INSTALLATION
BRACKETS
When installing brackets, measure from a fixed point on the truck on both the
passenger and driver side of the bed to be certain the brackets are in
identical locations and perpendicular to the length of the bed.
T-Bolt Style for Track Rails
Insert the 3/8 Carriage Bolt into the backing plate then slide into the Track
Rail.
Place Bracket in location and pass 3/8 bolts through the brackets slots. Be
sure the t-plate is contacting both sides of the track rail. The t-plate is
allowed to rotate until it contacts both sides of the track rail.
Note: It is sometimes easier to place a flathead screwdriver behind the
carriage bolt and t-plate to keep contact.
Install larger 3/8 flat washer over the .8 carriage bolts, and hand tighten
the nylon locking 3/8 nuts. Be sure the bracket is flat and sitting on the top
of the truck bed side.
Hold bracket down and tighten 3/8 locking nuts to 20-25 ft*lbs using a 9/16 socket. You can now skip to Crossbar Installation Section
Universal Clamp Style for Non-Track Rails
Insert the 3/8 Carriage Bolt into the backing plate then be certain the long
leg of the clamp is on the bottom.
Place Bracket in location and pass 3/8 bolts though the brackets slots.
Install larger 3/8 flat washer over the .8 carriage bolts, and hand tighten the nylon locking 3/8 nuts. Be sure the bracket is flat and sitting on the top of the truck bed side.
NOTE: It is easier to tighten the rightmost nut first while looking at
the bracket from the inside of the truck bed. This will allow the other side
of the clamp to rotate upwards rather than down into your hands!
Hold bracket down and tighten 3/8 locking nuts to 20-25 ft*lbs using a 9/16
socket. Periodically check tightness. You can now skip to Crossbar
Installation Section.
Crossbars
Once brackets are installed – Place your crossbars in the cradles.
Note – some full-size trucks will have a long bar and a short bar, due to
a tapered bed. The short bar is typically in the rear of the truck. If the bar
seems too short, move the brackets forward or backwards along the length of
the bed until the bar is within 1/8 inch of gap in the bracket,
overall.
Use the M8 security screws next, place the lock washer over the bolt, then the flat washer.
Hand start threads into the end of the crossbars.
Tighten bolts using T40 security bit.
Tighten M8 Security Screws to 15-20 ft*lbs using a T40 Security bit (Other bits are available on our website!). Periodically check tightness.
USE GUIDELINES
We encourage safe usage of all our products we have tested and designed for real-life use. This being said, there are always outside factors we can’t always account for and comprehend.
- Only use racks that were designed for your specific vehicle.
- Be certain all knobs, bolts, screws and nuts are firmly tightened and torqued before every driving event. These should be periodically inspected for tightness and any other stress or signs of fatigue.
- The maximum loads should never be exceeded. Weight ratings are 400lbs dynamic and 800lbs static max distributed load for the 5 and 8 inch high racks. The weight rating our retractable covers with integrated t-slot racks are way higher than the actual covers can handle. Please refer to your cover manufacturers’ suggested loads. These loads are always calculated by the entirety of the accessories mounted. For example, any mounting brackets would be added to the load being carried. The maximum weight rating will also be determined by the truck manufacturers’ recommended load rating and should never be exceeded by our ratings.
- High speed off-road driving has not officially been tested with our racks.
- It is the user’s responsibility to ensure all loads are attached firmly and safely. All local and state laws should be followed when loading your vehicle.
