Where to place your indoor garden?

  • Indoor use only.
  • Place near an electrical outlet.
  • In a properly ventilated room.
  • Away from reach of children or pets.
  • On a flat, even and stable surface (tilted surface can decrease the reservoir capacity).
  • Away from the dust and from the humidity.
  • Optimal operating temperature is 25°C (77°F).
  • The indoor garden does not need sunlight, and it can therefore be placed wherever you might find it suitable, even in a windowless room.
  • Avoid placing your indoor garden under permanent direct sunlight (eg. conservatory in summer), near heaters or air-conditioning. Plants don’t like drafts of air or dry air and could dry out if they receive too much sunlight.
  • Please keep a minimal space of 3 cm (1,5 inch) between the top of the indoor garden and any different object (even in maximal position, the garden should not touch a wall shelf for example).
  • If used in a bedroom, the garden lights can interfere with sleep cycle.
  • If you have to move your indoor garden, disconnect the adapter from the power socket and move the device with both hands. Never lift the indoor garden by its lighting poles.

Assembly of the various elements

  1. Remove with care all the elements out of their packaging. Verify that all parts are included.
  2. Put the water reservoir on a flat and stable surface. Install the float (6), the lid (5) then, the baskets (3).
  3. Insert the light support (1b) on the lighting pole (1a) (see figure 1 below) then, insert the lighting pole into its place (fig. 2). You will feel a “click” (fig. 3).BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 3
  4. Open the packaging of one or several Lingot(s)®, push them out of the box using as shown (fig. 4). Insert the Lingot(s)® into the basket(s) (fig. 5).BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 4You can cut the name label on the packaging of the Lingot® and insert it behind the basket to identify your plants (fig. 6).BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 5

How to fill the water reservoir?

  1. Fill the water reservoir at the center hole (fig. 7). Use a small watering can or a carafe with a spout. Use room temperature tap water or rain water. Do not use softened or decriminalized water.
  2. Pour slowly until the float rises and fully closes the gap. The float guides you on the maximum amount of water to fill. The water reservoir maximum capacity is 1 litre (34 oz).
Note: A Lingot® takes about 3 hours to re-hydrate. If after 3 hours the surface of the Lingot® is not wet, push it down the basket.BOTANEO EYLO
Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 6

When to add water?

  • The mark “MIN” indicates the minimum water level. Fill the reservoir when you see the “MIN” mark (fig. 8).
  • Do not attempt to fill the reservoir beyond the maximum level. Too much water can harm your plants or cause mold growth.
  • Depending on the plant specie, the growing phase and your climate, you will need to add water every 1 to 3 weeks.
  • When you begin a new germination process, re-hydrating the Lingots® will use a lot of water. Fill up again with water 24 hours after inserting new Lingots® in order to get the full reservoir capacity.BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 7

Use

Connection

  1. Connect an extremity of the adapter in the hole situated behind the support of lighting (1b) (fig. 9).
  2. Connect the other end of the adapter on a wall power socket (fig. 10).
  3. The lighting turn on immediately.BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 8

Light timer

  • When you plug in the indoor garden, the light will stay on during 16 hours and off during 8 hours. The light timer automatically provides plants with the optimal amount of “day” and “night”. It is essential for healthy plants.
  • Lights will turn on every day at the time you plugged in your indoor garden. e.g, If you plug it in at 7:00 am, lights will turn off at 11:00 pm. It remains like this until you don’t plug off from the adapter.
  • If your plants receive any ambient light during the day (natural or artificial), we recommend that you set your indoor garden lights to be on during the day.
  • To reset the light timer, unplug the adapter for at least 30 seconds.

Adjust the light height

  • Start with the lower level and, as plants grow, adjust the lamp and harvest regularly before leaves touch the lights.
  • To adjust the height: hold the indoor garden with a hand and raise the lighting pole with the other hand (fig. 11).
  • Keep a minimum distance of 1-2 inch/2-5 cm between the plants and the light (fig. 12).
Prune often your plants before leaves touch the lightsBOTANEO EYLO

Indoor garden care

  • Control the water level and add water when needed.
  • Adjust the light pole.
  • Prune often your plants. As your plants age you may see some brown or yellow leaves. Pull these to keep the plant fresh and help ward off disease. Keep your garden clear of dead leaves. Remove dead, brown stems at the base with scissors (do not pull).
  • Replace the watering wicks every 6 months (see “Maintenance and cleaning” paragraph).
  • For long period of absence, it is best to start with 2 new Lingots® that have autonomy up to 4 weeks. For adult plants, watering autonomy is 1-2 weeks.

When to replace a Lingot®?

  • It is time to replace your Lingot® when your plant no longer produces enough, doesn’t grow back after harvest or has weak flavour.
  • Compost it or mix it with soil in your garden or flower pot.
  • WARNING: during the Lingot® replacement, do not throw the plastic basket containing the Lingot®. It will not be supplied with the new Lingot®.
  • Lingots® from Veritable® brand are available on veritable-potager.com

Can I use my own seeds and/or soil?
The Lingots® have been selected for their rich flavours, their rapid growth and their compact full grown size fit to the indoor garden.
If you try your own seeds, soil and/or nutrients, we can’t guarantee it will grow as efficiently as with the Lingots®.
The warranty will not be applicable if the device is damaged because of improper use.

Maintenance and cleaning

Rem placing watering wicks:

  • It is best to replace the watering wicks every 6 months, especially if roots have passed through.
  • To remove the wicks, push them from the inside of the basket (fig. 13).BOTANEO EYLO Autonomous and Compact Indoor Garden - Figure 10

Cleaning
We advise you to clean your indoor garden while changing Lingots® (approximately every 6 months).

  • Disconnect power before cleaning.
  • Never immerse the indoor garden, the power cord in water or other liquid, or place under running water.
  • Only use a soft cloth or a soft sponge and some hot water added with washing liquid. Rinse with water and towel dry before reassembling.
  • Baskets are dishwasher-safe, but must be rinsed off the compost prior washing.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaning agents (use only mild soap).

To remove the lighting pole
Press on the unlocking button at the bottom of the pole (fig. 14) then, raise it up (fig. 15).

Storage
When the indoor garden is not in use, pull out the main plug and clean it.

  • Use original packaging for storage. Always store Lingots® in a cool, dry place in their original box.
  • The best way is in an airtight container at 39- 43°F/ 4-6°C (e.g., your refrigerator’s crisper drawer). We recommend you use your Lingots® within the year of their purchase. Germination rate may decrease after one year.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible cause Solution
Lights are not working The indoor garden is not plugged in correctly Check

that the adapter is correctly connected on a functional socket (refer to the paragraph “connection”).
The light is on “night” mode.| The light will be off automatically after 16 hours. It stays off during 8 hours.
A LED light should last many years, so you will not need to replace your lights. However, if needed, replacement parts are available at Botaneo.
The top leaves are «burnt».| Plant is too close to light.| Raise the lamp according to the plant growth. Keep a minimum space of 5 cm (2 inch) between the light and the plant.
My Lingot® did not germinate.| The seeds have a normal germination rate of 65% to 95%. If more than 1/3 of the Lingot® did not germinate after 20 days, check the following:
Wrong temperature| Some seeds need at least 20°C (68°F) to germinate: move your indoor garden to another location.
Lingot® is not irrigated (Lingot®’s surface is still dry).| Push the Lingot® down the basket to be sure it reaches the watering wicks.
Poor storage conditions.| If your Lingot® was stored in poor conditions (too hot, too humid) for a long period, this damage is irreversible. See “Storage” paragraph.
My plants have flowers but no fruits.| Flowers are not pollinated| You need to help pollination. Fruiting plants (tomatoes, pepper, hot chilli) will only grow from pollinated flowers. The Lingots®are all self- pollinating plants (meaning individual flowers contain both the male and the female parts needed for fertilization). But sometimes natural airflow in your home will not be enough to spread the pollen. If you want better result you need to pollinate your plants once they begin to bloom.
To do so, use one of the following methods:
• Gently shaking the plant by hand (optimum solution for tomatoes).
• Place a fan near your plants to create artificial “wind”.
• Gently brush the inside of the flowers with a pollinating brush (optimum solution for bell pepper and hot chilli).
Pollinate your flowering plant at least every 2 days, and only when lights are on.
My plants do not have flowers.| Lack of darkness. Plants need a daily dark period to produce flowers.| If your indoor garden is in a place that receives any room light (natural or artificial), set it to be in a dark area for at least 8 hours every 24 hours.
No enough light.| You need to prune your plants to keep them under the lamp.
Incorrect temperature| Move your Garden to warmer or cooler place depending on the species.
e.g., Tomatoes, Pepper and Chilli love heat: 21°C (70°F) to 32°C (90°F).
Problem| Possible cause| Solution
---|---|---
I have mold/moss on my Lingot®.| Light spot in Lingot®’s holes.| This is not mold but clay, used to fix seeds in the Lingot®. This is perfectly normal.
White fluff or green moss.| It can appear during germination phase and during the first 2 months. It is well known in organic soil-free farming and depends on humidity of your room. Don’t worry, it does not prevent the growth of your plants.
Do not fill the tank above maximum level.
There are insects in my plants.| Lingots® are made of a pasteurized natural substrate which are insect-proof. If you find insects in your plants, they have spread from other indoor plants or from outside.
A few insects are not harmful to your plants but they can quickly multiply if you don’t act.
Do not forget to treat all other plants in your home. Always rinse your plants with water before eating if you have treated them.
If you have an infestation, you may want to start over. Harvest your plants and clean your device well with soap. Wait a few days then start again with 2 new Lingots®.
