PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION
-
Shower Space Preparation
A. Install additional stud supports for any accessories such as grab bars, shower seating, or shower doors.B. Substrate: Ensure moisture resistant backerboard or moisture resistant drywall has been installed and is level, with all seams properly sealed with waterproof membrane.
C. Shower flooring: Confirm UPHOME Shower Pan Base or other shower flooring is correctly installed, and adhesives are properly cured before beginning the shower wall installation. NOTE: For UPHOME Shower Pan Base installation instructions, please refer to the Pan Base installation guide included with your Pan Base.
D. Floor Protection: Cover with thick cardboard your UPHOME SHOWER PAN BASE or other shower flooring before starting your installation. -
Wall Orientation and Pattern Alignment
A. Before beginning installation, identify each wall panel and its placement direction (panel letters and directional arrows are located on the back of each panel).
B. Lay each panel, decor side up, on a flat, level surface and arrange the panels alphabetically to align the pattern.
| Shower Wall Pattern Notice: Shower wall patterns are designed to flow
continuously across all panels from left to right.
Misplacement in the panels’ order or in its vertical orientation (marked on
the back with arrows) will interrupt the continuity of the pattern.
---|---
| Pattern Alignment Notice: Pattern alignment may deviate vertically and
horizontally up to 1/16″, which may require slight panel adjustment using
shims to align the pattern. See Wall Installation Steps 5 and 6 for details.
| Shower Wall Panel Notice: Wall panels are flexible and may have a slight flex
of up to 1/8” when laid flat on a surface.
Installation Step 7 will provide bracing instructions to ensure full contact
of the wall to the substrate.
| Wall panel installation is a continuous process. Ensure you have sufficient
time and materials to complete the entire wall panel installation steps to
avoid impacts to the pattern alignment.
| If you identify any issues during inspection do NOT install. Contact UPHOME
Customer Care at 844-364-2502 for
assistance.
3. Trimming Information and Important Guidelines
A. Trimming may be required during the wall installation process. Please note the following information to help avoid damage or injury.
| Safety equipment is highly recommended when using power tools and equipment.
---|---
| When trimming wall panels, rest each panel with the decor side up on a
cutting table or similar flat surface that ensures the entire panel has full
support to avoid breakage.
| Use a wet saw with a diamond tile cutting blade or a circular saw with a
fine-tooth carbide blade.
| Use painters tape over the area that will be cut with the decor side up to
prevent damage or chipping.
| If walls need trimming, to minimize pattern interruption, ONLY trim the
interior corner edges that will not be exposed.
4. Back Wall Panel Prep and Dry-fitting
A. Measure the width of the back wall shower area and the back wall panels (“B” and “C” or “B/C”) ensuring the total width of the panels fit in your space.
B. If the back wall panel(s) requires trimming to fit the shower area, only trim the edges indicated with dotted lines on figure 4b. The dotted line is illustrative for this instruction, it is not present on the physical panel.
*This illustration shows the panels as viewed from the back. Refer to Step 3 in this manual for important wall preparation and trimming guidelines
C. Dry-fit back panels to the back wall shower area to confirm correct fitting. If additional trimming is needed, repeat step 4A and 4B.
5. Back Wall Panel: Installation
A. Clean the shower wall area and wall panels of any debris or dust. Apply modified thinset or polyurethane construction adhesive to wall panel “B” or “B/C” and to the left side of the back wall area (only where the panel will be installed). NOTE: Do not apply thinset or adhesive to the waterproof flange.
B. Ensuring the directional arrows are pointing up, press the wall panel “B” against the prepped wall area using even pressure. Once the panel adheres to the wall, check for level across the panel surface and edges, using a rubber mallet to adjust leveling as needed. NOTE: If your shower kit only includes one back wall (“B/C”), continue to Step 6.
C. Apply modified thinset or polyurethane construction adhesive to wall panel “C” and to the right side of the back wall area (Only where the panel will be installed). NOTE: Do not apply thinset or adhesive to the waterproof flange.
D. Ensuring the directional arrows are pointing up, press the wall panel “C”against the prepped wall area using even pressure. Slide and shim panel “B” or “C” as needed to align the pattern. Once the pattern is aligned, check for level across the panel surface, using a rubber mallet to adjust leveling as needed. NOTE: If your shower kit only includes the back walls (“B” and “C”), continue to Step 8.
E. Clean all the panels of any excess adhesive before it dries.
6. Lateral Wall Panel Prep and Dry-fitting
A. Measure the width of each lateral wall (“A” and “D”) starting from the
front of the back wall panel ensuring the width of the panels fit in your
space.
B. If the lateral wall panel(s) requires trimming to fit the shower area, only trim the edges indicated with dotted lines as seen in figure 6b, so that the trimmed edges face the interior corners. The dotted line is illustrative for this instruction, it is not present on the physical panel.
*This illustration shows the panels as viewed from the back. Refer to Step 3 in this manual for important wall preparation and trimming guidelines
C. Identify the wall that requires the perforations for shower head and valve.
Use a hole saw to cut a hole for each at the needed locations.
NOTE: Use painters’ tape over the area that will be cut, cut with the
décor side up to avoid damage or chipping.
D. Dry-fit lateral panels to the lateral wall shower areas to confirm correct fitting. If additional trimming is needed, repeat step 6A and 6B.
7. Lateral Wall Panel: Installation

modified thinset or polyurethane construction adhesive to wall panel “A” and to
the left lateral wall area (only where the panel will be installed).
NOTE: Do not apply thinset or adhesive to the waterproof flange.
B. Ensuring the directional arrows are pointing up, press the wall panel “A” against the prepped wall area using even pressure. Slide and shim panels as needed to align the pattern. Once the pattern is aligned, check for level across the panel surface, using a rubber mallet to adjust leveling as needed.
C. Clean the shower wall area and wall panels of any debris or dust. Apply modified thinset or polyurethane construction adhesive to wall panel “D” and to the right lateral wall area (only where the panel will be installed). NOTE: Do not apply thinset or adhesive to the waterproof flange.
D. Ensuring the directional arrows are pointing up, press the wall panel “D” against the prepped wall area using even pressure. Slide and shim panels as needed to align the pattern. Once the pattern is aligned, check for level across the panel surface, using a rubber mallet to adjust leveling as needed.
E. Clean all the panels of any excess adhesive before it dries.
8. Shower Wall Support and Finish
A. To ensure proper adhesion of the wall panels to the shower walls, use cargo
bars or 2×4 lumber to apply pressure to each of the panels against the shower
walls while curing. These braces should be left in place for the recommended
curing time of the thinset or construction adhesive used. Once the curing time
has expired, remove the cargo bars or lumber.
NOTE: Removing the supports before the recommended curing time may cause
the product to shift or loosen from the wall.
NOTE: Excessive pressure during bracing can deform or damage the room walls or the wall panels, always check with your level and only use the necessary pressure to hold the panels in place.
B. Apply 100% bath silicone sealant to all wall seams as highlighted below.
C. Install shower head and valve along with other shower accessories, all accesories must be anchored to the studs. Any perforations made to your wall panels must be sealed with silicone.
D. Follow the recommended curing time of the bath silicone used. Refrain from using the shower until this curing time has expired as water may inhibit the silicone from curing.
