 5060 Hz, Single Phase must be used.

  • A Double Pole Circuit Breaker of the circuit rating must be used.

  • The Charger is equipped with GFCI. Additional downstream GFCI is not required.

  • The Charging Station must be hardwired to the circuit panel. Do not use this device with an electrical plug, extension cord, or electrical adapter.

2.2 Grounding Instructions
The charging station must be implemented equipment grounding through a permanent wiring system or an equipment grounding conductor. Use a cable with a dedicated grounding conductor connected to the equipment ground terminal block.

Adjustable Maximum Current Output

The FF L2 Home Charger station features the ability to adjust the maximum current output to support 100A, 60A, 50A, 40A, 30A, or 20A Dedicated Circuit ratings as follows:

  • The Charging Station Default Factory Maximum Current Output Setting is 40A (9.6 kW) for use with a 50A Circuit Rating.
  • The Circuit must be a DEDICATED CIRCUIT 208-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz, Single Phase.
  • Requirements govern that only 80% of the circuit rated load may be utilized, hence the higher Circuit Ratings Requirement relative to maximum Charging Station output.

3.1 Adjust Maximum Current Output

  1. Ensure unit is unplugged. Secure the Charging Station on a flat surface with the front cover facing out.

  2. Remove the front cover by removing the 4 screws at each corner of the charging station. Use 5/32” (M4) hex key to remove screws.

  3. With the front cover placed to the side, locate the DIP switch on the charging station circuit board. Disconnect the power supply to the charging station before adjusting the DIP Switches.
    Failure to do so may result in physical injury or damage to the power supply system and the charging station.

  4. Adjust the Maximum Current Output to either 80A, 48A, 40A, 32A, 24A or 16A, using the following combination of DIP switch settings:

  5. Once the DIP Switch Setting is adjusted, reassemble the charging station. Reinstall the top cover to the charging station using the following torque force to secure the (4) socket cap screw:

Installation

4.1 Install the Charging Station

  1. Separate the front and back piece of the mounting bracket by pushing down on the notch.

  2. Attach the front piece of the mounting bracket to the back of the charging station using the Socket-cap screws. Ensure the top of the mounting bracket is matched with the top of the charging station.Faraday Future P-03850861 Level 2 Home Electric Vehicle Charger - front piece

  3. Secure the back piece of the mounting bracket to the wall or other suitable structure using the Robertson-head screws. The back piece of the mounting bracket has 3 holes to support attachment to various surfaces. Use the top two holes to attach the mounting bracket to a wall stud.
    Mounting Screw Recommendations:
    • For finished walls supported by wood studs, use #14 or M6 tapping screws. (Included).
    • For masonry walls, use M6 mechanical screws. (Commercially available)
    • Use following torque force: Mount the unit so the bottom of the enclosure is at least 18” (460mm) above floor level.

  4. Mount the charger on the wall by securing the front piece of the mounting bracket to the back piece of the mounting bracket.Faraday Future P-03850861 Level 2 Home Electric Vehicle Charger - bracket

  5. Secure the charger in place by inserting either the security pin or the outdoor security lock into the mounting bracket.

Hardwire Connection

5.1 Prepare Wiring

  1. Choose appropriate wire gauge based on maximum output current settings. For more information on maximum output current see 3. Adjustable Maximum Current Output on page 10. Follow all applicable electrical safety codes and standards. Use Red wire for L1, Black wire for L2, Green wire for G.

  2. Clamp the ring terminal to the copper wire. For non-insulated terminals, use heat shrink tube to cover the non-insulated portion of the terminal. Choose a terminal ring with the following characteristics:
    » Rating: 3AWG – 6AWG
    » Recommended Wire Strip length: 8mm (0.32in)
    » Terminal Screw With: M5 (0.2”)

  3. Choose an appropriate conduit in accordance with all applicable electrical safety codes and standards. Diameter of the enclosure opening is 1.26″ (32mm).

5.2 Hardwire Charger

  1. Remove the front cover by removing the 4 screws at each corner of the charging station. For more information on how to remove the front cover refer to Chapter 3.1

  2. Release terminal screws from terminal connectors using Phillips Head (PH3) screwdriver)

  4. Feed the input wires (L1, L2, G) through the conduit into the charger.

  5. Connect the Ground wire to the Ground Input terminal.
    Tighten to 16 LBF.IN.

  6. Feed L1 and L2 wire through the transformer.

  7. Connect L1 and L2 wires to the corresponding terminal. Tighten to 16 LBF.IN.

  8. Once the input wiring and conduit are connected, reassemble the charging station. Reinstall the charging station cover.

The EasyEVPlug™ Holster is the new innovative method to protect your plug and manage your cord. It has the following features:

  • No need to aim – flawless plug even in the dark.
  • Your EV holster will always be in a convenient location.
  • Saves space – special angle for less wall clearance.
  • Integrated cable management – holds up to 25 feet of cable.

The EasyEvPlug holster can be installed at any location near the charging station.

  1. Hold back of holster against the mounting surface. Fasten Phillips head screws through back holes. Use anchors if attaching directly to drywall.
  2. Insert charging connector into holster.
  3. Wrap cable on top of EasyEvPlug.

Charging Status Indicators and Buzzers

7.1 Indicator Lights
FF L2 Home Charger uses the following indicator lights for the charger status:

7.2 LED Fault Indicator
When FF L2 Home Charge experiences an error, the red light will flash, and the buzzer will beep a specific number of times. The cycle will pause for 1 second and repeat.
The number of red flashes and beeps indicates the type of fault:

7.3 Self-Monitoring and Recovery (Auto Restart)
When a charging session is interrupted due to a temporary error condition, it will automatically restart when the cause of the temporary error condition returns to normal.
The status indicator lights remain flashing RED, with the number of flashes indicating the error condition.

  • All error conditions can Self-Recover if the error condition is cleared.
  • The charger will automatically reset if the error condition is cleared. If the error condition is not cleared the charger will continue to display a RED error light.
  • If the error condition occurs within 5 seconds of the start of a charging session a permanent fault will trigger.

7.4 Error Troubleshooting

If the charger is not able to auto-recover, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the charging connector from the vehicle.
  2. Count the number of flashes to identify the error type.
  3. Follow the directions in Chapter 8.1 Connect to Local FF L2 Home Charge Network on page 21 to view the charger’s status. The status will display the error type.
  4. Power off the charger by switching the upstream circuit breaker to the “OFF” position
  5. Wait 1-2 minutes. Switch the upstream circuit breaker back to the “ON” position
  6. Confirm the Fault light is no longer present.
  7. If the Fault light remains, please contact Technical Support.

FF L2 Home Charge Smart Features

FF L2 Home Charge has a complete set of Smart Features. Follow the instructions in this section to access and use Smart Features:

  • FF L2 Home Charge can connect to any device that connects to WI-Fi (Smart Phone, Laptop, Computer).
  • FF L2 Home Charge Smart Features are available through the web browser. There is no iOS or Android application.
  • FF L2 Home Charge only has a local connection, you must be within range of the charger’s network or home Wi-Fi network to access Smart Features.

8.1 Connect to Local FF L2 Home Charge Network

  1. Plug in the Charger.
  2. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone or computer.
  3. Select the charger’s Wi-Fi network FF_####.
  4. Open your web browser.
  5. Enter the IP address 192.168.4.1 into the browser search bar.
  6. The Smart Features will load.

8.2 Status
Condition

Term Definition
Status Displays the real-time status of the charger.
Plugged In Displays if the charger is plugged into the vehicle.
Voltage The measured voltage from the charger.
Current The measured current being delivered to the vehicle.
Power, kW The measured power delivered to the vehicle in kW.
Relay Temperature °C The measured temperature of the charger’s interior.
Session, kWh The total kWh delivered to the vehicle since the start of the

charging session.
Session Time| Total time of the charging session.
Session cost| The total  charging session cost. Cost is calculated using the Session, kWh x the active Rate. For information on setting the rate, see «Rates» on page 24 setting.
Rate| Displays the active rate used to calculate the Session Cost.
Total kWh|  The total power delivered by the charger over its life.

Adjustments
Current limit, A:
Set the maximum current by using the slider:

Adjustments Note : Only Maximum Current settings equal to or less than the DIP switch settings will display. See «3.1 Adjust Maximum Current Output» on page 10 to change the maximum amperage settings.
Stop Charging:
Enable the button to stop the charging session. The charger will display a yellow indicator light. Disable the button to restart the charging session.

Independent Counters
Two independent counters calculate the kWh and Cost of the charging:

  • Select the Reset button beside Counter A or Counter B to reset the counter to 0.
  • Counter will automatically begin to track Energy kWh and Cost when the charging session begins.
  • Uses counters to track any period you wish. For example, one weekly and one monthly. Charts
    Three Charts will show on the bottom of the Status Page:

    Charts will update in real-time to display information from the previous 15 minutes.
    Charts will automatically scale to fit all data. Previous chart information is not accessible.

8.3 Timer
Charge Now
Avoid Limits:
Enable the Avoid Limits button to bypass all limits and schedules and begin the charging session. All set Limitations will disable.
Avoid Limits one charge:
Enable the Avoid Limits One Charge button to bypass all limits and schedules and begin the charging session. Set Limitations will save for the next charging session. The button will automatically disable when the one charging session is complete.

Limitations
Time Limit:
The charging session will stop when the time limit has been reached. The time limit will
override any set schedules.
To set the Time Limit:

  1. Enable the Time Limit button.
  2. Set the Time using the scroll bar (HH:MM:SS). The timer will begin to count down once the time limit is set.

Energy Limit kWh:
The charging session will stop once the energy limit has been reached. The Energy limit will override any set schedules.

To set Energy Limit:

  1. Enable the Energy Limit button.
  2. Set the Energy limit using the scroll bar. Energy is measured in kWh. The energy will count down once the energy limit is set.

Money Limit
The charging session will stop when the money limit has been reached.
To set Money Limit:

  1. Enable the Money Limit button.
  2. Set the Money Limit using the scroll bar. Money is calculated by multiplying kWh x the active rate. The cost will count down once the money limit is set.

Rates
Set the Rates to calculate the cost per kWh of the charging session. Rates are set to $ per kWh.
Primary Rate:
Type the primary rate into the text box. Example:
0.12 = 12¢/kWh. This rate will apply at all times unless Rate 2 or Rate 3 are activated.
Rate 2:
Enable the Rate 2 button.
Set the Start and Stop time for Rate 2. Rate 2 will apply during these times. For all other times, the primary rate will apply.
Rate 3:
Enable the Rate 3 button.
Set the Start and Stop time for Rate 3. Rate 3 will apply during these times. For other times Rate 2 and the primary rate will apply. Schedule
Set the charging schedule to charge between certain times.

Primary Schedule:
Enable the Primary schedule button.
Set the Start and Stop times.
Optional: Enable Energy Limit 1, kWh. The power output will be limited to this value during the scheduled times.
Optional: Enable Current limit 1, A. The current will be limited to this value during the scheduled times.
Secondary Schedule:
The secondary can be used alongside the primary schedule. For example, use the secondary schedule for weekends or preconditioning the vehicle.
Enable the Secondary Schedule button.
Set the Start and Stop times.
Optional: Enable Energy Limit 1, kWh. The power will be limited to this value during the scheduled times.
Optional: Enable Current limit 1, A. The current will be limited to this value during the scheduled times.
If the Primary and Secondary schedules overlap, the schedule that begins first will apply until it reaches the stop time.

System Time
Set the system Time for all schedules and rates:
Enter the time in the Current Time field.
Enter the Time Zone. Follow the chart below to enter the correct Time Zone:
Select the Update Time button. Refresh the page to apply all settings.

Reset Limits and Schedule Settings
Select the Reset Limits and Schedule Settings button to reset all schedules and limitations.
Refresh the page to apply all settings.

8.4 Setup
WiFi AP Configuration
Use this setting to configure the charger’s Wi-Fi network.
AP Name:
Name of the Charger network. The default is FF_####.. Change to any network name if desired.
AP Password:
The password for the charger’s Wi-Fi network. The default is no password. Set a password for the Charger network to prevent others from accessing the network. Confirm the password in the Confirm Password textbox.
Select the Save button to save the AP Name and AP Password.
Local WiFi Configuration
Connect the charger to a local Wi-Fi network. This will allow you to access the Smart features while connected to this network.
To connect the charger to a local Wi-Fi network:
Enable the Connection button
Select the Search button from the Available Networks section. Allow the page to scan the Available networks. Select your network from the list of Available networks. Click directly on the network name.
The network name will populate the Wi-Fi name field. Enter the Wi-Fi Password and Confirm the Wi-Fi password. Select the Save button under Available networks. The local IP address for the saved network will display in the Wi-Fi Info section.
Copy the Local IP Address. Connect to your local Wi-Fi network.
Paste and go to the Local IP Address into your web browser. Optional: Connect by MAC Address
Connect to by MAC Address if your local Wi-Fi network has multiple access points and you want to connect to the closest access point.
Enable the Connect by Mac Address button.
Select the Search button from the Available Networks section. Allow the page to scan the Available networks.
Select your network from the list of Available networks. Click directly on the network name.
Select the MAC Address from the closest available access point. Multiple MAC Addresses will display if the network has more than one access point. The Wi- Fi Name and MAC Address fields will automatically populate.
Select the Save button under Available Networks. The local IP address for the saved network will display in the Wi-Fi Info section. Copy the Local IP Address.
Connect to your local Wi-Fi network.
Paste and go to the Local IP Address into your web browser.

Page Access
The Page Access section allows you to set a Username and Password for the mate web page to prevent unauthorized use.

  1. Enter a Username into the Name field.
  2. Enter a password for your page. Confirm the password in the confirm password field.
  3. Select the Save button.
  4. Refresh the webpage. You will be prompted to enter the Username and Password.

Session History
Session History displays statistics from the 4 most recent charging sessions.
Session History will display the following fields:

  • Date
  • Energy (kWh)
  • Time

Data from previous charging sessions beyond the 5 most recent is not saved.

7.5 Advanced
Adaptive Mode
Adaptive Mode automatically adjusts the current to the charger if there is an unexpected drop in voltage threshold from your electric provider. It is recommended only to use Adaptive Mode if you live in an area with unstable power and frequent drops in voltage.
Contact technical support before setting it if you need clarification on whether you require Adaptive Mode

Enable the Adaptive Mode button.
Select the Adaptive Mode Type:

  • Voltage
  • Auto
  • Power

Voltage:
Set the under-voltage threshold from 180-220. Current will decrease when the voltage drops below the threshold.
Auto:
Current will automatically decrease by 20% when the voltage drops 6%, 30% when the voltage drops 8%, and there will only be minimal current when the voltage drops 10% or more.
Power:
Current will decrease if the output power decreases. Minimal current will be available if the power drops more than 200W.

Other

There are two different Timer Types:

  • noPWM
  • VW

The Timer Type is the algorithm for a delayed charge (for example, a scheduled charge).
The type of algorithm used depends on the vehicle.
If a scheduled charge does not work as expected, try using a different Timer Type for better results.
Minimum Voltage, V
Minimal voltage is the lowest voltage at which a charging session will proceed. The charging session will not start or will interrupt if the measured voltage is below the set minimum.
It is recommended to keep the default minimum voltage unless you live in an area with unstable power and lower voltages.

Operation

9.1 Connect and Charge
Insert the charging Connector into the EV and ensure the connector is fully seated/locked in place. Once complete, the charging session will begin.

9.2 Stop Charging

  1. Press down on the latch release button. Ensure latch release button is fully compressed.
  2. Remove the Charger Connector from the EV
  3. Return the connector to the holster.

9.3. General Product Care and Use
The exterior of the charging station is designed to be waterproof and dustproof (NEMA 4 Outdoor Rated). However, periodic cleaning may be required.
To ensure proper maintenance of the charging station, follow these guidelines:

  • Only use an automotive-grade soft cleaning cloth with soap and water to clean. Do not use cleaning solvents.
  • Submerging the unit under water is not recommended.
  • Ensure the power cable is stored on the holster after use to avoid damage.
  • When moving or lifting the unit, always grasp and carry by the charging station body.
    Never attempt to carry the unit by any of the electrical cables. Use the soft carrying case when transporting the charger over long distances.
