FAQs

How effective are door alarms?****

Door alarms can be very effective home security devices, alerting you if someone opens, or tries to open, the doors in your home. What you might not know is that home burglars often come in through the front door – the most obvious entry point into the home.

How close do door alarm sensors need to be?****

Install the sensor and magnet and make sure that they are within the required 2.5 cm maximum detection gap. Open your door or window to confirm that the Contact Sensor detects when the door or window is opened and closed.

Should I put an alarm sensor on every window?****

No, you don’t need a window sensor on every window. You’ll want to put them on ground-floor windows and those that you believe an intruder could access. You should also put them on any windows you want to monitor in case someone inside the house (like an adventurous teen) tries to slip out.

How do window alarms work?****

A door and window alarm sensor works by using a sensor and a magnet. The sensor is placed on or inside the door or window frame. The magnet is placed on or inside the door or window itself. When the door or window is opened, the magnet will separate from the sensor, causing it to activate.

Where do you put a door window sensor?****

A door and window sensor works best when you mount it on a flat surface with the magnet on an adjacent surface: one half on the door/window and the other half on the door/window’s frame. It usually doesn’t matter which half goes where—as long as the two halves are near each other (within an inch or two).

Do window alarms have batteries?****

The batteries used in your door sensors can last for years after installation depending on use, but like all batteries, there is a set lifetime and will have to be replaced.

Do window sensors need batteries?****

If you have received a Door or Window sensor Low Battery message on your panel, you will need to replace the battery promptly to ensure the device continues to function properly. Information to order replacements can be found in our article, How to Order Replacement Batteries.

What can trigger a window alarm?****

Unlocked or loose doors and windows: Door and window sensors are activated when the connection between the two sensors is disrupted. If a door or window is loose, it can easily be rattled by the wind and trigger an alarm.

What is the purpose of a window sensor?****

The Window Sensor detects and reports the opening and closing of doors and windows and monitors temperature. The functionalities of the window sensor make it ideal for home care, automatic lighting, access control, and home security solutions.

What are the disadvantages of door security alarms?****

Slightly more expensive than ionization alarms. Nuisance alarms can occasionally occur from dust and insects. They must be kept clean.

Why does the window alarm keep beeping?****

Check your batteries. Most systems continuously beep to alert you that batteries need to be changed. This is true for both security panels and detectors. Go through your home, and test all batteries associated with your security system using a battery tester.

Are window sensors waterproof?****

Indoor sensors should never be mounted outdoors because they lack weatherproofing and will fail from the elements.

The 120DB Window and Door Entrance Alarm are very easy to install. Simply remove the battery tab, place the alarm in the desired location, and press it against the window or door. It will stick to any surface with a powerful suction cup.

How do I arm and disarm the 120DB Window and Door Entrance Alarm?

To arm or disarm the 120DB Window and Door Entrance Alarm, simply slide the switch on top of the alarm from left to right
