Rebate details
Public Service Company of Colorado’s (“Xcel Energy”) Electric Vehicle (“EV”)
Charger and Wiring Rebate program (“Program”) is available to qualifying Xcel
Energy electric customers who (1) enroll in Xcel Energy’s Optimize Your Charge
Program and either purchase a new Level 2 EV charger that draws
50 amps or less (an “Eligible EV Charger”) or are enrolled in Xcel Energy’s
EV Accelerate At Home Program to have Xcel Energy provide, install, and
maintain an Xcel Energy-owned Eligible EV Charger, and/or (2) have a licensed
electrician install Premises Wiring necessary to connect and use the Eligible
EV Charger at the customer’s home.
Under the Program, qualifying customers may apply to receive a maximum rebate
of up to $500 (“Standard Rebate”) to offset the applicant’s costs of
installing the Premises Wiring needed to supply electricity to the Eligible
EV Charger at the applicant’s home and the cost to purchase an Eligible EV
Charger for customers who purchase an Eligible EV Charger. Customers
who enroll in Xcel Energy’s EV Accelerate At Home Program will receive the
Standard Rebate only to offset the applicant’s cost of installing the Premises
Wiring and not toward the monthly charges associated with participating in
Xcel Energy’s EV Accelerate At Home Program.
Income-Qualified customers may apply to receive a flat enhanced rebate of $1,300 (“Enhanced Rebate”) to offset all or a portion of the customer’s costs of installing the Premises Wiring needed to supply electricity to an Eligible EV Charger at the applicant’s home, and/or the cost to purchase an Eligible EV Charger for customers who purchase an Eligible EV Charger. Income-Qualified customers participating in Xcel Energy’s EV Accelerate At Home Program may still receive the Enhanced Rebate even if the cost of installing the Premises Wiring is less than the amount of the Enhanced Rebate.
The Standard Rebate and Enhanced Rebate may be referred to in these EV Charger
and Wiring Rebate Terms and Conditions as “Rebates” or the “Rebate.”
Rebates are not guaranteed until Xcel Energy has reviewed and approved the
Program application.
“Premises Wiring” means a dedicated 240V AC circuit that supplies electricity
directly to the installed Eligible EV Charger that draws 50 amps or less. This
includes the protective breaker at the supply panel, wiring, final junction
box, receptacle and all attachments and connections. The applicant is wholly
responsible for the Premise’s Wiring, including that it meets all workmanship
standards and applicable requirements in the National Electric Code, Colorado
law, and local municipal codes.
The Program is subject to the terms and conditions contained in this application. Rebate amounts and Program terms are subject to change at any time. Funding for the Program is limited and available to qualifying Xcel Energy customers on a first-come, first-served basis and is effective until funding is expended or the Program is discontinued.
Additional Program details, rules, and requirements can be found on Xcel Energy’s website.

How to Apply for Rebates
If you are using your own Eligible EV Charger and are not enrolling in EV Accelerate At Home:
-
Purchase an Eligible EV Charger.
-
Ensure you have been accepted in Xcel Energy’s Optimize Your Charge program.
-
Fill out the Program application, either digitally on Xcel Energy’s website or by downloading and printing an application form, and submit the application along with (a) your paid invoices or receipts covering the installation of Premises Wiring and/or the Eligible EV Charger (for applicants who are not enrolling in Xcel Energy’s EV Accelerate At Home Program, the Standard Rebate can help offset the cost of the Eligible EV Charger), (b) proof that a licensed electrician performed the work to install the Premises Wiring, if applicable, and (c) if applicant rents the home where the Premises Wiring will be installed, evidence showing written permission from the homeowner or landlord for the applicant to install Premises Wiring and the Eligible EV Charger.
-
If the applicant is Income-Qualified and is requesting the Enhanced Rebate of
$1,300, following submission of the application, the applicant will be required to work with Xcel Energy’s income verification partner to demonstrate and verify the applicant’s income eligibility for the Enhanced Rebate. -
Once the completed application is submitted and the applicant has been verified as Income-Qualified, if applicable, Rebate payments are usually made within 6 to 8 weeks after the application has been processed and approved by Xcel Energy.
If you are enrolling in EV Accelerate At Home and Xcel Energy is providing your Eligible EV Charger:
-
Enroll in EV Accelerate At Home through Xcel Energy’s website (you will be asked to select an Eligible EV Charger and provide information about your property and current electrical wiring).
-
Ensure you have been accepted into Xcel Energy’s Optimize Your Charge program.
-
If you are participating in the EV Accelerate At Home Program, there are two ways you can receive the Rebate. You can either:
a. Hire a licensed electrician to install the Premise’s Wiring and then apply directly to Xcel Energy for the Rebate. Fill out the Program application and submit the application along with (a) your paid invoices or receipts covering the installation of Premises Wiring, (b) proof that a licensed electrician performed the work, and (c) if you rent the home where the Premises Wiring will be installed, evidence showing written permission from the homeowner or landlord for you to install Premises Wiring and the Eligible EV Charger; or
b. Hire the Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home electrician to install the Premises Wiring at the same time the electrician installs the Eligible EV Charger as part of the EV Accelerate At Home Program, and have the electrician reduce the costs of the Premises Wiring installation (up to the amount of the Rebate) so that you will pay less out-of-pocket at the time the Premises Wiring work is performed. If you elect to receive all or a portion of your Rebate directly from the Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home electrician at the time of installation, ensure you have indicated your acceptance of this option by checking the relevant box on the application form that states that you are assigning your right to receive all or a portion of the Rebate to the Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home Program electrician in exchange for a reduction in your Premises Wiring installation cost. At the time of installation, make sure that you provide the rebate application to the electrician when the electrician is on-site to install the Eligible EV Charger. The Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home Program electrician will submit the documentation required to support the Rebate application to Xcel Energy, and the electrician will deduct the amount of the Rebate from the Premises Wiring installation costs, providing you with an instant rebate. -
Income-Qualified customers who are applying for an Enhanced Rebate should allow up to 12 business days after Xcel Energy receives the application and all necessary documentation for Xcel Energy’s income verification partner to process the Income-Qualified portion of the application. Xcel Energy’s income verification partner will contact you directly about the information required to determine your income eligibility for the Enhanced Rebate. You will be notified via email, phone, and/or other method about your Income-Qualified status. If you wish to receive all or a portion of your Rebate directly from the Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home electrician as described above, and you have applied for the Enhanced Rebate, please wait to schedule your EV Accelerate At Home Eligible Charger installation until you have been verified as Income-Qualified.
-
If you will receive all or a portion of your Rebate directly from the Xcel Energy EV Accelerate At Home electrician as described above, you will receive a portion of your Rebate instantly at the time of installation of the Premises Wiring as a reduction to your installation cost, and any remaining Rebate amount above the cost of the Premises Wiring will be provided to you within 6 to 8 weeks after installation is complete. If you elect to hire your own electrician to install the Premises Wiring and then receive the Rebate after installation, your Rebate will be provided to you within 6 to 8 weeks after your application is received, approved, and processed by Xcel Energy. If the Rebate amount due and payable to you by check totals $600 or more, you will be required to provide a W-9 to Xcel Energy’s income verification partner prior to receiving the check.
Incomplete applications submitted via mail will be rejected and returned. Complete applications must be submitted or postmarked no later than September 30th of the year following the later of (1) the completed installation of the Premises Wiring; or (2) the purchase date of the Eligible EV Charger.
You must submit a complete application and all required documents listed to be eligible for the Rebates. Please avoid submitting duplicate applications.

At the time of unenrollment from the Optimize Your Charge Program, Xcel Energy will notify the applicant via email of the amount of the Early Withdrawal Fee. The Early Withdrawal Fee will be added to the applicant’s subsequent electric bill or bills, as determined by Xcel Energy, and the applicant will be required to pay the additional amounts billed. The date of the email from Xcel Energy which conveys the amount of the Early Withdrawal Fee to the applicant shall be the “Withdrawal Date.” The Early Withdrawal Fee will be calculated as follows: (1 – (# of days enrolled in Optimize Your Charge Program (assessed from the date of the Rebate was issued by Xcel Energy to the Withdrawal Date)/365 days)) times the Rebate amount.
The Early Withdrawal Fee will not be assessed to Income-Qualified customers who decide to opt out of the Optimize Your Charge Program. Frequently Asked Questions
Can it be set to automatically delay restarting .after power outage, or will it immediately testart the instant power comes back on?
I have not tried but did not see anything regarding power outages on the app. We have not had a power outage since installing. You may want to reach out to the Company’s tech support.
How long is the power cord? For the plug-in version
The power cord is about a foot long.
Will this work on a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe?
The charger comes with a J2772 plug which is standard on American vehicles. It should work for the Cherokee. There are adapters available.
Can you remotely lock it with an app so that no one can charge until you use the app to unlock it?
Once you download the app for your juice box only you can control it on your app on your phone or iPad. If it’s outside your house and not in your garage you can lock it so nobody can rip it off. I’ve had mine for about four months and it works fine. I have a Ionic5 and I use the juice box for.
Which juice box charger is best for my bmw i3?
The higher the amps, the faster the charge, but the higher amp charger requires a higher amp circuit breaker and wiring. A 32 amp charger requires a 40 amp circuit and a 40 amp charger requires a 50 amp circuit. If you already have an available 240-volt plug in your garage wired for 40 amps, then it would be less expensive to get the 32-amp charger than to pay an electrician to upgrade to a 50-amp circuit. I had to get a 240-volt plug installed in my garage so I went with the 50-amp circuit and got a 40-amp charger.
Can I change the charging rate while it is charging?
Yes. You can adjust the amps while charging by going into Settings > Device Settings > Charging Maximum Rate (A) and then Save.
Would this work with Porsche Taycan?
Yes. Your Porsche Taycan can use both J1772 and CCS plugs. This comes with a J1772 plug. Your car can charge at up to 9.6 kilowatts (KW), so you will want the 40 amp model to get the fastest charge your car can take. (40 amps x 240 volts = 9,600 watts, aka 9.6 kilowatts)
Does this work with a 5g network?
My model does not work with 5G network. Don’t know if newer models work with 5G. You need to research specific models for that capability.
Does it work well being in direct sunlight? The Ford charger I have now overheats and does not work.
I will tell you this much, mine is in the Garage, with temperatures recently in the 90's and just driving into the garage, if you do not let the engine cool before plug in the charger, with the heat outside and the hot engine, what will happen, the fan on the engine will kick in due to the heat outside, engine heat and the heat you putting on the battery, but it's not Juice Box that is the problem, it's excessive heat that you are generating.
Can the cable holder be mounted separately on the wall? I want to mount it on the side of the charger instead of the bottom.
No. Not without building a separate hook assembly, but it would be easy to just buy a separate wall-mounted hook at Lowe’s or Home Depot and hang the charge wire on it.
Will this work on my 2022 bmw x5 45e plug in hybrid?
Yes, the Juicebox has the J1772 connector that BMWs have also. I have a BMW i3 that works well.
