BRITA Electronic Cartridge Exchange Indicator

Product Information

The Electronic Cartridge Exchange Indicator is a device used to track the usage and lifespan of a cartridge in a product. It has a display that shows the remaining time since the cartridge was inserted, and it also provides audible signals to alert when the cartridge needs to be replaced. The indicator is powered by AA batteries.

Disposal

At the end of the lifetime of the BRITA electronic cartridge exchange indicator, it must be disposed of according to local applicable regulations and statutory requirements for electric/electronic waste. The batteries must be disposed of separately according to local regulations.

Warning

This product contains hazardous AA batteries. Keep them out of reach of children at all times. If a battery is swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical help. If the person shows signs of serious illness, such as vomiting or loss of consciousness, call emergency services or take them to the nearest A&E department.

Product Usage Instructions

Programming

  1. Press and hold the DISPLAY button, then press the START/RESET button briefly at the same time to activate the setting mode.
  2. To switch from 90 days to 360 days, briefly press the DISPLAY button.
  3. Wait until the time value stops flashing or the DISPLAY switches off.
  4. To activate the 360-day timer, briefly press DISPLAY and then press the START/RESET button. A flashing spot in the bottom left of the display indicates that the timer is active.

Reading the Timer Status

Press the DISPLAY button briefly during operation to activate the display. The remaining time since the new cartridge was inserted will be shown in days. If the time is exceeded, it will be displayed with a minus sign.

Audible Signals

A long signal sounds on the hour every hour as a signal to replace the cartridge.

Changing the Batteries

  1. After changing the batteries, a long beep will sound.
  2. After the beep, briefly press the DISPLAY button to activate the display. The remaining days since the last reset will be displayed.
  3. Note: This can only be done within 16 hours after the batteries are fully depleted. After this time, the device reverts back to the factory setting and must be reprogrammed.

Resetting

  1. Press the DISPLAY button briefly to activate the display.
  2. Press and hold the START/RESET button for 5 seconds until a long beep sounds.
  3. The last 360 programmed days will appear in the display.
  4. The timer starts automatically.

Programming

A. Commissioning
Please insert the enclosed batteries (2 x AA) into the appropriate compartment of the electronic cartridge exchange indicator with display. A long beep will sound after insertion of the batteries.

B. Initial Programming
Important: Please set the timer on your product for 360 days.
Caution: Please ensure that you activate the electronic BRITA cartridge exchange indicator with display so that the signal can start during the day.

Programming

  • a) Press the DISPLAY button briefly to activate the display. Initially, the default setting of 90 days is displayed.
  • b) Press and hold the DISPLAY button and then press the START/RESET button briefly at the same time. This activates the setting mode.
  • c) To switch from 90 days to 360 days, press the DISPLAY button briefly.
  • d) Wait until the time value stops flashing or the DISPLAY switches off.
  • e) To activate the 360-day timer, briefly press DISPLAY and then press the START/RESET button.
  • f) A flashing spot in the bottom left of the display indicates that the timer is active.

C. Reading the timer status
The display is activated by pressing the DISPLAY button briefly during operation. The remaining time since the new cartridge was inserted is shown in days.
If the time is exceeded, the time is displayed with a minus sign.

D. Audible signals

  • a) Signal to replace the cartridge: a long signal sounds on the hour every hour when there are less than 10 days before the end of the programmed 360 day setting (15 double beeps). A shorter reminder (5 double beeps) then sounds every 15 minutes until the next signal.
  • b) Reminder function: press any button to deactivate the signal for 72 hours if you prefer to be reminded to replace the cartridge at a later date.
  • c) Battery signal: when the batteries are depleted, a long signal sounds (15 single beeps) followed by a short reminder signal (5 single beeps) every 15 minutes until the next signal on the hour.
  • d) Switching the device off: this is only possible by removing the batteries from the battery compartment.

E. Activating the reset function when replacing the cartridge

  • a) Press the DISPLAY button briefly to activate the display.
  • b) Press and hold the START/RESET button for 5 seconds until a long beep sounds.
  • c) The last 360 programmed days appear in the display.
  • d) The timer starts automatically.

F. Installation
You can attach the electronic cartridge exchange indicator to an appropriate and dry place by using the supplied hook and loop fastener. We recommend installing it under the sink. Avoid contact with water/splashes!

Changing the batteries in the electronic cartridge exchange indicator

  • a) After changing the batteries, a long beep sounds.
  • b) After the beep, briefly press the DISPLAY button to activate the display.
  • c) The remaining days since the last reset are now displayed.
    (Caution: only possible up to 16 hours after the batteries are fully depleted. After this time, the device reverts back to the factory setting and must be reprogrammed (see point B).

  • a) Press the DISPLAY button briefly to activate the display.
  • b) Press and hold the START/RESET button for 5 seconds until a long beep sounds.
  • c) The last 360 programmed days appear in the display.
  • d) The timer starts automatically.

Correct disposal

At the end of the lifetime of the BRITA electronic cartridge exchange indicator it must be disposed of according to the local applicable regulations and statutory requirements. It has to be disposed as electric/electronic waste. The contained batteries must be disposed separately according to local applicable regulations and statutory requirements.

The marking of the crossed-out dust bin on the product, product packaging, accessories and/or the product documentation indicates that the electronic parts such as the Life Time Indicator and batteries should not be disposed of with other household waste. Please dispose of these parts of the product separately. Exhausted batteries, that are not incorporated in the product or which can be removed non-destructively from the product, should be disposed of in your local collection points for batteries. Distributors of electrical or electronic equipment, including food retailers, distance sellers and mail order companies are legally obliged to take back old electronic/electric equipment free of charge if the distributor exceeds a certain size of sales, storage or shipping area, when buying a new device from the distributor. The same criteria applies it is a small electronic/electric device that does not exceed certain dimensions. Further information and details on these take-back options and obligations can be obtained from the respective distributor. End users, including private users, should contact their public waste management authority to find out where they can return the old electronic/electric devices or exhausted batteries for environmentally friendly disposal. Commercial end users have additional manufacturer-specific options for return, which they can inquire about directly with the manufacturer. AA batteries are hazardous and must be kept out of reach of children at all times, whether the battery is new or used. These batteries can cause severe or fatal injuries in 2 hours or less if swallowed or placed inside any part of the body. If it is suspected a AA battery has been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, get medical help immediately. If the person does not appear to be seriously ill, call NHS 111 for advice. If they are showing signs of being seriously ill, such as vomiting, loss of consciousness, drowsiness or seizures, request an ambulance or take the person to your local A&E department.

Specifications

  • To avoid loss of data, change the battery within 12 hours.
  • After 16 hours without power, the appliance switches back to its factory settings.
