How to Use your Coffee Maker
Before the First Use
- Carefully unpack the coffee maker and remove all packaging materials.
- Before making coffee in your coffee maker, thoroughly clean the carafe, carafe lid and permanent filter with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners.
- You may wipe the warming plate with a clean damp cloth. However, do not immerse the cof-fee maker in water or other liquid.
- Prior to brewing your first pot of coffee, operate coffee maker once or twice with water but without ground coffee. This will remove any dust that may have settled inside the coffee maker (which might affect the flavor of coffee).
IMPORTANT: Use only cold water for best results.
Preparing the Coffee Maker for Brewing Coffee
-
Place your coffee maker on a flat and stable surface.
-
Plug the unit to the outlet.
-
Fill with water the reservoir, close the lid and place the glass carafe on the warming plate.
NOTE : The amount of brewed coffee after the brewing process will always be slightly less than the amount of water placed into the coffee maker, since some water is absorbed by the coffee ground or evaporates. Add a little extra water at the beginning so that you end up with the
exact number of cups desired. -
Swing the filter basket door and place the permanent filter in the filter basket. Fill the filter with the required amount of coffee.
-
Use one coffee measure of ground for each cup of coffee. The amount of coffee may be adjusted to suit your particular taste by decreasing or increasing the amount of coffee used.
NOTE: Be sure to use coffee grounds prepared specifically for automatic drip coffee makers. -
The lid of the glass carafe must be placed properly on the carafe during the brewing process.
-
Press the power button, the light will go on indicating that the coffee maker has begun the brewing cycle.
NOTE: Usu the aroma regulator to obtain milder or stronger coffee.- To obtain milder coffee, turn the aroma regulator to position
- To obtain stronger coffee, turn the aroma regulator to position
-
The appliance will brew until the water tank is emptied, then automatically enter into a keep-warm mode (the warm plate will keep the brewed coffee warm at above 75ºC) until the appli-ance switches into off mode within 40 minutes.
-
Press the power button when the carafe is empty or when the coffee maker is not in use.
-
Unplug from the socket
Hints for Great Tasting Coffee
- A clean coffee maker is essential for making great tasting coffee. Regular cleaning, as specified in “Cleaning and Maintenance” is highly recommended.
- Always use fresh, cold water in your coffee maker.
- Fine-ground coffee promotes fuller extraction and provides rich, full-tasting coffee. The regular ground will require slightly more coffee per cup to provide the strength of a finer grind.
- Store coffee in a cool, dry place. Once coffee has been opened, keep it tightly sealed in the refrigerator to maintain freshness.
- For optimum coffee, buy whole beans and grind them just before brewing.
- Do not re-use coffee grounds since this will greatly impair coffee flavor.
- Reheating coffee is not recommended. Coffee has optimum flavor immediately after brewing.
- Small oil droplets on the surface of brewed black coffee, is due to the extraction of oil from the coffee grounds. Oiliness may occur more frequently if heavily roasted coffees are used.
Cleaning and Maintenance
NOTE: Always make sure coffee maker is unplugged and warming plate is cool before attempting to clean. To protect against electric shock, do not immerse cord, plug or unit in water or other liquid.
- The outside of your coffee maker can be cleaned by wiping the surface with a damp, soft cloth.
- • Glass carafe and carafe lid may be washed with warm, soapy water or placed in the top rack of the dishwasher. Do not place any other parts of the coffee maker in the dishwasher.
- You may he permanent filter under running water.
- Do not clean the inside of the water reservoir with a cloth, as the cloth may have a lint residue that could clog the coffee maker.
- For stubborn stains, use a nylon pad or soft sponge with a non–abrasive cleaner. Do not use metal scouring pads or abrasive cleansers.
- Calcium deposits may build up in the coffee maker as a result of minerals commonly found in drinking water. The built–up is normal and may result in a slower brewing time. The slow down can be eliminated by periodically decalcifying the coffee maker.
- To decalcify, fill the carafe with cold water and two tablespoons of while vinegar. Pour the solution into the water reservoir, and then close the lid. Place the carafe on the warming plate and allow the coffee maker to brew the vinegar solution. While decalcifying, do not use coffee in the filter. When the vinegar solution has finished brewing, empty the carafe and rinse it out with cold water. Refill the water reservoir with cold water and run another brew cycle to remove any remaining vinegar solution. Repeat if necessary.
Descaling
The appliance has to be descaled regularly, otherwise the coffee taste will become bad and the scale deposited inside in the machine may cause permanent and irreparable damage to the machine. If you begin to notice the increase of noise during boiling, or a longer time of brewing time, or the appliance switches off before the water tank is empty, these are indications that descaling is necessary. The frequency depends on the water hardness and the brewing frequency. Generally, the de-scaling should be done in the following periodicity:
- With soft water, at least once every 3 months.
- With hard water, at least once every month.
It is recommended to use only liquid descaler suitable for coffee maker and read carefully the instructions on its package or user manual before use.
-
Mix adequate descaler with cold water in a measuring jug.
NOTE: Never use a powder descaler. -
Fill the water tank up to the MAX level with the prepared solution.
-
Operate the appliance until the water tank is empty as if you brewed coffee, but without pa-per filter and ground coffee in the filter holder.
-
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for another descaling cycle.
NOTE: Never refill the water tank with the used descaling solution because it is no longer active. -
Operate two more brewing cycles with fresh, cold water to remove all descaler solution residues.
IMPORTANT:
- Never interrupt the descaling process.
- Malfunctions caused by scale deposited inside the appliance are not covered by the guarantee if the descaling process is not carried out properly.
