Safety information and warnings

  1. Electric Service supply must be 120 volts, 60 hertz.

  2. Do not install in locations where the air temperature will exceed 40°C (104°F).

  3. Do not bend or kink the power wires.

  4. Follow all local building, safety and electrical codes as well as NEC (National Electrical Code) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act).

  5. Always disconnect the power supply prior to servicing the fan, motor or junction box.

  6. Protect the electrical wires from sharp edges, oil, grease, hot surfaces, chemicals, or other objects.

  7. Do not install the unit in ducts where the airflow can be severely restricted.

  8. There should always be an adequate air supply to the vented area.

  9. This ventilating fan is approved for use over a bathtub or shower when installed in a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)-protected circuit. Do not use fan over a bathtub or shower that is not approved for that application and marked accordingly.

  10. For general ventilating use only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.

  11. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply before servicing.

  12. Do not use this fan with any solid state control device, such as a remote control, dimmer switch, or certain timers. Mechanical timers are not solid state devices.

  13. This product must properly connect to the grounding conductor of the supply circuit.

  14. Not for use in kitchens.

  15. Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors. Do not vent exhaust air in spaces within walls, ceiling, attic, crawl space or garage.
    WARNING : TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:

  16. Use this unit in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have any questions, please call customer service.

  17. Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by a qualified person in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction.

  18. Sufficient air is needed for proper combustion and exhaustingof gasses through the chimney (flu) of fuel burning equipmentto prevent back drafting. Follow the heating equipment manufacturers guideline and safety standards such as those published by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and ASHRAE (American Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) and the local building code authorities.

  19. Do not install in a ceiling with insulation greater than R40.

  20. Be careful not to damage existing wiring when cutting or driling into walls or ceilings. When cutting the ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.

  21. Switch power off at service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally. When the service disconnecting means cannot be locked, securely fasten a prominent warning device, such as a tag, to the service panel.

  22. If this unit is to be installed over a tub or shower, it must be marked as appropriate for the application. When the fan is to be installed in the bathroom, the fan and the tub need to be more than 3′ (1 m) from each other, the fan required to install at the other side of the tub in ceiling. Acceptable for use over a bathtub or shower when installed in a GFCI protected branch circuit.

  23. DO NOT use rigid conduit for the installation.

  24. Ductwork should be installed in a straight line with minimal bends.

  25. Duct work size must be the same size as the discharge and should not be reduced. Reducing the duct size may increase fan noise.

  26. For CUL only: Mount with the lowest moving parts at least 8’ 2″ (2.5 m) above floor or grade level.

Pre-installation

PLANNING INSTALLATION

  • When installing the ventilation fan in a new construction site, install the main body of the fan and ductwork during the rough-in construction of the building. The screen should be installed after the finished ceiling is in place.

  • When installing in existing construction, use the dimensions to determine the required hole size for the ceiling. The screen edges should overlap the finished ceiling.

  • Ducting has a strong effect on the airflow, noise and energy use of the fan. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing possible for best performance, and avoid installing the fan with smaller ducts than recommended. Insulation around the ducts can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated airflow.
    NOTE:

  • If installing in existing construction, you must have access to space above and below the installation location.

  • Do not install the ventilation fan in areas where the duct work will require configurations as shown in figure 1.

  • This unit will operate most quietly and efficiently when located where the shortest possible duct run and a minimum number of elbows will be needed (Fig. 2).

It is recommended to apply sealant around fan housing to reduce building heat loss. Seal all spaces around the housing with caulking or another similar product to avoid air loss from the building. Sheet metal ducting and the shortest duct routing possible will minimize loss of static pressure and allow an adequate flow.

Installation joist mounting

  1. Insert the support brackets into the slots on the fan housing (Fig. A).
  2. Install the support brackets to joists by using the long screws (Fig. B).
  3. Refer to the wiring diagram, and using wire connectors, connect house power wires to ventilating fan wires: black to black; white to white; green to green. Replace the junction box cover (Fig. C).

Caution : Mount the junction box cover carefully so that wires are not pinched.

In the existing construction

  1. ln case there is a ventilation unit with the same dimensions in the ceiling, proceed as follows:
  2. Remove the old unit;
  3. Check the existing ductwork and electrical wiring;
  4. install the unit as described in Installation I.
  5. ln case you want to make a new opening in the existing ceiling:
  6. Find the best location for the ventilation purpose;
  7. Make sure that:
  8. the chosen place has easy access to the exterior air outlet (wall vent or roof vent) and there will not be a need for sharp angles or very long duct;
  9. the chosen place for the ductwork will not interfere with any other existing ductwork in the building;
  10. there is no electrical wiring or any pipe behind the chosen place;
  11. Open the optimal place. Be careful to cut the hole exactly. If the hole is too big, the fan screen will not hide it;
  12. Make the strong support beams for the unit (make sure it is strong enough for the weight of the unit);
  13. Provide the duct system and electrical wiring;
  14. Follow the instructions on Installation I.

Maintenance

ELECTRICAL WARNING
Always disconnect the power supply prior to servicing. See safety information on pages 3 and 4 before proceeding.Routine maintenance should be done at least once a year.

  1. Remove the screen;
  2. Wash with lukewarm water and a mild detergent and clean the screenin a sink and dry with a cloth;
  3. Remove dust and dirt from the fan housing with a vacuum cleaner;
  4. Dry the body with a cloth or paper towel;
  5. Replace the screen.

Caution:
Never use solvents, thinner or harsh chemical for cleaning the fan. Do not allow water to enter the motor. Do not immerse resin parts in water over 60 °C (140 °F).
