LED IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS!
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND DELIVER TO OWNER AFTER INSTALLATION
- To reduce the risk of death, personal injury or property damage from fire, electric shock, falling parts, cuts/abrasions, and other hazards please read all warnings and instructions included with and on the luminaire box and all luminaire labels.
- Before installing, servicing, or performing routine maintenance upon this equipment, follow these general precautions.
- Installation and service of luminaires should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
- Maintenance of the luminaires should be performed by person(s) familiar with the luminaires’ construction and operation and any hazards involved. Regular luminaire maintenance programs are recommended.
- It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractory/lens. Frequency of cleaning will depend on ambient dirt level and minimum light output which is acceptable to user. Refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm water and any mild, non-abrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. Should optical assembly become dirty on the inside, wipe refractor/lens and clean in above manner.
- DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCT! This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during transit. Inspect to confirm. Any part damaged or broken during or after assembly should be replaced. Contact Holophane for information.

WARNING
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
Disconnect or turn off power before installation or servicing.
Verify that supply voltage is correct by comparing it with the luminaire label
information.
Make all electrical and grounded connections in accordance with the National
Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local code requirements.
All wiring connections should be made with UL Certified wire connectors.
CAUTION: RISK OF INJURY
Wear gloves and safety glasses at all times when removing luminaire from
carton, installing, servicing or performing maintenance.
Avoid direct eye exposure to the light source while it is on.
WARNING: RISK OF BURN
Allow lamp/luminaire to cool before handling. Do not touch enclosure or light
source.
Follow all manufacturer’s warnings, recommendations and restrictions for:
driver type, burning position, mounting locations/methods, replacement and
recycling.
CAUTION: RISK OF FIRE
Keep combustible and other materials that can burn, away from lamp/lens.
Do not operate in close proximity to persons, combustible materials or
substances affected by heat or drying.
CAUTION: RISK OF PRODUCT DAMAGE
Never connect components under load.
Do not mount or support these fixtures in a manner that can cut the outer
jacket or damage wire insulation.
Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Never connect an LED
product directly to a dimmer packs, occupancy sensors, timing devices, or
other related control devices. LED fixtures must be powered directly off a
switched circuit.
Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not restrict
fixture ventilation. Allow for some volume of airspace around fixture. Avoid
covering LED fixtures with insulation, foam, or other material that will
prevent convection or conduction cooling.
Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not exceed
fixtures maximum ambient temperature.
Only use fixture in its intended location. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD
can damage LED fixtures. Personal grounding equipment must be worn during all
installation or servicing of the unit.
Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten
lamp life, or alter performance.
Some components inside the fixture may not be serviceable. In the unlikely
event your unit may require service, stop using the unit immediately and
contact an ABL representative for assistance.
Always read the fixtures complete installation instructions prior to
installation for any additional fixture specific warnings.
Please see product specific installation instructions for additional
warnings or any applicable FCC or other regulatory statements.
Failure to follow any of these instructions could void product warranties.

Warning – Risk of

Table 1. Verify that the input voltage rating of the retrofit kit matches the
input voltage rating of the supply source.

edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects.

Introduction
1.1 Product Description. The PXLH Retrofit Kit to be installed to existing
mounting covers. See Table 1 for more information on compatible products and
for the PXLH Retrofit Kit nomenclature that corresponds to each manufacturer’s
mounting covers.

Installation
2.1 Tools and Materials Required.

Note: For mounting screw provided on the existing mounting cover, you may use
the 3/8” socket tool.
2.2 Existing Luminaire Removal
2.2.1 Disconnect power to existing luminaire.
2.2.2 Unscrew the existing mounting cover and luminaire housing measurement
screw.
Note: For the Crouse-Hinds and Holophane Mounting Covers, completely
remove and disregard the existing mounting cover screw.
(See Table 1 and Figure 11 for mounting screw measurement information).
2.2.3 Disconnect all field wiring to the luminaire housing. Any fuse, fuse
holder, surge protector, HF Generator and/or photocell installed to the
existing mounting cover will need to be bypassed. Disconnect all wiring leads
to the fuse, fuse holder, surge protector, HF Generator and/or photocell.
Remove and discard the fuse, fuse holder, surge protector and HF Generator.
Secure and cap all loose leads from the photocell. Do not remove the photocell
from the mounting cover.
2.2.4 Cut the grounding wire between the mounting cover and housing near
middle. Be sure to leave the ground leads secured to the grounding screw on
the mounting cover.
2.2.5 Remove the luminaire, keeping the mounting cover in place.
PXLH retrofit kit can only be used with the mounting covers in Table 1.
2.2.5.1 For the Holophane mounting covers, the existing gasket must be removed
from the mounting cover before the PXLH retrofit kit is installed. First,
locate the existing gasket as shown in Fig. X

2.2.5.2 Place a Flathead screwdriver between the Holophane mounting cover and
the existing gasket at the notch beside the mounting hook. Reference Fig. Y
for notch location. Gently separate the existing gasket from the Holophane
mounting cover.

Caution: Gasket Removal
The new gasket provided with the PXLH retrofit kit will seal to a ridge on the
Holophane mounting cover. Reference Fig. Z for the location of this ridge.
When removing the gasket, ensure that this ridge is not damaged by the
Flathead screwdriver, as it will serve as the sealing joint.

2.2.5.3 Once
the existing gasket has been separated from the Holophane mounting cover in a
small area around the notch, remove the screwdriver. Gently peel the existing
gasket away from the Holophane mounting cover manually. If the existing gasket
become stuck at any point, use the screwdriver to remove the stuck portion and
then continue.
2.2.5.4 After all of the existing gasket material has been removed, continue
installing the PXLH retrofit kit as outlined below.
2.2.6 Before installing retrofit kit, the existing mounting cover must be
suitable to install the PXLH retrofit kit. Inspect existing mounting cover for
corrosion or structural damage. If the mounting cover appears corroded or
damaged, contact the manufacturer of the cover.
See table 1 for full mounting cover compatibility chart.
2.2.7 Ensure existing installed wiring is undamaged and meets applicable code
requirements.
2.2.8 Clean sealing joint gasket on top of the retrofit kit to ensure a smooth
interface surface.

Caution: Retrofit Kit Wiring Chamber and Retrofit Kit Orientation (Figure
1-B)
The PXLH is provided with asymmetric distributions when ordered with the
Forward Throw (FWD) or Long & Narrow (ND) distribution. Ensure correct type is
being used for your application. Inside of PXLH Retrofit Kit wiring chamber is
provided with arrows to indicate orientation of asymmetric distribution.

Retrofit Kit Installation (Figure 3)
3.1 Mounting
3.1.1 If mounting the PXLH Retrofit Kit to a mounting cover that has a wall
or stanchion mount, remove the shield bracket by unscrewing the two screws as
shown in Fig 4. If the mounting cover does not include a wall or stanchion
mount, keep the shield bracket in place.
3.1.2 Hang the PXLH Retrofit Kit hinge pin on the existing mounting cover
hook. See Fig. 3 for hinge pin location.
3.1.3 Make appropriate supply and ground connections to the Retrofit Kit wires
in accordance with local codes inside PXLH Retrofit Kit wiring chamber.
3.1.3.1 For grounding the retrofit kit to the existing mounting cover, strip
the end of the mounting cover’s grounding wire and connect it to the connector
provided at the end of the green ground wire of the retrofit kit.
3.1.3.2 See Section 8 – Wiring Diagrams section.
3.1.3.3 Cap any leads from PXLH Retrofit Kit or existing wiring that are not
in use.
3.1.4 Close the PXLH Retrofit Kit to existing mounting cover using the closure
screw as follows.
3.1.4.1 For the Crouse-Hinds and Holophane mounting covers use the closure
screw provided on PXLH Retrofit Kit.
3.1.4.2 For the Appleton mounting covers, use the provided swing bolt attached
to the mounting cover. The nut on the swing bolt should be loosened to
properly mount the PXLH Retrofit Kit, but not removed from the swing bolt.
Once the PXLH Retrofit Kit is mounted, the nut should be tightened and torqued
to 85 in-lbs.
3.1.4.3 For the Killark mounting covers, please see Fig. 5 for complete
illustration of the Killark mounting cover types.

If the Killark mounting cover has a slot as shown in Figure 5, OPTION A, use the provided closure screw and nut that comes with the PXLH Retrofit Kit in place of the Killark closure screw and screw stop.
The provided nut will fit into a hexagonal depression in the Killark mounting cover, and the provided screw will thread into it. Once the PXLH Retrofit Kit is mounted, the closure screw should be tightened and torqued to 85 inlbs. -
If the Killark mounting cover has a tapped through hole as shown in Figure 5, OPTION B. replace the Killark closure with the provided PXLH Retrofit Kit screw; ensure that the PXLH Retrofit Kit screw threads into the Killark mounting hood properly. Once the PXLH Retrofit Kit is mounted, the closure screw should be tightened and torqued to 85 in-lbs.
3.1.5 Ensure wires are not pinched in sealing surface. Tighten closure screw
to torque specified in Figure 1-A.
3.1.6 Energize luminaire and check for correct operation.

Blue Tooth Sensor Application
5.1.1 Contact ABL for associated quick-start guide.
WARNING: EXPLOSION HAZARD!
The Bluetooth sensor in the retrofit kit is only intended for initial
programming use outside of the hazardous location.
Programming controllers including portable hand-held remote units (i.e. smart
phones, iPads, etc.) shall be used outside of the hazardous location, unless
they are Certified for the areas involved.
Maintenance
6.1 Gasket Joint Surfaces
6.1.1 Check the condition of gasket joint surfaces.
Gasket joint surfaces that have debris, or show signs of damage or wear, may
affect seal integrity.

6.2 Cleaning
6.2.1 Disconnect power to the unit prior to opening and performing any
maintenance.
6.2.2 Wipe off exterior dirt and debris using a soft clean cloth. A mild
detergent and water may be used if necessary.
DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS ON OPTICAL SURFACES. THEIR USE MAY RESULT IN
THE LOSS OF OPTICAL EFFICIENCY
6.3 Optic Replacement (See Table 2 for Catalog Nomenclature) (Figure
6)
Contact Holophane for optic replacement.
6.3.1 Disconnect power to the luminaire.
6.3.2 Remove luminaire and set on a work surface for optic replacement.
6.3.3 Remove the four fasteners holding the ring and lens optical assembly
using a T-20 center pin Torx driver.
6.3.4 Replace with new optical assembly into heatsink using the drip edge as a
guide.
6.3.5 Partially thread each ring fastener into the heat sink.
6.3.6 Then drive each ring fastener, one by one, further down in a sequential
pattern until the ring is seated against the heat sink.
6.3.7 Tighten each ring fastener to between 25 and 35 inch pounds.

Section 8 – Wiring Diagrams
STANDARD POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT WIRING
WIRING FOR STANDARD PXLH RETROFIT KITS PROVIDED WITH DIMMING LEADS OR FOR
PXLH RETROFIT KIT PROVIDED WITH OPTIONAL SUFFIXES; SBG 10 OCC BTP, SBG 10 HL
BTP, SBG10 ADC BTP, AND SBG10 ANL BTP PROVIDED WITH RED LEAD.
NOTE: Dimming and Dimming wiring not required for base luminaire
functionality. The existing mounting cover must have dimming circuits matching
the electrical parameters of the retrofit kit.
- If the dimming leads are not to be used, or if the PXLH retrofit kit is provided with optional suffixes; SBG 10 OCC BTP, SBG 10 HL BTP, SBG10 ADC BTP, AND SBG10 ANL BTP (provided with a red lead) proceed to Installation 1.
- If the dimming leads are to be used proceed to Installation 2.
Installation 1:
- Make all electrical supply connections in the PXLH wiring chamber using the existing supply wires from the old luminaire. See Wiring Diagram Figure 1 below.
- Insulate the dimming lead ends or the red wire lead end with Listed wire connectors from the PXLH retrofit kit and the existing dimming leads (if provided). See Figures 6 and 7 below.
Installation 2:

Using the supply wires, make all electrical supply connections in the PXLH wiring chamber. See Wiring Diagram Figure 8 below.

Verify all existing wires are rated for 480 Vac minimum or provide additional certified insulating sleeving rated 480 Vac minimum.
Verify all existing wires are rated for the existing dimming circuit suitable for 0-10 Vdc. -
Connect dimming leads to the leads on the PXLH retrofit wiring chamber, matching the circuit polarity leads (+ Purple, ̶ Pink or Gray). See Wiring Diagram Figure 3 below.

For dimming circuit connections, use wire rated to a minimum of 90C. Dimming control wires must be insulated to the maximum voltage rating. Use UL certified dimming control suitable for specific ordinary or hazardous locations where the control is located.

Installation:
- Using the supply wires, make all electrical supply connections in the PXLH wiring chamber. See Wiring Diagram Figure 9 below.
- Verify all existing wires are rated for 480 Vac minimum or provide additional certified insulating sleeving rated 480 Vac minimum. Verify all existing wires for the existing dimming circuit are suitable for 0-10 Vdc. Verify all existing wires for the existing battery backup circuit are suitable for 120-277 Vac, 50/60 Hz, 4W.
- Connect backup battery leads to the leads on the PXLH retrofit wiring chamber, matching the wiring diagram Figure 4 below. Connect power line black, white and green wires. Connect un-switched power line to red lead labeled “UNSWITCHED LINE”.
- Connect dimming leads to the leads on the PXLH retrofit wiring chamber, matching the circuit polarity. See Wiring Diagram Figure 9 below.
- For dimming circuit connections and battery backup circuit connections, use wire rated to a minimum of 90C. Dimming control wires and battery backup wires must be insulated to the maximum voltage rating.
- If dimming leads are not be used, insulate the dimming lead ends with Listed wire connectors from the PXLH retrofit kit and the existing dimming leads (if provided).
