Gas BBQ, Endeavour 6+1 burner
Read the user manual carefully to make sure that the product is assembled, used and maintained correctly, as described in the instructions in this user manual. Keep the user manual for future reference.

USE

  • Please read these instructions before use.
  • The barbecue is only intended for private use.
  • Only for outdoor use.
  • Do not move the appliance while it is in use.
  •  Only use LPG as fuel.
  • Turn off the gas supply at the gas container after use.
  • Do not modify the appliance.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  • Only use the barbecue outdoors.

  • Use only LPG for the barbecue. Do not use coal, briquettes or other gas.

  • The barbecue may not be used in enclosed spaces due to the risk of asphyxia.

  • Do not use lava stones. The barbecue is equipped with a heat distributor to provide even heat distribution.

  • Never use igniters such as lighter fluid with a gas barbecue.

  • Make sure that flammable gases, liquids (such as petrol or alcohol) and other flammable materials are placed at a safe distance from the barbecue.

  • WARNING! Accessible parts can get very hot. Do not allow children to get close.

  • The barbecue is only intended for cooking food. Never use the barbecue for any other purpose than its intended use,
    for example, as a heat source or for heating objects.

  • When replacing the gas cylinder, keep the cylinder away from ignition sources.

  • In the event of a gas leak, turn off the gas supply.

  • Parts sealed by the manufacturer or its agent must not be tampered with by users.

  • Do not move the barbecue when it is lit or hot – wait until it has cooled down.

  • Always place the barbecue and gas cylinder on a flat surface when the barbecue is in use.

  • The barbecue becomes hot when lit. Keep children and pets at a safe distance.

  • Never leave a lit or hot barbecue unattended.

  • The barbecue is not intended to be used by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or with a lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are supervised or are given instructions on how to use the barbecue by a person who is responsible for their safety. Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the barbecue.

  • WARNING! Meat with a high fat content may cause flare-ups.

  • You must regularly clean the barbecue of any fat/oil. If you
    do not, there is a high risk of the fat starting to burn. If the fat starts to burn, you must switch off all the burners, turn the gas off and leave the lid closed until the fire is extinguished.

  • Use barbecue gloves and barbecue utensils to avoid burns when barbecuing.

  • Allow the barbecue to cool down before cleaning it.

  • The hose and regulator must be tested for leaks before you start barbecuing. See the section “CHECKING FOR LEAKS” (see page 5).

  • Worn or damaged hoses must be replaced immediately.
    We recommend that the regulator kit be replaced every two years to ensure that the hose is in good condition.

  • Using the incorrect regulator or hose is dangerous and can cause injuries.

  • The barbecue and gas cylinder must be connected to a CE-approved regulator and hose with a correct operating pressure.

  • The barbecue may only be used together with an approved regulator kit, which must comply with the most recent version of SS-EN-16129 and national regulations.

  • The maximum length of the hose is 1.5 metres. Worn or damaged hoses must be replaced immediately.
    WARNING!
    If these instructions are not followed, an accident may lead to serious personal injury or property damage.

GAS CYLINDER

  • Maximum size of gas cylinder of H: 800 x B: 350 mm.
  • The gas cylinder must not be dropped or handled carelessly.
  • If the barbecue is not going to be used, the gas cylinder must be disconnected and the safety cap refitted.
  • The gas cylinder must never be placed in locations where it is exposed to temperatures over 50°C. Therefore do not place the gas cylinder directly under the barbecue. The gas cylinder must not be placed or stored in locations where there is a risk of fire or sparks, for example.
  •  Do not smoke in the immediate vicinity of the gas cylinder.
  • It is prohibited to make your own modifications to the gas cylinder. This can have fatal consequences.

CONNECTING THE GAS CYLINDER TO THE BARBECUE

  • Make sure that the gas cylinder’s valve is turned off.
  • Connect the regulator to the gas cylinder’s valve.
  • Connect the hose to the barbecue’s nipple.
  • Check that the hose is not clogged, knotted or lying against any part of the barbecue other than the nipple.
  • Check for leaks in the gas cylinder, regulator, hose and barbecue before starting to barbecue. See the section “CHECKING FOR LEAKS”.

CHECKING FOR LEAKS

  • Mix 50% soap with 50% water. Check that the gas valve on the gas cylinder is closed and that the knob on the barbecue is turned off.
  • Apply the soap solution onto the gas cylinder’s valve, regulator, hose and connector to the barbecue.
  • Open the gas valve on the gas cylinder. If there are small bubbles in any of the parts mentioned above, there is a leak.
  •  Close the gas valve and tighten the hose connectors. Perform the test again! If there is still a leak, contact your Rusta store.

BURNERS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION

  • Why is there no seal between the burner and valve?
    Answer: In order for the gas to get the right combustion at the burner, it must be mixed with oxygen. This happens in the joint between the valve and the burner. The joint must not be sealed. If you do, the combustion will deteriorate.

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Open the hood and make sure all the burners are in the off position.
  2. Connect the regulator to the gas cylinder. Open the gas cylinder’s valve to release the gas.
  3. Press any of the knobs with a lightning symbol on the barbecue and turn anticlockwise towards the HI position. This releases the gas and generates a spark.
  4. If the burner does not light within 5 seconds, turn the knob to the closed position and close the valve on the gas cylinder. Wait 3 minutes, and then redo steps 2 and 3.
  5. Once the barbecue is lit, repeat steps 2 and 3 for the barbecue’s other main burners.
  6. Close the lid of the barbecue and allow it to reach the desired temperature.
  7. Turn the knob between HI and LO to adjust the heat.
  8. To switch it off, turn the gas cylinder’s valve to the closed position and then turn the knob on the barbecue clockwise to the closed position.

SIDE BURNER LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
Open the lid, press and turn the side burner knob anticlockwise towards the HI position. Then press the ignitor at the right side of the control board until the side burner is ignited, continue to press and hold for another 5 seconds to ensure the burner stays lit.

CARE AND CLEANING

  • Allow the barbecue and all parts to cool fully before cleaning them.
  • Check to make sure the fuel supply from the LPG cylinder has been turned off.
  •  The grease/oils that collect in the bottom of the barbecue, the drip plate and heat distributors must be cleaned from the barbecue regularly, otherwise there is a significant risk of the fat catching fire.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the barbecue and the drip plate thoroughly and regularly.
  • If the barbecue is used in especially corrosive environments, for example, by the sea, it is even more important to clean the barbecue often. Salt and moisture will break down the protective outer layer of the barbecue, which can result in surface rust.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR OF THE BARBECUE

  • Wash the outside of the barbecue with a soft sponge, a mild detergent and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • If the painted steel is scratched or damaged and has started to rust, brush the surface with a steel brush, scrape it and then paint with anti-rust primer. This should be done as soon as the damage is discovered, as scratches in the paint make the barbecue more susceptible to rust.

CLEANING THE INTERIOR OF THE BARBECUE

  • Remove the barbecue grille.
  • Wash the barbecue with a mild detergent and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry. Do not use an abrasive cleaner or oven cleaner.

CLEANING THE BURNERS

  • Remove the barbecue grille.
  • Clean the burners with a soft brush or blow it clean with compressed air. Wipe with a cloth.
  • Carefully clean the clogged openings with pipe cleaners and stiff wire (e.g. an open paper clip).
  •  Check that there is no damage to the burners (cracks or holes). Replace the burner if you discover any damage.
  • Refit the burners and check to make sure that the gas valves’ mouth pieces are firmly in the correct position in the burner pipe.
  • Check the burner’s flames. A good flame should be blue with yellow at the top.
    A yellow and irregular flame indicates that oil residues and food deposits may be accumulating on the burner. Try to clean the surface and holes of the burner to get a better flame. A poor flame can also be caused by a poor gas valve.

CLEANING THE BARBECUE GRILLE

  • Do not use sharp objects to clean the barbecue grille, as they may damage the surface.
  • It is not necessary to clean the barbecue grille after each use. Allow the barbecue to burn at maximum power for about 5 minutes after finishing barbecuing and then remove any residues with a brush. Then wipe with paper towels.
  • However, the barbecue grille should occasionally be cleaned more thoroughly. Use a mild detergent and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry.
  • Before barbecuing, you can oil the barbecue grille with cooking oil so that food does not get stuck during cooking.

CLEANING THE DRIP PLATE
When barbecuing, grease accumulates on the drip plate. Therefore, the drip plate should be cleaned regularly, preferably after each barbecuing. If the drip plate is not cleaned regularly, the grease may ignite and cause a fire during barbecuing.

INFORMATION ON STAINLESS STEEL

A common misconception about stainless steel is that it cannot oxidise, which is inaccurate. All steel can oxidise if the conditions for oxidation are right. Stainless steel, on the other hand, has a higher resistance against oxidisation than non-stainless steel. This means that even stainless steel must be maintained to prevent oxidation and other corrosion. It is normal for the barbecue to suffer from so-called red oxide if it is not maintained properly. This is normal and is not grounds for complaint.

CLEANING STAINLESS STEEL

  • Start by wiping the surface with a damp cloth and a mild soap. The surface must be clean and free of dirt and grease. Wipe with a dry cloth.
  • If the barbecue has any surface rust, you can use a light polish, Autosol, on a cloth and polish the surface until the rust disappears. Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
  • To protect the surface, spray on a thin layer of 5-56 or WD-40, two universal agents that dissolve red oxide and protect against moisture. Apply the product with a cloth so that you have an even coat.
    NOTE! These products must not come into contact with the barbecue’s painted surfaces or surfaces that come into contact with food.

STORAGE

  • When the barbecue is not in use, protect it from rain and contaminants under a barbecue cover. This prevents surface rust and stops it from getting dirty.
  • For long-term storage, such as during the winter, first clean and wipe the barbecue carefully and then store it under a barbecue cover in a dry, dust-free environment.
  • The gas cylinder must always be closed when the barbecue is not in use and disconnected before the barbecue put into storage.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTIONS
The burner will not light. The valve on the gas cylinder is closed. Open the

valve on the gas cylinder.
The gas cylinder is almost empty or empty.| Refill the gas cylinder.
There are no sparks coming from the pin alongside the burner for ignition.| Check that the cables to the pin are correctly connected.

Check that the pin alongside the burner

is about 2–3 mm from the edge of the burner and is directed towards the burner. If the pin is too far from the burner, there will be no spark for

ignition. If the pin is too close to the burner,

the spark may be too small for ignitron.

The burner or valves are blocked by fat, dirt or insect netting.| Clean the burner and valves with compressed air and pipe cleaners.

Check that the holes in the edge of the burner are not blocked by fat.

The temperature of the barbecue is low.| Too short warm-up time.| Close the lid and turn the knob to “high”.
The gas is blocked.| Check that there are no leaks. See the section entitled “CHECKING FOR LEAKS”.

Check that the rubber washer on the gas cylinder is intact.

Check that there are no kinks in the gas hose. Clean the burners.

It is windy.| Shelter the barbecue from the wind.
The temperature of the barbecue is uneven.| The burner or valves are blocked by fat, dirt or insect netting.| Clean the burner and valves with compressed air and pipe cleaners.

Check that the hole in the edge of the burner is not blocked by fat.

Intense flare- ups.| Fatty food is being barbecued.| When barbecuing fatty meat or marinated meat, flare-ups can occur.

Remove some of the fat and marinade from the meat before barbecuing.

Old fat.| The barbecue must be continually cleaned, see the section “CARE AND CLEANING”.

If you do not clean the barbecue continually, fat will build up that can burst into uncontrolled flames.
