IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Like any electrical appliance, the Contact Grill must be handled with care at all times. To ensure your own safety, the following precautions should be followed.

  1. BEFORE USING YOUR CONTACT GRILL, READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
  2. DO NOT immerse the product in water or other liquids, or rinse under the tap.
  3. Please check if the voltage marked on the product matches the local power supply voltage, before connecting the product to the power supply.
  4. DO NOT use this product if the plug, power cord, or the product is damaged.
  5. This product is not intended for people (including children) who are physically impaired, have sensory or mental disabilities, or lack relevant experience and knowledge, unless someone responsible for their safety supervises or directs their use of the product.
  6. Keep the product and its cables out of the reach of children.
  7. Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces.
  8. Always place and use this product on a dry, stable and level surface.
  9. This product cannot be operated with an external timer or a separate remote control system.
  10. DO NOT use this product for any purpose other than as described in this user manual.

  19. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than another). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not completely fit in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.
  20. NOTE: This appliance is rated 1600W and should be the only appliance operating on the circuit. The Power Cord must be plugged into an outlet which is properly installed.
  21. WARNING: A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from entanglement or tripping over a longer cord. If it is necessary to use an extension cord, it should be positioned such that it does not drape over the counter or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over and the marked rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of this appliance. CONTROL PANEL

CONTROL PANEL

  1. POWER LIGHT
    The Power Light will light up and remain on when the Contact Grill is powered on.
    Note: Power Light will only turn on if both Temperature and Timer are set.

  2. TEMPERATURE DIAL
    The Temperature Dial allows you to set the temperature.

  3. TIMER DIAL
    The Timer Dial allows you to set the cooking time from 0 to 30 minutes. Turn the dial clockwise to the desired cooking time. The Contact Grill will power on and remain on until the set time is up. When the preset time is up, you will hear a bell ring once.

  4. READY LIGHT
    The Ready Light will light up and remain on when the Contact Grill reaches the set temperature.
    Note: Ready Light will only turn on if both Temperature and Timer are set.

USING YOUR CONTACT GRILL

BEFORE FIRST USE
  1. Carefully unpack the Contact Grill. Remove all packaging materials.
  2. Place the appliance on a flat, level surface, close to a 120V wall outlet.
  3. Open the Contact Grill and wipe the grill surfaces with a damp cloth so that they are clean.
  4. Wipe the outside of the Contact Grill with a soft damp cloth. NEVER immerse the power cord and plug in water or any other liquid.
  5. Close the appliance.
  6. Plug into the wall outlet. Adjust Timer Dial to 10 minutes, then set Temperature Dial to Medium. You may notice some smoke coming from your Contact Grill during this initial phase, this is normal. Season the grill surfaces with vegetable oil and wipe off excess with a paper towel. There is no need to season the surfaces again.

WARNING: Do not immerse the appliance, cord or plug in water. To remove any dust that may have accumulated during packing, wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleansers on any part of the appliance.

OPERATING YOUR CONTACT GRILL
  1. Place Contact Grill on a flat, level surface.
  2. Plug the Contact Grill into power outlet to turn on appliance. The Power Light will turn on when both Temperature and Timer Dials are set.
  3. The Ready Light will cycle on and off during the cooking process indicating that the correct temperature is being maintained.
  4. Always keep the Lid closed and locked in between uses.
  5. Clean the Contact Grill after use and store in a dry place.

CONTACT GRILL MODE (CLOSED POSITION)

This mode helps to cook food in a short amount of time as it allows you to cook both sides of the food at the same time. It is recommended to use boneless meats and thin, even cuts of meats in this mode to achieve best results. You can also use the Contact Grill in this mode as a panini press to grill sandwiches and toast breads.

  1. Place Contact Grill on a flat, level surface.

  2. Plug the Contact Grill into a power outlet.

  3. Position one Drip Cup under the Lower Grill Drain Hole.

  4. Adjust the Temperature Dial to your desired heat setting.

  5. Use the Timer Dial to pre-heat the Contact Grill by setting to 10 minutes. The Power Light will illuminate, indicating the Contact Grill is heating.

  6. The Ready Light will illuminate when the Contact Grill has pre heated and reached your desired heat setting. Then open the Locking Latch and raise the Upper Grill using the handle (see figures 1a and 1b).

  7. Place food onto the Lower Grill surface. Then carefully lower the Upper Grill using the handle until the grill plate comes into contact with the food.

  8. Reset Timer Dial to the desired cooking time. When the timer is up, a bell will ring once.

  9. When food is cooked to your desired liking, use the handle to raise the Upper Grill. If your food requires more cooking, turn the timer dial to the desired additional cooking time.

  10. Remove food with a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use metal tongs or a knife, as these can cause damage to the non-stick coating.

  11. When you are finished cooking, turn both Temperature Dial and Timer Dial to OFF position and remove plug from power outlet.

  12. Allow the Contact Grill to cool before cleaning.

OPEN GRILL MODE (OPEN POSITION)

Open Grill Mode refers to using your Contact Grill with the Upper Grill lying flat, creating a double flat cooking surface to grill on.
OPEN GRILL MODE

  1. Place Contact Grill on a flat, level surface.

  2. Plug the Contact Grill into a power outlet.

  3. Adjust the Temperature Dial to your desired temperature setting.

  4. Use the Timer Dial to pre-heat the Contact Grill for 10 minutes. The Power Light will illuminate, indicating the Contact Grill is heating. A bell will sound at the end of the timer.

  5. The Ready Light will illuminate when the Contact Grill has pre heated and reached your desired heat setting.

  6. When ready, open the locking latch and raise the Upper Grill using the handle (see figure 1). While still holding the handle, press the Release Button on the right of the Contact Grill (see figure 2a).

  7. Once pressed, carefully lower the Upper Grill until it lays flat (see figure 2b).
    OPEN GRILL MODE

  8. Position Drip Cups under both Drain Spouts

  9. Place food on the grill plates and adjust the Timer Dial to set cooking time. A bell will sound at the end of the timer.

  10. When food is cooked to your desired liking, use the handle to raise the Upper Grill. If your food requires more cooking turn the Timer Dial to the desired additional cooking time.

  11. Remove food using nylon or wooden utensils. Never use metal tongs or a knife as these can cause damage to the non-stick coating.

  12. To return the grill to Contact Grill Mode, simply raise the Upper Grill using the handle until it clicks back into the upright position.

  13. When you are finished cooking, turn both Temperature Dial and Timer Dial to OFF position and remove plug from power outlet.

  14. Allow the Contact Grill to cool before cleaning.

USING THE UPPER GRILL HEIGHT CONTROL FEATURE

The height control feature allows you to fix the Upper Gril plate to a fixed height above the Lower Grill plate. This allows your grill to be used to grill delicate ingredients such as fish and hamburger buns without squashing. It can also be used for toasting open sandwich melts and snacks where you do not need to apply the weight of the Upper Grill.

  2. Plug the Contact Grill into a power outlet.

  3. Position one Drip Cup under the Lower Drain Hole.

  4. Adjust the Temperature Dial to your desired temperature setting.

  5. Use the Timer Dial to pre-heat the Contact Grill by setting to 10 minutes. The Power Light will illuminate, indicating the Contact Grill is heating.

  6. The Ready Light will illuminate when the Contact Grill has pre heated and reached your desired heat setting.

  7. When ready, open the locking latch and raise the Upper Grill using the handle (see figure 3a).

  8. While still holding the grill open, slide the locking latch towards the back of the Contact Grill (see figure 3b).

  9. Place food onto the Lower Grill plate. Carefully lower the Upper Grill using the handle until the locking latch rests on the locking tab (see figure 3c).

USING YOUR DRIP CUPS

The Drip Cups are for catching excess oil that drains from the Contact Grill plates. The Upper
Grill and Lower Grill both have oil drainage points for healthier grilling and an easier clean up. The Drip Cups are designed to be placed under these drainage points in any configuration of the Contact Grill.

  • When grilling in the Contact Grill mode, place one Drip Cup under the Drain Spout of the Lower Grill surface (see figure 4a).
  • When grilling in the open grill mode, place Drip Cups under the Drain Spouts of both the Upper Grill and Lower Grill (see figure 4b).

CARE & CLEANING

This appliance requires little maintenance. It contains no user serviceable parts. Do not try to repair it yourself. Contact the customer service department for any unusual issues you may experience.

  1. Always unplug the Contact Grill before cleaning.
  2. Ensure the Contact Grill has cooled down before cleaning.
  3. To clean the appliance, wipe down the grill plates with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly after every use. Never submerge in water or other liquids.
  4. Never use harsh chemical detergents, powder or scouring pads on the nonstick surface or any other parts of the Contact Grill.
  5. Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth.
  6. Do not place the Contact Grill in the dishwasher, this will damage internal components.
  7. To clean the Drip Cups, you can wash in warm, soapy water, or place in the dishwasher.
  8. Use nylon or wooden utensils to remove food from Contact Grill. Do not use metal utensils to avoid damaging the nonstick surface.
  9. Store Contact Grill in a clean, dry place.
  10. Contact Customer Service for any issues or malfunctions.

1 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

This warranty covers all defects in workmanship or materials in the mechanical and electrical parts, arising under normal usage and care, for this product for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase provided you are able to present a valid proof-of purchase. A valid proof of purchase is a receipt specifying item, date purchased, and cost of item. A gift receipt with date of purchase and item is also an acceptable proof of-purchase. Product is intended for household use only. Any commercial use voids the warranty.

This warranty covers the original retail purchaser or gift recipient. During the applicable warranty period within normal household use, we will repair or replace, at our discretion, any mechanical or electrical part which proves defective, or replace unit with a comparable model.

RECIPES

CRISPY HASH BROWNS

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 18 minutes

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 lb russet potatoes (about 3 medium), peeled
1 small shallot, peeled, halved
2 tbs melted butter
3/4 tsp kosher salt
1/8 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
Olive oil, for brushing

METHOD

  1. On large holes on box grater, grate potatoes and shallot. Place shredded potatoshallot mixture into center of kitchen towel, gather corners of towel, and squeeze potato-shallot mixture in towel, extracting as much liquid as possible.
  2. In medium bowl, toss drained potato-shallot mixture with butter, salt, and pepper.
  3. Preheat Contact Grill in Contact Grill Mode (closed position) over medium-high heat.
  4. Brush oil over grill plates. Press potato mixture in even layer onto grill and close grill. Cook 18 to 20 minutes, or until potatoes are golden brown and crisp. Cut into pieces and serve immediately.
CHEESE AND CHILE QUESADILLAS

Serves: 2
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 16 minutes

INGREDIENTS

2 Anaheim chiles or 1 poblano chile, seeded, cut lengthwise into long thin strips
2 tsp olive oil, plus more for brushing
1 3/4 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese
1/4 cup crumbled queso fresco
Two 9-inch flour or whole wheat tortillas

METHOD

  1. Preheat Contact Grill in Contact Grill Mode (closed position) over high heat.
  2. In medium bowl, toss chiles with 2 tsp oil and sprinkle with salt. Add chiles to grill, and close grill. Cook chiles, opening grill and stirring occasionally, for 6 to 8 minutes, or until blackened in spots and softened. Set chiles aside and wipe down grill.
  3. Reduce heat of grill to medium-high. In medium bowl, mix Jack cheese and queso fresco. Brush one side of each tortilla with oil. Turn tortillas oil side down on work surface.
  4. For each quesadilla, sprinkle 1/2 cup cheese mixture over bottom half of each tortilla and top with half of chiles, then another heaping 1/2 cup cheese mixture. Fold top half of tortilla over filling and press lightly to compact.
  5. Place one quesadilla on grill, close grill, and cook 5 minutes, or until golden brown and cheese has melted. Transfer to cutting board, cut into wedges, and serve hot. Repeat to cook remaining quesadilla.
CROQUE MONSIEUR

Serves: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

Mornay Sauce:

  • 1 tbs unsalted butter
  • 1 tbs all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1 tbs Dijon mustard
  • Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Croque Monsieur:

  • Softened unsalted butter, for brushing
  • Four 3/4-inch-thick slices pullman
  • bread or other sandwich bread
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 4 slices Black Forest ham

METHOD

To make Mornay sauce:

  1. In medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Stir in flour and cook, stirring frequently, for 2 minutes, or until butter and flour are well blended and beginning to smell toasted. Gradually stir in half of milk, and bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Stir in remaining milk and bring back to a boil, stirring constantly. Simmer, stirring, for 3 minutes, or until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat and stir in Gruyère until melted. Stir in Dijon mustard and nutmeg and season with salt and pepper. Cover to keep sauce warm.
    To make croque monsieur:

  2. Preheat Contact Grill in Contact Grill Mode (closed position) over medium heat.

  3. Lay out 2 slices of bread on work surface. Divide half of Gruyère between bread.
    Top each with 2 slices ham and then scatter remaining cheese over ham. Top with remaining 2 slices of bread. Using pastry brush, brush outsides of sandwiches with butter.

  4. Place sandwiches onto Contact Grill and close grill. Toast sandwiches 8 to 10 minutes, or until bread is toasted, cheese has melted, and ham is warm. Transfer sandwiches to plates.

  5. Pour Mornay sauce evenly over toasts and serve immediately

TOMATO AND AVOCADO PANINI WITH MOZZARELLA AND PESTO

Serves: 2
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Make-Ahead: Pesto can be made 2 days ahead, covered and refrigerated.

INGREDIENTS

Pesto:

  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1 1/2 cups (lightly packed) fresh basil leaves
  • 1/3 cup pine nuts, toasted
  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 lemon

Panini:

  • One 10-inch piece ciabatta loaf
  • 2 avocados, peeled, pitted, sliced
  • 2 vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing

METHOD

To make pesto:

  1. Using small food processor, puree garlic. Add basil and grind until coarsely chopped. Add pine nuts and pulse to break them up. Mix in Parmesan cheese. Slowly mix in oil and blend. Squeeze lemon juice into pesto and mix to blend. Season pesto with salt and pepper and set aside.
    To make the sandwiches:

  2. Preheat Contact Grill in Contact Grill Mode (closed position) over medium-high heat.

  3. Using serrated knife, cut ciabatta horizontally into 3 slices. Lay bottom and middle bread slices on work surface. Arrange avocado slices over bottom and middle bread slices. Arrange tomato slices over avocado. Season with salt and pepper. Tear mozzarella cheese and scatter over tomato slices. Spoon pesto over cheese.

  4. Assemble sandwich, positioning middle layer atop bottom layer. Cover with top bread slice and press sandwich firmly to compress.

  5. Using pastry brush, bottom and top sides of sandwich with oil. Place sandwich onto Contact Grill and close grill. Grill sandwich 6 to 8 minutes, or until bread is toasted and cheese has melted.

  6. Cut sandwich and serve immediately.

GRILLED VEGETABLE SALAD WITH CURRY-YOGURT VINAIGRETTE

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 12 minutes
Make-Ahead: Vinaigrette can be made up to 1 hour ahead, covered, and refrigerated.

INGREDIENTS

Curry-Yogurt Vinaigrette:

  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbs finely chopped fresh mint
  • 2 tbs finely chopped red onion
  • 1 1/2 tsp grated lime zest
  • 2 tbs fresh lime juice
  • 1 tsp white wine vinegar

Salad:

  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 lb medium zucchini, cut lengthwise in half
  • 1 red bell pepper, cored, quartered, seeded
  • 1 1/4 cups (not packed) baby arugula

METHOD

To make vinaigrette:

  1. In medium bowl, whisk yogurt, mint, onion, lime zest and juice, and vinegar to blend. Season with salt. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
    To make salad:

  2. Preheat Contact Grill in Open Grill Mode (open position) over  high heat.

  3. In medium bowl or on platter, mix oil and curry powder together. Add zucchini and bell pepper and toss and turn to coat. Season with salt and toss again. Grill zucchini and bell pepper for about 6 minutes per side, or until just charred but still firm. Transfer grilled vegetables to platter and set aside to cool slightly, or let cool to room temperature.

  4. Cut zucchini on slight angle into 1-inch-wide slices. Cut bell pepper into 1⁄2-inchwide strips. Return zucchini and bell pepper to platter.

  5. Just before serving, scatter arugula over grilled vegetables and toss vegetables and arugula with enough vinaigrette to coat lightly. Season with salt. Spoon some more vinaigrette around salad and serve.

GREEK SALAD WITH GRILLED SALMON

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Make-Ahead: Vinaigrette can be made up to 1 day ahead, stored airtight at room temperature; re-whisk before using.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 head Romaine lettuce, torn into pieces
  • 4 small tomatoes, cut into wedges
  • 1 English cucumber, halved lengthwise, sliced crosswise
  • 1/2 cup pitted Kalamata olives
  • 1/2 small red onion, very thinly sliced
  • 4 oz feta cheese
  • 1 tbs chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

METHOD

  1. Preheat Contact Grill in Open Grill Mode (open position) over high heat.
  2. Coat salmon with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add salmon and cook 3 minutes per side, or until grill marks form on each side and salmon is mostly opaque, with a rosy center when pierced in thickest part.
  3. In small bowl, add vinegar. Slowly add extra-virgin olive oil and whisk continually to blend. Season vinaigrette with salt and pepper.
  4. In large bowl, toss lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, and onions with enough vinaigrette to coat. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Divide salad among plates. Crumble feta cheese over salads. Top each salad with salmon and sprinkle with parsley. Drizzle with remaining vinaigrette and serve.
GRILLED CHICKEN KEBABS

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 9 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 4 tbs extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp sumac
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, seeded, diced
  • 1 Persian cucumber, seeded, diced
  • 1/2 cup (loosely packed) fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, finely chopped (seeded if desired)
  • 2 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 4 pitas

METHOD

  1. Preheat Contact Grill in Contact Grill Mode (closed position) over high heat.
  2. In medium bowl, toss chicken, 2 tbs oil, cumin, and sumac to  coat. Season with salt and pepper. Divide chicken and thread onto 8 skewers. Add skewers to grill, close grill, and cook 5 minutes, or until chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Set kebabs aside to rest.
  3. In medium bowl, toss tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, onions, jalapeño, lemon juice, garlic, and remaining 2 tbs oil to combine. Season with salt.
  4. Adjust Contact Grill to Open Grill Mode (open position). Grill pitas 1 minute per side, or until heated through and toasted. Divide pitas among plates. Top each pita with 2 chicken skewers and generously spoon salad over skewers.
GRILLED STEAK SALAD

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ribeye steaks (10 oz each)
  • 8 cups (very loosely packed) arugula (about 4 oz)
  • 4 tbs extra-virgin olive oil, divided, plus more for brushing
  • 2 tbs fresh lemon juice
  • One 2 oz piece of Parmesan cheese, shaved with vegetable peeler
  • 1 bunch asparagus, ends trimmed

METHOD

  1. Preheat Contact Grill in Open Grill Mode (open position) over high heat.
  2. Pat steaks dry with paper towels. Brush steaks lightly on both sides with oil and season with salt and pepper. Place one steak on each side of grill. Cook, rotating as needed, for 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until heavily browned outside and mediumrare inside (instant-read thermometer will register 130°F in center of steaks).
  3. Meanwhile, in medium bowl, toss arugula, 3 tbs oil, lemon juice, and Parmesan to coat. Season with salt. Transfer salad to a large serving platter. As steaks come off grill, season with pepper, place directly over arugula, and leave to rest.
  4. While steaks rest, adjust Contact Grill to Contact Grill Mode (closed position). Toss asparagus with remaining 1 tbs oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add asparagus to grill, close grill, and cook 5 minutes, or until charred all over and crisp-tender. Transfer to cutting board and cut in half.
  5. On cutting board, slice steaks against grain into thin strips and serve over arugula salad and grilled asparagus.
ITALIAN-STYLE BURGERS

Cook Time: 25 minutes
Make-Ahead: Ketchup can be made up to 2 days ahead, covered and refrigerated.

INGREDIENTS

Roasted Tomatoes:

  • 3 tomatoes, quartered
  • 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  • 10 fresh thyme sprigs
  • 2 tbs olive oil

Gourmet Ketchup:

  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbs Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbs Sherry vinegar
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbs finely chopped fresh chives
  • 2 tsp finely chopped fresh tarragon

Burgers:

  • Olive oil, for brushing
  • 4 thin slices prosciutto
  • 4 ciabatta rolls, halved horizontally
  • 4 burger patties (6 oz each)
  • 4 oz Fontina cheese, thinly sliced
  • 8 romaine lettuce leaves

METHOD

To roast tomatoes:

  1. Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 500°F.

  2. Place tomatoes on baking sheet. Arrange garlic slices on top of tomatoes and scatter thyme sprigs over tomatoes. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast until tomatoes are tender and golden brown on bottom, about 20 minutes. Set aside.
    Meanwhile, to make gourmet ketchup:

  3. In medium bowl, whisk ketchup, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, chives, and tarragon.
    To prepare burgers:

  4. Preheat Contact Grill in Open Grill Mode (open position) over high heat. Brush grill plates with oil and lay prosciutto slices on grill and cook, turning once, for 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until crisp and golden. Transfer crisped prosciutto to paper towel-lined plate.

  5. Grill ciabatta rolls, cut side down, until lightly toasted, about 2 minutes. Keep buns in warm place.

  6. Adjust Contact Grill to Contact Grill Mode (closed position). Add burger patties to grill, close grill, and cook 5 to 6 minutes, or until browned and cooked through to your preferred doneness (instant-read thermometer will register 130°F in center of burgers for medium-rare doneness). Remove burgers from grill and drape Fontina cheese slices over burgers.

  7. Place lettuce over grilled ciabatta bottoms. Set patties on lettuce. Spoon some gourmet ketchup over burgers. Top with crisped prosciutto and roasted tomatoes. Cover with ciabatta tops and serve.

FRENCH TOAST WITH MAPLE-GLAZED STRAWBERRIES

Serves: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Make-Ahead: Custard can be made up to 1 day ahead, covered and refrigerated.

French Toast:

  • 4 large eggs, whisked to blend
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Four 3/4-inch-thick slices brioche bread or challah
  • 1 tbs melted butter

Maple-Glazed Strawberries:

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 8 oz small strawberries, hulled, halved
  • 1 orange

METHOD

To make French toast:

  1. In large baking dish, whisk eggs, cream, milk, sugar, and cinnamon. Place bread slices in custard and let stand 5 minutes, or until custard is absorbed, turning bread slices once.

  2. Preheat Contact Grill in Open Grill Mode (open position) over medium-high heat.

  3. Brush grill plates with some melted butter. Add 2 soaked bread slices to each side of grill and cook 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown on each side and warm throughout.
    Meanwhile, to make maple-glazed strawberries:

  4. In small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring syrup to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 2 minutes, or until slightly reduced. Transfer syrup to medium bowl and cool slightly. Add strawberries and toss to coat.
    To serve:

  5. Divide French toast among plates and top with strawberries and syrup. Finely grate zest of orange over and serve.
