- Install the replacement cell vertically.
Cleaning Instructions
To clean your cell, follow these steps:
- Turn off the pool pump and remove the cell from the plumbing.
- Use a high-pressure hose to rinse off any debris from the cell.
- Soak the cell in a cleaning solution for at least 30 minutes.
- Rinse the cell with water and re-install it.
Menu Settings
New menu settings may be required for installation. Please refer to your Hayward pool system manual for instructions on adjusting menu settings.
INSTALLATION
The length of time your pump and filter are running each day will determine
the amount of chlorine your cell will generate. Remember to adjust the output
level of chlorine on your generator to compensate for an increase or decrease
in daily run time on your pump and filter. This will help prevent over/under
chlorination of your pool water
Example: If you double the run time on your pump and filter system then
reduce your chlorination setting by half to offset it. If you triple your pump
and filter run time, then reduce your chlorination settings by a factor of
three to offset it. If you need to reduce your pump and filter run time, then
increase your chlorination settings appropriately.
CHECK CHLORINE LEVELS
It is crucial to check your chlorine levels at least once a week during the height of swimming season. Your chlorine level should be within 1 3 ppm. After you make any chlorination settings, make sure to closely monitor the chlorine levels in the water for 2 weeks to ensure you are within this range.
LOW FLOW RATE
If you are using a variable speed pump or two speed pump, make sure to check your salt cell is receiving sufficient flow. The cell plates are located in the hump of the cell so as a precautionary measure, the replacement cell can be installed vertically or inverted to ensure it is always filled with water .
CLEANING YOUR CELL
Maximize the life of your cell through regular maintenance. A clean cell will extend its life as well as producing adequate chlorine output. Failure in doing so can result in issues such as overheating and physical damage to the cell. You know it is time to clean your cell when scale on cell blades is thick enough that it touches each other between blades. Cells can be cleaned using commercial and pool grade cell cleaning solutions. Remove the cell from the housing and follow instructions on cell cleaning solution. Alternatively, a mix of 1 part hydrochloric acid and 4 parts water in a container can be used to clean the cell. The cell should take no longer than a few minutes to clean.
NOTE: New menu settings may be required for installation
The Aqua Coastal replacement cell is designed to match the performance of the
Hayward TurboCell® Salt Chlorination Replacement Cell. If you are replacing an
existing cell, no re configuration is necessary. If you are installing this
cell on a new salt generator, you might need to re configure the generator.
Failing to re configure your unit may result in system shutdown, inaccurate
salt readings, and/or inadequate operation.
