The information presented in this manual will prepare you to operate the Kiser Edge in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Operating the Kiser Edge in a proper manner will provide a safer working environment and create a more efficient result. Read this manual fully and understand the entire manual prior to setup, operation, adjusting, performing maintenance, or storing the Kiser Edge. This manual contains information that will allow you the operator to get years of dependable performance from the Kiser Edge.

This manual will provide you with information on safely operating and maintaining the Kiser Edge. Operating the Kiser Edge outside of the stated safety and operations guidelines may result in injury to operator and equipment, or void the warranty.

The information provided in this manual was current at the time of printing. Variations may be present as Absolute Innovations, Inc. continues to improve and upgrade the Kiser Edge for future use. Absolute Innovations, Inc. reserves the right to implement engineering and design changes to the Kiser Edge as may be necessary without prior notification.

Operational Safety Rules

Please exercise caution at all times when setting up, operating, or performing maintenance on the Kiser Edge. Remember, any piece of equipment like the Kiser Edge can cause injury/damage if operated improperly or if the user does not understand how to operate the equipment. Exercise caution at all times with using the Kiser Edge.

• Never permit any person to ride or board the Kiser Edge at any time. NEVER ALLOW RIDERS ON ANY ABI MODEL KISER EDGE!
• Never place any body part under the while the Kiser Edge is in operation.
• Never allow anyone near the Kiser Edge while in operation.
• Operate the Kiser Edge in the daylight or under good artificial light. Operator should always be able to clearly see where they are going.
• Be alert for hidden hazards. Always operate the Kiser Edge with caution over work environments that may have buried obstacles.
• Stay well and clear of all moving parts. Keep all limbs clear of attachments when making adjustments with all hydraulically operated attachments.
• Use caution when operating the Kiser Edge in icy, wet, or snowy condition.
• Do not use the Kiser Edge on highways or public thoroughfares. The Kiser Edge is designed for off road use only.
• Always follow Tractor/UTV/RTV Manufacturer’s rules for safe Operation of Tractor/UTV/RTV, and for proper procedures for towing attachments. Contact your local dealership for an Owner’s Manual for any questions related to the safe operation of the Tractor/UTV/RTV.

Information on your Kiser Edge

Revolutionary Design:

Designed by the World’s leading expert on horse arena footing, Bob Kiser, the Edge offers a radical change in arena footing maintenance. With its revolutionary “Profile Blade Technology” the Edge grooms every square inch of the footing material and safely cleans the base, under the surface, of dangerous compaction layers. For the first time, compact tractors operators with a 3 point hitch can achieve Kiser quality results at an affordable price.

Push Blade:

The “push” blade pushes the arena footing ahead filling in hoof prints and low spots. This smoothes out the arena and leaves level ground for the stabilizing wheels to travel over; keeping the Edge from bouncing and leaving a “washboard” effect behind. You will notice that the push blade is angled so that if it picks up too much material the footing simply flows over the top of the blade thus eliminating creating big holes in the arena by displacing too much material.

Stabilizing / Gauge Wheels:

The stabilizing wheels are the most critical part of the Edge design. Without substantial wheels a three point tool tends to “dip” in and out of the footing making most three point tools dangerous to a base material and nearly impossible to effectively use. But the stabilizing wheels on the Edge allow the operator to set the depth of the profile blade and keep the depth consistent without going into the base. Once this tool is properly set the operator simply lowers the tool to the ground a drives the tractor with no hydraulic or 3 point adjustments necessary.

Profile Blades:

The “profile blades” are at the heart of the Edge. Because of this unique concept the desire to loosen footing without creating ridges can finally be realized. Similar to a sod cutting blade the “profile blades” cut parallel to the arena grade. So, instead of “ripping” through footing with perpendicular teeth these “profile blades” slice through the footing in quarter inch increments and loosen the footing as deep as seven inches. Now with every single pass of the tractor the Edge will be loosening 100% of the footing! This saves an enormous amount of time on the tractor because the driver no longer has to make two or three passes over the same footing with different patterns! The profile blade cleans the base of compaction and lifts the footing material to add cushion.

Floating Comb / Rake:

The final point of contact is the adjustable floating comb with additional springs that allows for customizable pressure to be applied to the footing. This enables the Edge to achieve the desired finish no matter the consistency of the footing material. The floating comb (rake) additionally breaks up dirt clods and produces a beautiful signature finish. It is constructed of 3/4″ wear resistant hardened steel and is replaceable in sections.

Optional Features

Ripping Teeth:

For certain hard packed types of footing, that have a lot of clay or stone fines, it may be necessary to temporarily replace the Edge’s leveling blade with the optional ripping teeth. These teeth will break up the hardest footing allowing the “profile blades” to easily slice through the ground. Once the compacted footing is loose simply remove the ripping teeth and put back the leveling blade. If you regularly groom your arena you will not have to use the ripping teeth very often. Tips are replaceable.

Rail / Wall Blade:

The rail blade attaches to the frame of the Kiser Edge on the right hand side using a hitch pin. The shovel cuts into the built up material along arena walls and rails and pulls it back into the arena, saving the user time and effort when grooming your arena.

Attaching and Setting up your Kiser Edge Rake

Attaching to a Tractor –

Attach the Kiser Edge to a Tractor by connecting the bottom arms of the 3 point hitch into the areas highlighted with arrows labeled #1. Last, connect the top link to the top mast indicated by arrow labeled #2.

Make sure that all pins are properly secured before lifting or using the Kiser Edge.

Ensure the draw bar on the tractor is fully retracted, and that the bottom 3 point arms of the Tractor are set to the same length. Ensure the sway bars on the Tractor are set tightly before attaching and operation the Kiser Edge.

Adjusting the Kiser Edge for use –

The Stabilizing wheels of the Kiser Edge are the center point of the tool. These wheels are fixed to the main frame of the Kiser Edge and are not adjustable. The wheels are designed to help control the depth of the leveling blades and the profile blades.

The Kiser Edge has been designed to be pulled through an arena footing level with the ground. The following steps are the initial adjustments to make in order to level the Kiser Edge with the ground. Additional adjustments may be needed later to ensure the Profile Blades are running level with the arena base.

1. With the Kiser Edge attached to the 3 point of a Tractor, take the Kiser Edge to an area with a hard flat surface.
2. To level the Kiser Edge for operation, go to section “Setting the Profile Blades for use.

Setting the Profile Blades for use

The profile blades on the Kiser Edge have multiple holes to help fine tune the cutting depth of the profile blades. The profile blade brackets additionally have multiple holes to allow further adjustments to the ideal depth of the footing. Once the depth of the footing is determined, set the depth of the profile blade using the bottom of the tire.

**It is important to know what the depth is of the footing throughout the arena. Make sure to check the depth of the footing, and determine what the lowest point in the arena footing is. Set the depth of the Kiser Edge profile blades to correspond to the lowest footing level in the arena.

Leveling the Profile Blades for use in the Arena:

1. Before making the adjustment to the profile blade, raise the leveling blades up in their receivers so they will not interfere with leveling the profile blade. The leveling blades are located at the front of the Kiser Edge and will be adjusted for use later in the setup. The leveling blades may not need to be adjusted before the Kiser Edge is adjusted.

2. Next, Lower the Kiser Edge down on the flat hard surface until the wheels sit firmly on the ground. Ensure the finish rake does not dig into the surface when the Kiser Edge is lowered to the ground. If the finish rake hangs up on the surface when lowered, raise the Kiser Edge until the finish rake is free, and then lower it slowly while moving forward with the tractor to make sure the finish rake does not hang up.

3. Using the top link between the Tractor and the Kiser Edge, adjust the Kiser Edge until the profile blades are sitting as level as possible to the surface the Kiser Edge is sitting on.

With the Profile Blades sitting level to the flat hard surface, the Kiser Edge will now be level. This is important to allow the Kiser Edge to work properly in the arena. See the following sections for information on finishing the setup of the Kiser Edge.

Setting the depth of the Profile Blades

1. Lower the Kiser Edge to the ground until the wheels sit firmly on the ground, and remove the pins securing each of the profile blades to the Kiser Edge.
2. Slowly raise the Kiser Edge until the profile blades are roughly the distance below the wheel. This will roughly be the desired depth to drag the arena. If the desired grooming depth in the arena is 2”, than the profile blades should be roughly 2” below the wheels on the Kiser Edge.
3. With the depth set, secure the profile blades using the provided bent pins back to the Kiser Edge. The profile blades may need to be adjusted slightly up or down to secure the pin in the first available hole in the receiver.

Always confirm the depth of the footing in the Arena before setting the depth of the Profile Blades.

Checking the levelness and depth of your Profile Blades in your Arena

1. With the Kiser Edge in your arena, lower the Kiser Edge to the surface of the arena.
2. Pull the Kiser Edge forward until the profile blades are fully into the footing and the wheels of the Kiser Edge are sitting on the surface of the arena. If the wheels do not touch the footing, the depth of the profile blades may be set so that the profile blades are riding on the base of the arena. Adjust the profile blades so they run above the base of the arena. Refer to the above section “Setting the depth of the Profile Blades” on page 5 for information on adjusting the profile blade depth.
3. Stop the Tractor, engage the Parking Brake, and dismount the Tractor. Next you will want to pull the footing back from one side of the Kiser Edge’s profile blades. Either side of the Kiser Edge is fine.
4. With the footing pulled back off the profile blade make sure the profile blades are running level to the base and are set to the depth you want to drag your arena. If the profile blades are not running level to the base of your arena you will need to adjust the Kiser Edge using the top link on your Kiser Edge. If the depth of the Profile Blades must be adjusted refer to the section above and repeat this process from step
5. After you have made the adjustments pull the Kiser Edge a few more feet. Then recheck the levelness of your profile blades to the base of the arena. Make sure to check the levelness of the profile blades after every adjustment to ensure it is running level to the arena base.
6. Once the profile blades are running level to to the base and the depth is set to the desired depth for grooming the arena the Kiser Edge is ready to have the leveling blades set for operation.

Setting the Leveling Blades for use

The Leveling Blades are used to knock down highs and fill in lows inside the arena. The ideal placement for the Leveling Blades is approximately 1” into the surface of the footing. To set this depth for operation, drop the Leveling Blades no more than 1” into the footing while the Kiser Edge profile blades are into the footing and the wheels of the Kiser Edge are sitting on the surface of the arena. Secure the Leveling Blades to the Kiser Edge using the provided bent pins. Make sure the bent pin handles are angled down and the lynch pin is inserted into the bent pin from the bottom.

**Note to Operator: When operating the Kiser Edge it is important to make sure that the frame of the Kiser Edge always rides level. To ensure the Kiser Edge rides level always lock down the locking nut on the top link after adjusting the top link. Additionally, after the Kiser Edge has been lowered for operation make sure to “bump up” the 3 point arms on the Tractor to put pressure back on the 3 point pins. DO NOT LIFT THE KISER EDGE, just put pressure on the pins to keep the Kiser Edge sitting level.

Floating Comb/Finish Rake with Tension Chain

**Notice to Owner – Kiser Edge Models after 3/2014 will not have the tension springs with the tension chain.

The floating comb on the Kiser Edge is shipped in the center holes with the welded tab on the uprights facing toward the front the Kiser Edge. The floating comb can be adjusted up or down depending on the desired effect on the footing. For more compaction, lower the floating comb to the bottom hole, for less compaction raise the floating comb to the top hole. You can also use the attached springs to adjust tension on the floating comb for more control of the effect on the footing. The outside sections of the floating comb will sit lower than the inside pieces. This is pre-set at the factory. This allows the floating comb to contact the footing while making turns in the arena for consistent grooming.

Installing the Floating Comb Springs

The chain is connected to the bracket spring using the quick connector provided. For models after 3/2014 the chain will hook directly to the bracket on the frame of the Kiser Edge. The chain is pre-bolted to the finish rake, using a bolt on the finish rake that is closet in line with the bracket. If the tension chain is not needed for use in the arena, wrap it around the upright of the comb and secure it using the provided quick clip so it will not drag in the footing of the arena. If the chain will not be used the Kiser Edge is now ready for use in the arena.

The operator can adjust the length of the chain to increase or decrease the pressure on the floating comb. To adjust the length of chain, unclip the chain from the quick connector and reconnect the chain at the desired distance. This will give you the amount of pressure you want on the Floating Comb. The amount of pressure applied will vary according to the footing and the type of finish desired for the arena footing.

Optional Features

Optional Scarifiers –

The optional Scarifiers are used to help break up hard pan inside the arena. They should not be left on the Kiser Edge all the time.

To use the Optional Scarifiers in the arena, attach the scarifiers in place of the leveling blades and set the depth of the scarifiers to groom at the depth of the lowest spot in the arena. if the footing in the arena is 2” then the scarifiers should be set to groom at about 1-1/2”. This will prevent the scarifiers from digging into the base of the arena and causing any damage to the base.

Attaching the Optional Scarifiers –

1. Remove the Leveling Blades from their receivers by removing the bent pin’s from the receiver and sliding the leveling blades out.
2. Insert the Scarifiers into the receivers with the flat side of the tip facing the tow vehicle. Then attach the scarifiers by inserting the bent pins with the bent pin handles facing down and insert the lynch pin from the bottom. Repeat the process in reverse to reinsert the Leveling Blades back into the receivers.

Optional Wall Blade –

The Wall Blade is designed to pull built up material along the walls back into the arena. This blade should only be used along the wall of the arena and never in the main part of the arena. Raise the drag out of the footing when transporting or attaching/detaching the Wall Blade to the Kiser Edge.

Attaching the Optional Wall Blade –

1. Insert the Wall Blade into the opening in the frame on the right hand side of the Kiser Edge.
2.  Attach the Optional Wall Blade using the provided hitch pin and lynch pin.
3. When done using the Optional Wall Blade remove the Wall Blade by removing the hitch pin and lynch pin, and slide the Wall Blade back out of the frame of the Kiser Edge.

Maintenance:

Wheels and Hubs – Make sure to check the pressure in the tires to ensure they are properly inflated. If the wheels look to be low on air, fill them until they reach the Manufacturer’s suggested P.S.I. The proper P.S.I for the wheel can be located on the side wall of the tire.

General information on the PSI for the Kiser Edge Tires:

4-ply Kiser Edge Tire: 45 PSI

2-ply Kiser Edge Tire: 50-60 PSI

Information on the Ply of the tire can be found on the side wall of the Tire.

Make sure to grease the hubs, either using a grease gun or by manually packing the bearings; every 2-3 months or more frequently for high volume use of the Kiser Edge. The hubs will also need to be greased before any period of storage, and prior to use after a period of storage.

Cleaning the Kiser Edge – Clean the Kiser Edge using soap and water as needed. Avoid using any strong chemicals as it may damage the paint on the Kiser Edge. A pressure washer may be used to remove built up material off of the Kiser Edge, if needed. If using a pressure washer, make sure to stand away from the Kiser Edge as the pressure may remove paint from the Kiser Edge. If cleaning the Kiser Edge with the Optional Electric Actuator attachment, do not spray water directly on the wiring harness or control box. This may damage the Electric Actuator, control box, or wiring harness.

Removing rust from the Kiser Edge/Paint touch up – Remove rust from the Kiser Edge using a wire brush, or piece of fine sand paper. Wash area with soap and water, rinse, and allow area to dry. Spray the area with a rust inhibiting spray paint and allow paint to dry before use. If desired, a primer can be used before painting the surface with the finished color. Black Semi- Gloss or Gloss spray paint may be used.

Checking Hardware- Before each use check to make sure that none of the attaching hardware on the Kiser Edge is loose or damaged, i.e. nuts, bolts, or pins. If any is found to be loose, ensure it is properly secured prior to using the Kiser Edge. If hardware is damaged replace it prior to operation. All hardware on the Kiser Edge is Standard S.A.E Grade 5 hardware.
