GENERAL

This manual was prepared with the aim of making the installation and management of your system as simple as possible.
By reading and applying the suggestions of this manual, you can achieve the best performance of the purchased product.
We would like to thank you for choosing to purchase one of our products.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The App allows you to manage the main parameters of your VMC via smartphone and tablet from the comfort of home or away. Using our App is very simple: just switch on the VMC display, set up the connection with your smartphone and start managing it directly from your device.
Follow the guide step by step to the end.
Certain version requirements of your smartphone’s operating system are necessary to download and install the App:

  • for Android smartphones the minimum version is 4.1.1
  • for Apple smartphones, the operating system must be IOS 8.0 or higher

DOWNLOADING AND CONFIGURING THE APP

  1. On your smartphone, connect to the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Look for the VMC App or Kumbe developer.
  3. Download the App on your smartphone and install it following the guided procedure.
  4. Open the App.

At first start-up, a pop-up appears to accept the terms and conditions of use, which can be consulted by clicking on the word “here”, then accessing the website. (Figure 9-1)
Click on “Accept” to start using VMCApp
Select the language and management mode for PUSH notifications. Tick the “PUSH notifications” preference to receive alarms related to VMC operation on your smartphone even when the App is closed. (Figure 9-2)
N.B. These settings can also be changed at a later date by selecting the “Preferences” item in the menu.

After switching on the display of your VMC, go to the Wi-Fi settings of your phone:

  1. make sure Wi-Fi mode is activated
  2. check available Wi-Fi connections
  3. identify the “Fancoil” network
  4. connect to the latter

N.B. this procedure is automatic with Android devices; with IOS devices you need to go into the Wi-Fi settings of your device and select the “Fancoil” network.
N.B. If there are several VMCs to be configured, switch on one at a time to avoid errors.
N.B. If the application asks to connect to the location, accept to facilitate the search for the VMC. (Figure 9-5)

The product screen appears (Figure 9-6), where it is possible to assign a name and indicate the serial number, which consists of 7 alphanumeric characters on the VMC nameplate + the letters SN already highlighted on the APP;
You can set a password to the “VMC” network to protect your product management from unauthorised access.
N.B. For Android devices, after typing the product name, the name of the Wi-Fi network also changes and connects automatically. For IOS devices, once you have changed the name, you have to go back into the WiFi settings of your phone and connect to the
renamed network (the name will be “Fancoil” followed by _ and the name you have just established, e.g. “Fancoil_VMC”). (Figure 9-8)

N.B. It is also possible to change the name of the device later, by accessing “My Devices” from the menu and clicking on the second icon (pencil symbol).
The general VMC control screen appears when one of the configured products is selected; the presence of the hydronic battery will be requested for whether or not the temperature can be managed. (Figure 9-9)
N.B. From this moment your smartphone becomes the remote control with which you can control the VMC through the local Wi-Fi network, but not through the Internet. To do this, one more step must be taken: connect to the home Wi-Fi network by accessing the smartphone’s settings and then select the “Remote Control” item in the menu.

MY DEVICES

When “My Devices” are selected, the VMCs in the network are displayed and can be edited and/or scheduled as desired.
New devices can be added by searching for them, installing them and configuring them by clicking the + symbol at the top and/or bottom right.
By selecting one of the configured products, the general VMC control screen appears, through which it can be controlled and managed.

MODE

The VMC operating mode can be changed in several ways:
– by selecting “Mode” in the general menu;
– by clicking on the edit button at the bottom right of the general VMC screen.
This takes you to the screen in Figure 9-16.

The VMC display screen lock can be enabled from the “Mode” screen.

After the lock has been applied, a warning appears on the general control screen. (Figure 9-18)

From this moment on, the VMC control screen is locked and parameter management is only possible via smartphone or tablet.
To return to changing the VMC settings from the display, uncheck the item “Keyboard locked”.

PROGRAMMING

N.B. this option is only possible if remote control has been configured.
The VMC operation schedule is accessed by selecting “Programming” from the menu (Figure 9-19).
By clicking on “edit” for a day of the week, you can add and define one or more VMC switch-on bands according to ventilation speed v1, v2, v3 on that day by clicking on the “+” symbol (Figure 9-20).
N.B. Schedule several switch-on periods with a minimum duration of half an hour on the same day.

To change the switch-on period, click on one of the two start/end times (Figure 9-21).
To set the machine to OFF in a certain time slot, the corresponding time slot must not be selected. This timetable will then appear white in the graphics.

To change the speed, click on “threshold” to select the desired speed for the individual threshold (Figure 9-23.2). Once programming is confirmed, return to the screen with the list of days of the week.
If you wish to apply the same programming that you have just confirmed to other days of the week, click on “copy”and select the days on which you wish to apply this programming (as in the sequence of the example figures below).

In addition to weekly VMC programming, 3 temperature and speed thresholds can also be adjusted in this section. If the presence of the hydronic battery has been indicated, clicking on “edit” in the top right corner will allow you to set both the 3 temperatures and the 3 speed thresholds (Figures 9-27 and 9-28.1). If the battery is not present, it will only be possible to set the 3 speeds. (Figure 9-28.2 example of the choice) It is possible to enter these temperature thresholds within programming of the week and the corresponding speeds by setting t1; the speed v1 will also be used in the same band.

Following the same programming mode as for a day of the week, click on “threshold” in the period setting screen (Figure 9-29) to select the de- sired temperature or speed. The temperature thresholds will appear pre-set while the speeds must be chosen. Returning to the main screen with the list of days of the week, the times will have different colours according to the set temperature. (See Figure 9-26)

After finishing programming, select “Mode” in the general menu, then “Programming”. This activates the newly created week program.
When you return to the main VMC screen (Figure 9-31), you will see the programming indications are at the bottom. In the case of a scheduled switch- off time, the time of the first restart of the VMC will be present.
To deactivate programming and return to manual mode:
– select “Mode” in the general menu, then “Manual”.
– click on the edit icon at the bottom right of the device’s general screen. (Mode)

N.B. Changing the settings on the VMC display disables programming and returns to manual mode.
If the VMC is located in a place open to the public where it cannot be monitored, the VMC display screen lock can be enabled to prevent unauthorised persons from changing the settings.
Simply select “Mode” in the general menu, then “Keyboard locked”.
N.B.
Set a different weekly schedule for Heating and Cooling mode.
A list of available Wi-Fi connections will appear when “Remote Control” is selected.
N.B. the VMC is only able to connect to 2.4GHz networks.
Select the preferred one for Internet  access. Then enter the wi-fi networkpassword and confirm it.
The App connects the VMC to the home network and the main general screen for device management appears again on the smartphone/tablet.
The smartphone/tablet is now connected to the selected network.

From now on, your VMC is connected to a server via the Internet and can be operated from anywhere in the world via Wi-Fi or the data connection of your phone.
N.B. If the procedure fails, the smartphone/tablet will automatically reconnect to the local network of the VMC. Then repeat the procedure, re- checking the password entered and the network name.
N.B. When the device is configured in the cloud, “Temp” may be displayed as the name for the device.
In this particular case, the device failed to reboot; communication works correctly but the name is incorrect. To solve this, a restart of the VMC is necessary (by switching the power off and on again).

WI-FI NETWORK FEATURES

  • Working Internet connection

  • Static public IPs are not required

  • No input configurations are required on the router (nat or other specific rules) – dns service working

  •  Working DHCP service or alternatively the following information:
    – local IP address to be assigned to the subnet mask card
    – gateway
    – dns

  • If the router or other entities in the customer’s network have ACLs at the MAC-address level, the MACaddress of the card must be enabled if the customer wishes to control certain functionalities locally (change name, change advanced settings, control from PC); the Wi-Fi network must allow  communicationbetween devices connected to the same Wi-Fi (= Wi-Fi Isolation must not be active).

Technical requirements for the correct functioning of the TCP cloud connection port 80, 443, 19009, 18321, 18009 outgoing.

GROUPS

If you have several VMCs, you can combine them into groups to simplify  their programming and management.
(E.g. grouping the VMCs of a hotel on each floor).
First, select the “Groups” item in the menu and create a new group by click- ing on “+”.
(Figure 9-36)
Then give the group a “Title” and save with the icon in the top right-hand corner.
(Figures 9-37 and 9-38)
The group has been created but no VMC is yet associated.
Returning to the “Groups” screen will display the new group, which can be edited or deleted using the icons to the side.

To associate a VMC with a group, select “My Devices” from the main menu.
In this section, in addition to the list of all configured VMCs, the list of groups also appears.
Click on the eye next to the group name, then on the “+” symbol and select the VMCs to be associated. Finally, save with the icon in the top right-hand corner (as in the sequence of the example figures below).

You can also associate a VMC with the group via the VMC itself.
Select the penultimate icon on the VMC row (list icon with three rows) and click on “Assign groups” (Figure 9-43). Assign the VMC to one of the proposed groups in the list.
Clicking “Send settings”instead applies the settings of that VMC to the group that will be selected.

PREFERENCES

Under “Preferences”, which can be selected in the menu, it is possible to change the language of the App and to change the settings for PUSH notifications.
Tick the “PUSH Notifications” option to receive VMC operation notifications directly on your smartphone, even when you are not using the App.

ALARM SIGNAL

If the alarm symbol appears as in Figure 9-45, click on it to display the error message.

CONNECTION OF MULTIPLE DEVICES

It is possible to manage the same VMC with several devices (smartphone/tablet/PC).
After configuration with the first device, it is possible to control the machine with another smartphone/tablet, following the procedure described in the next lines.
First, you need to connect to the Wi-Fi network, where the VMC we want to control is also connected.
Install the “VMCApp VMCs”” App also on the new smartphone/tablet and proceed as in Figures 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3 shown on page 30.
At this point the phone signals that you are not connected to the right Wi-Fi network and to connect to the “VMC” network: ignore the warning by clicking the “devices” button just below the loading bar (Figure 9-46).
If you are connected to the Wi-Fi network where your VMC is also connected, the phone automatically scans all VMCs connected to the network (Figure 9-47). Click on the name of the device you want to add.
Once the device is saved, the general control screen opens automatically, from which the VMC can also be controlled with the second phone/tablet.

WI-FI NETWORK ON, OFF AND RESET

With the “reset” function, the configuration can be resumed from the beginning in a few simple steps:

  • With the display switched on, press and hold the button for 10 seconds. When “On” appears on the display, release the button. If nothing is touched for another 10”, the VMC’s Wi-Fi is active and remains visible and usable with the last configured name.
  • To reset the VMC and return its Wi-Fi network to its original configuration (labelled “VMC”), press the button again. The abbreviation “rSt” appears. Wait 10” for the operation to be successful. At this point, a new Wi-Fi configuration of the VMC is required, starting from the indications in Figure 9-4.
  • By pressing and holding the the Wi-Fi status of the VMC switches to “OFF” mode: the Wi-Fi transmitter will then be switched off and no longer visible from the smartphone/tablet.

6.3 ALARMS
Below is the table of unit malfunctions signalled by the remote display or by flashing of the LED on the board.

EFFECT CAUSE SOLUTION
The application does not connect with the VMC. Problems with the Wi-Fi
network. Disconnect and reconnect to the “VMC” network.
Speed thresholds cannot be set. Check WI-FI card firmware, if it has a number
lower than 11.0.1. Replacement of the VMC control or its Wi-Fi card.
The VMC is not configured on the IOS smartphone. IOS smartphones do not

automatically detect the Wi-Fi network, which was renamed during the configuration of
the App.| Go to the phone’s settings and select the VMC’s Wi-Fi network with the name given to it during the App configuration.
Remote configuration fails.| The Wi-Fi network may be weak.| Check signal strength.
The VMC’s Wi-Fi cannot be detected.| The WI-FI transmitter may be switched off OR the VMC may already be configured in “Remote control”.| Check the presence of voltage in the device.
It is not possible to configure several VMCs within one house.| At the time of configuration, two or more VMC units are switched on.| Configure one VMC at a time: then switch on one at a time, keeping all others switched off, and start the configuration.
The programming section of the VMC cannot be accessed.| VMC programming is only possible once the remote control has been configured.| Make sure you have configured remote control by accessing the remote control section from the App menu.
Otherwise, configure it as explained on page 38.
Immediately after remote configuration, the name of the VMC is “TEMP”.| This is a synchronisation problem between VMC, server and smartphone.| Wait a few minutes.
Otherwise, switch the VMC off and on again.
MQTT Server Problem.| The server is under maintenance.| Please wait.
