Product Information

The Artograph Flare 450 is a portable projector that can project images and videos onto a wall or screen. It has a built-in battery and can be charged using a charging cable that comes with the device. The Flare 450 has a main menu that can be navigated using buttons on the top of the projector or on the included remote control. It also has built-in grids that can be overlaid onto projected images for easy reference when drawing or painting.

Product Usage

Step 1: Powering on the device

To power on the Flare 450, use the switch on the left side of the projector. Once turned on, set up the device so that the lens is facing a wall. After a few seconds, the Artograph logo should appear, indicating that the projector is starting correctly. If the logo does not appear, charge the battery using the charging cable.

Step 2: Navigating the main menu

The main menu will replace the Artograph logo after a few seconds. To navigate the main menu, use either the arrows on top of the projector or on the remote control. Use the focusing wheel to adjust for clarity if necessary. To select an icon, press the OK button on either the top of the projector or on the remote control. The remote control must be pointed at the receiver on the back of the projector to function properly.

Step 3: Loading files to the Flare 450

The Flare 450 can load files using a USB drive, HDMI cable, or TF-Card. For USB and TF-Card inputs, select the appropriate icon in the main menu and then select the file you want to project. Video files must be in MP4 or AVI format, while still images must be in JPG/JPEG or GIF format. If your file is not appearing, please refer to section 6 of the quick start guide for troubleshooting. To dismiss the toolbar, press the return button on the remote or on the top of the projector.

Step 4: Accessing the grid overlays

To access the built-in grids, press the GRID button on the remote control or the file icon on the top of the projector. Once the grid dialog box appears, you can change between different grids by pressing the left or right arrows on the remote control or on the top of the projector.

Step 5: Using the keystone feature

The keystone feature allows you to adjust the projection angle of the Flare 450. To use this feature, select the keystone icon in the main menu and adjust the angle using the arrows on the remote control or on the top of the projector.

Step 6: Troubleshooting file formats

If your file is not appearing in the main menu, please refer to section 6 of the quick start guide for troubleshooting.

  • You have three options to load files onto the projector: USB drive (included), HDMI cable (included), or TF-Card (not included).
  • For files loaded using a USB drive or TF-Card, the next step is to determine what kind of file you are trying to project. If it’s a video file, click on the “VIDEOS” icon in the main menu, then the picture of a USB drive.
  • If your files are in the correct format1, you will then see them displayed on the screen.
    1. Video files must be MP4 or AVI.
  • If the file you are trying to project is a still image, click the “PHOTOS” icon and then the picture of a USB drive.
  • If your files are in the correct format2, you will then see them displayed on the screen. If your JPG file does not display, skip to Section 6 “Troubleshooting file formats.” When you first click on an image, a toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen so that you can scroll through pictures without having to return to the previous screen. Use the arrows on the remote control or the top of the projector to navigate between the different commands on the toolbar. Once you have located the file you want to remain on the screen, select the “pause” button on the toolbar so that the projector does not automatically scroll through the rest of your photos.
    1. Still images must be either JPG/JPEG or GIF. If you do not see your file even though it is a JPG/JPEG, please see section 6 of this quick start guide for troubleshooting.
  • To dismiss the toolbar so that only your image is showing, press the “return” button on the remote or the top of the projector.
  • The HDMI cord allows for direct connection to a HDMI-equipped computer or mobile device. To project files this way, connect the projector to your computer or mobile device and then select the “INPUTS” icon in the main menu. On the next screen, select the “VIDEOS” icon. The projector will then begin projecting the screen from your computer or mobile device.

( Please note: The HDMI cable provided may not be compatible with some mobile devices such as Apple products that require Apple-manufactured HDMI cables and adapters to work properly).

Accessing the grid overlays

There are multiple ways to access the 12 built-in grids. The easiest way is to press the “GRID” button on the remote control or the file icon on the top of the projector. These two options are best for accessing the grids AFTER you have selected an image to project. Once the grid dialog box appears, you can change between different grids by simply pressing the left or right arrows on the remote control or the top of the projector.

To dismiss the dialog box after selecting the desired grid, press the “return” button on the remote or the top of the projector. Alternatively, you can access the grids BEFORE you select an image by selecting the “OVERLAYS” icon in the main menu.

Once the grid dialog box appears, you can change between different grids by simply pressing the left or right arrows on the remote control or the top of the projector. To dismiss the dialog box and return to the main menu so that you can locate the image you want to project, press the “return” button on the remote or the top of the projector. Once you have returned to the main menu, follow the instructions in step 3 to locate your file.

Using the keystone feature

The keystone feature is available in photo or video mode, and can be accessed with the Up/Down buttons on the projector. In photo mode, pause the slideshow, wait for the submenu selection to disappear, then adjust the keystone. You also have the option to adjust the keystone before selecting your photo. To do this, hover over the keystone icon in the main menu and press “OK”. Then, use the “up” or “down” arrows to adjust the keystone angle to the desired setting. Then, follow step 3 of this Quick Start Guide to select your photo.

Troubleshooting file formats

A note about JPG/JPEG configurations: Not all JPG/JPEG are the same. The Flare 450 cannot read JPG/JPEG that have been altered from Baseline JPG/JPEGs to Progressive JPG/JPEG in a photo editing program like Photoshop. To change the image back to a baseline JPG, follow these steps:

  • Select “File” and “Save as”.
  • Rename the file and click “Save”.
  • Once you click “Save”, the JPEG Options box will appear. Click “Baseline” or “Standard” and then “OK.” Your new file is now compatible with the Flare 450.
