In the event of a natural disaster, like hurricanes or wildfire evacuations, remember to prepare an emergency kit for your pet(s). A waterproof container is recommended, but you could also use a suit case, back pack, gym bag, or large plastic container. Prepare one for each pet.
Your Pet Emergency Kit should include the following:
- Labelled container with your name, contact information and your pet’s name
- Water and food for 3-7 days
- Water and food bowls
- Can opener
- Blanket or towel for bedding
- Toys and treats
- Plastic waste bags (dogs) or litter/litter box (cats)
- Sturdy leash and collar (dogs) or collapsible carrier (cats)
- Medication(s) q Medical Records, County Tags
- Card with your primary care veterinarian’s name and contact information, also include your full name and your pet’s name
- Special Needs List: Feeding instructions, behaviour issues, medical conditions
- Current photo of your pet
- Name and contact information for another person that could care for your pet

This is a list of basic items that would be needed. You may also include any items that you feel would provide comfort to your pet in unfamiliar surroundings.
