DHG SWL 1515 Top Sheet
Product Information
The TopSheet is a product designed to be used together with a ceiling or mobile lift to aid in turning a user, reducing the need for heavy manual handling. It is specifically designed for incontinent, bedridden users who require frequent turning. The TopSheet can also be used to hold a heavy user in a lateral position for tasks such as personal hygiene or dressing wounds. It is suitable for use with nervous or demented users in palliative care as it provides a calm and gentle turning process while distributing the load over the entire body area.
The TopSheet comes in three different models: 1510, 1515, and 1520. The SWL (Safe Working Load) for the 1510 model is 300kg/660 lbs, while the SWL for the 1515 and 1520 models is 250kg/550 lbs. The product is compliant with IFU no: 828 rev. 14 dated 2021-09-23.
Important safety precautions include never leaving the user unattended during a transfer situation and ensuring a caregiver is present on the side towards which the user is being turned. The most recent edition of the user manual can be downloaded from the website www.directhealthcaregroup.com.
Product Usage Instructions
- Ensure you have read the user manuals for all assistive devices used during a transfer.
- Place the top sheet over the appropriate TurnSheet or mattress cover according to the model:
- For TopSheet 1520: Place it over TurnSheet 1580, 1590, or WendyLett4Way to minimize friction during turning.
- For TopSheet 1510: It can be placed directly over the mattress cover or on WendyLett. Refer to the manuals for other products used in combination with TopSheet.
- Position the user so that their hips are resting on the bottom section of the TopSheet. This facilitates sheet changes and provides easier access for cleaning and washing.
- Hook the TopSheet suspension loop above the sling bar on a mobile or ceiling lift.
- If bed rails are not used, a caregiver should stand beside the bed to ensure safety.
- Start the turn by raising the slingbar, with the caregiver who has the best view of the user operating the lift.
- Turn the user to the desired position.
- During turning, manual adjustment towards the center of the bed may be necessary to reposition the user in the center.
- Once the user is in the desired position, loosen the Velcro strip behind the user. The TopSheet will now support the user’s back, allowing the caregiver to attend to hygiene tasks.
TopSheet is used together with a ceiling or mobile lift to avoid heavy manual handling when turning a user.
TopSheet is used for incontinent, bedridden users who must be turned often. TopSheet is also an excellent aid when you need to hold a heavy user in a lateral position, for instance when assisting with personal hygiene or dressing wounds. TopSheet is also very suitable when a nervous, demented user in palliative care needs turning, as the process is calm and gentle and the load is spread over the entire body area.
Check Safety
Visual inspection
Check the condition and function of the assistive device regularly. Always
inspect the product after laundering. Check to ensure that seams and material
are free from damage. Check to ensure that fabric is not worn or faded. If
there are signs of wear, the product must be discarded.
Mechanical load
Apply pressure to buckles and handles and verify that they will not open or
break under heavy loads.
Friction test
Low friction – Ensure that the surface is smooth and slides effortlessly.
Compare with a new product.
Always read the manual
- Always read the user manuals for all assistive devices used during a transfer.
- Keep the user manual where it is accessible to users of the product.
- Always make sure that you have the right version of the user manual.
- The most recent editions of user manuals are available for download from our website, www.directhealthcaregroup.com.
Important information
Do not leave the user unattended during a transfer situation.
- To ensure safety, a caregiver should stand on the side towards which the user is being turned; alternatively, bed rails can be used. Never leave the user unattended.
- When a mobile lift is used, the slingbar should be placed directly over the suspension loop.
- Lifting at a bias may entail risk for tipping. Ensure that the lift wheels can be moved laterally under the bed.
Placement
TopSheet 1520 is placed over TurnSheet 1580, 1590 or WendyLett4Way to minimize friction during turning. TopSheet 1510, which has a low-friction fabric on the underside, can be placed directly over the mattress cover or on WendyLett. Read the manuals for other products used in combination with TopSheet.
Position the user so that his/her hips are resting on the bottom section of the TopSheet. This makes it easier to change the sheet and enables easier access for cleaning and washing.
Turning the user with TopSheet
The TopSheet suspension loop is hooked above the slingbar on a mobile or ceiing lift.
If bed rails are not used, a caregiver should stand beside the bed to ensure safety. Start turn by raising the slingbar. The caregiver with the best view of the user operates the lift. Turn the user to the desired position.
To ensure that the user is repositioned in the centre of the bed, some manual adjustment towards the centre of the bed may be necessary during turning.
Turning and hygiene
- When the user has been turned to the desired position, the Velcro strip can be loosened behind the user.
- Since the TopSheet now supports the user’s back, the caregiver is free to attend to the user’s hygiene.
Changing the bottom TopSheet section
Turn the user on one side (see instructions for turning with TopSheet). Loosen the Velcro strip on the section on which the user is lying and tuck it in as far as possible under the user. Take a new bottom section, fasten it along the Velcro strip, and tuck it under the user as far as possible. Turn the user back on to his/her back, move the lift to the other side, and turn the user in the opposite direction. Remove the bottom section that is to be replaced. Pull the Velcro strip out and fasten the new bottom section to it.
