FITTING OUTSIDE HANDLES TO HATCHES WITH GLUED-ON HANDLES

Note : This process invalidates the warranty on the hatch

  1. Remove the screw holding the handle to the glued-on moulding and remove the handle.
Note : A pillar drill must be used for the following 2 instructions and great care taken to ensure that the lid does not move during the drilling process. The holes must be drilled perpendicular to the face of the acrylic.

  2. Drill a 3mm diameter pilot hole through the fastening hole in the moulding and the acrylic.

  3. Drill a 15mm diameter hole through the moulding and the acrylic. Drill the acrylic in from both sides to prevent the acrylic from breaking out around the hole

  4. A standard outside handle (component #1) or mushroom can now be fitted through the hole to the existing inside handle. It may be necessary to file a few millimetres off the end of the spindle to ensure that the O-ring under the handle is pulled down onto the acrylic.

  5. The square on the outside handle spindle will drive the handle retainer (component #3) which can turn up to 50 degrees before engaging the inside handle (component #2)

  6. Dry assemble the new handle system and determine the best position for the retainer relative to the inside handle. These two components may then be glued together or locked together by mechanical means
Note when supplied the small inside handles turn through a restricted arc. This will no longer be the case.
Note there is no lock on the inside handle, security will be compromised.
