Scattered light smoke detector MSD 523
Technical information and operating instruction
For connection to smoke and heat extraction systems with two-wire system
Features
The scattered light smoke detector MSD 523 with digital signal processing and
intelligent logic has very good response behaviour with very few false alarms.
The MSD 523 is designed for connection to conventional control panels
evaluating a rise in current.
Special features
- digital signal processing
- alarm threshold tracking
- temperature-aided smoke evaluation
- signature alarm for smoke
- alarm filter to reduce the number of false alarms
- backwardly compatible with the SSD-521 smoke detector series
Revision / Maintenance
Note: The MSD 523 has an alarm filter to prevent false alarms. To check out the smoke detector the detector can be set into the inspection mode. In this operating mode a curtailed alarm filter function can be activated. For this purpose the operating voltage must be switched off for a minimum of 10 seconds, or the reset switch must be depressed on the SHE control panel unit. The alarm filter is then non-functional for 17 minutes, and the smoke detector can be checked out with the test gas cleared by STG-BEIKIRCH. After this period of time has elapsed the alarm filter is automatically reactivated.
Hours of operation
The heat detector has an automatic pollution compensation with LED indicator
and according to DIN 14675 A1 it is subject to the following operation hours:
a) If, during the annual performance test according to DIN VDE 0833-1, no
variance of the responding qualities is tested, the detector can remain in
service.
b) If according to point a) the functionality is demonstrated, the detector
can remain operating up to eight years. After this time the detector has to be
replaced respectively has to be tested in the factory and to be overhauled.
Function / Application
The MSD 521 detects smouldering, glowing and open fires with smoke development
at an early stage and is used wherever smoke-developing flaming fires and
smouldering fires are to be detected at an early stage.
Light emitter and light sensor are arranged in the sensing chamber in such a
way that light from the emitter cannot strike the sensor directly. Only the
light scattered from smoke particles (Tyndall effect) reaches the sensor and
is converted into an electrical signal. If this reaches the alarm value, an
alarm is automatically sent to the control panel.
The integral alarm indicator indicates the alarm locally. It is visible from
any angle, regardless of the mounting.
Connection
The scattered light smoke detector MSD 532 is connected to control panels as
conventional fire detector with current increase. A 2-wire cable connects the
control panel to the detectors in series.
Note: active end module only at TRZ and TRZ VDS.
End of line resistor and active end module are not included in delivery.
