MOUNTAINEERING HELMET

The following guidelines should be read
carefully and complied with at all times.
This specially designed mountaineering
and climbing product does not release
you from your own personal risk.

WARNING

Anyone using Mammut equipment of any
kind is personally responsible for learning
the proper use and technique. Every user
assumes any risks and accepts full responsibility
for any damages or injuries of any
kind that result from the use of Mammut
products. Neither the manufacturer nor the
retailer accept any liability in the event of
abuse and improper use and/or handling.
These guidelines are intended to help you
use the product correctly. Since it is not
possible to list all incorrect usages and
possible errors, these instructions can never
replace your own knowledge, training,
experience and personal responsibility.
Removing or modifying original parts will
make the helmet unusable. Using a helmet
does not eliminate the risk of serious to
fatal injury.

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT

Optimum storage conditions are: Store a cool dry
place; do not store in transport containers;
protect from UV radiation, chemicals, heat
and mechanical damage (Fig. A, B).

CLEANING

In the event of soiling, clean the
product with lukewarm water and neutral
soap or a small amount of mild detergent,
if necessary. Then rinse thoroughly and
allow to dry in the shade. The helmet
should in no circumstances be dried in a
dryer or near a radiator.
Halogen-free commercial disinfectants
may be used, if necessary.
Metallic parts should be polished with a
non-acidic oil (Fig. C, D).

EFFECTS OF CHEMICALS AND ENVIRONMENTAL

INFLUENCES

Avoid all contact with acids, solvents and other reactive
materials or sources of heat. Caution:
Aggressive chemicals (including dye, solvents,
gummed and self-adhesive labels)
and intense heat can impair the properties
of the product without any outer signs of
damage. In the event of contact, replace
the product immediately (Fig. A).

ACCESSORIES

This product must be used
only in combination with other equipment
that complies with PPE Regulation (EU)
2016/425 for personal protective equipment
(PPE). Observe the individual guidelines
and standards.

SERVICE LIFE AND REPLACEMENT

The helmet must be inspected thoroughly
before and after every use for damage
and signs of wear and tear. The product’s
service life depends on many factors,
such as how often it is used, where it is
used, etc. In principle, the product is to be
replaced immediately:

– after a hard fall
– after contact with aggressive chemicals
(e.g. battery acid)
– in the event of tears, deep scratches
or bumps on the surface of the helmet
– in the event of tears on the chin strap,
headband, buckle or tensioning straps
– in the case of excessive wear
– in the case of heavy and irreversible
soiling

The helmet is designed to absorb the
energy of an impact by partial destruction
or damage to the helmet shell and lining.
Critical damage to the helmet may not be
externally visible; in this case, the product
should no longer be used.
In situations of optimal storage and rare
use, the product must be replaced no later
than 10 years after the date of manufacture.
Under extreme conditions (frequent
stone and ice shock loads, scratches and
scrapes) the safety reserves may have
depleted so greatly after a short period
of use (< 1 year) that replacement is
inevitable.

USAGE

Fitting your helmet: The helmet’s
range of adjustment allows you to adjust
the helmet to different head sizes and
head coverings. After putting on the helmet,
it must be adjusted. Optimum protection
is only achieved if the helmet is correctly
adjusted to the individual head size:

– Turn the thumb wheel on the back of the
helmet in a counter-clockwise direction
to open the headband (see Figure 5).
– Put the helmet on your head and check
the fit symmetrically and horizontally.
The size of the headband can be adjusted
by turning the thumb wheel in a
clockwise direction until the helmet fits
securely but comfortably (see Figure 1).
– The height of the headband and position
of the chin strap can be adjusted by moving
the two side buckles and the adjustment
system on the back (see Figure 2).
– Fasten the chin strap using the buckle
and tighten by pulling the strap. Make
sure the buckle is completely closed
(see Figure 3).
– To attach a headlamp, slide the headlamp’s
headband under the fastening
clips on the sides. Loosen the rear elastic
strap and reattach it to the holder
provided by pulling it over the headlamp
headband (see Figure 4).
This protective helmet is designed especially
and exclusively for use in rock
climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering.
The construction was designed to protect
the head from falling rocks, ice falls, front
and lateral impacts during a fall and falling
objects.
