Installation
Lamps
- Only fit or replace a lamp when the device is unplugged from the mains.
- Let a lamp cool down before replacing it as the temperature of a lamp can reach 700°C during operation.
- When handling a halogen lamp, do not touch it with your bare hands. Use a cloth to insert or remove it.
- Do not install lamps with a higher wattage than what this device was designed for.
- Replace any deformed or damaged lamp with a lamp of the same type (see “Technical Specifications”):
- Unscrew the 2 screws on top of the device.
- Remove the lid.
- Remove the old lamp from the socket and insert a new one.
- Carefully replace the lid and fix it with the screws.
Remark: Do not use the device when the cover is open
Fuse
- Only fit or replace a fuse when the device is unplugged from the mains.
- If the lamp burns out, chances are you will need to replace the fuse as well.
- Replace a blown fuse with a fuse of the same type and rating (see “Technical Specifications”):
- Remove the fuse holder under the power socket at the back of the device.
- Remove the old fuse and install a new one.
- Replace the fuse holder.
Mounting the Device
-
Have the device installed by a qualified person, respecting EN 60598-2-17 and all other applicable norms.
-
The carrying construction must be able to support 10 times the weight of the device for 1 hour without deforming.
-
The installation must always be secured with a secondary attachment e.g. a safety cable.
-
Never stand directly below the device when it is being mounted, removed or serviced. Have a qualified technician
check the device once a year and once before you bring it into service. -
Install the device in a location with few passers-by that is inaccessible to unauthorised persons.

Operation
DMX512 Connection
Connect the provided XLR cable to the female 3-pin XLR output of your controller and the other side to the male 3- pin XLR input of the VDP250MGD2. Multiple VDP250MGD2s can be linked through serial linking. The linking cable should be a two-core screened cable with XLR input and output connectors.
DMX-512 Chain with Termination
A DMX terminator is recommended for installations where the DMX cable has to run a long distance or is in an electrically noisy environment (e.g. discos). The terminator prevents corruption of the digital control signal by electrical noise. The DMX terminator is simply an XLR plug with a 120 resistor between pins 2 and 3, which is then plugged into the XLR output socket of the last device in the chain. Please see illustrations.
Selecting the Start Address for the DMX Projector
All DMX-controlled devices need a digital start address so that the correct device responds to the signals. This digital start address is the channel number from which the device starts to “listen” to the digital commands from the DMX controller. Enter the correct number and read it from the display located on the base of the VDP250MGD2. You can use the same starting address for a whole group of devices or enter an individual one for every device. When using one single address, all the units will “listen” to the control signal on one particular channel. In other words: changing the settings of one channel will affect all devices simultaneously. If you set different addresses, each device will “listen” to a separate channel number. Changing the settings of one channel will only affect the device in question. In the case of the 2-channel VDP250MGD2, you will have to set the start address of the first device to 1, the second unit to 3 (1 + 2), the third to 5 (3 + 2), and so on.
- The LED next to the LED display indicates the status of the DMX signal:
- LED flashing: DMX signal present.
- LED off: No DMX input signal.
After powering up the device, the display shows the DMX start address. Set the desired start address by means of the YES or NO button to increase or decrease the address value. Press ENTER to confirm. Other functions can also be selected by means of the F DOWN or F-UP button, modified using the YES or NO button and confirmed using the ENTER button. The device has the following functions
Channel Configuration
DMX control: By means of the included DMX cable it is possible to chain multiple units together for synchronous operation. Music control: It is possible to chain multiple devices together using a slave-master configuration. Connect the output of the master device to the input of the first slave device, then connect the output of the first slave to the input of the next slave and so on. Now, use function 4 (music control) or function 5 (auto program) on the master unit to obtain a synchronization between master and slaves. Under music control (F4) the LED next to the display of the master device will flash to the beat of the music while the LED indicators on the slave devices will continuously light.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- All screws should be tightened and free of corrosion.
- The housing, visible parts, mounting supports and the installation location (e.g. ceiling, suspension, trusting) should not be deformed, modified or tampered with e.g. do not drill extra holes in mounting supports, do not change the location of the connections.
- Moving mechanic parts must not show any signs of wear and tear.
- The electric power supply cables must not show any damage. Have a qualified technician maintain the device.
- Disconnect the device from the mains prior to maintenance activities.
- Wipe the device regularly with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
- There are no user-serviceable parts except for the lamps and the fuse.
- Contact your dealer for spare parts if necessary.
