FAQ

  • Q: How long does the adhesive take to cure?
A: The adhesive needs 24 hours to reach full cure after installation.

  • Q: What should I do if I encounter excessive adhesive during trowel application?
A: Be careful not to allow excessive amounts of adhesive to remain on the surface from the trowel. Excess adhesive can telegraph through the new flooring.

Tool Required for Installation

  • Tape Measure
  • Utility Knife
  • Eye Protection
  • Gloves
  • Square Ruler
  • Chalk Line
  • Based on installation method: 3/8″ Nap Roller- Releasable Installation or 1/16″ x 1/32″ x 1/32″ U Notch Trowel- Permanent Installation

Approved Substrates

Use on concrete that is on, above or below grade in the absence of excessive moisture and alkalinity. Underlayment grade OSB, cut back residue when reduced to a fine film, APA registered underlayment plywood, Gypsum or light weight concrete primed with Flex-Prime Universal Primer or Mohawk Prime Coat VP23 primer, radiant heated subfloors less than 85°F (29° C) Note: Aftermarket radiant heating systems require the approval otrf resilient flooring over their systems from the manufacturer of the radiant heating system, non-cushion backed sheet vinyl. VCT, terrazzo with waxes and polishes removed on, above, and below grade.

Substrate Preparation

The floor must be structurally sound, clean, flat (within 3/16″ in a 10-ft. span) and dry. Remove all foreign substances such as existing adhesives, wax, grease, dirt, concrete curing compounds and any other substance that would interfere with a good bond.
DO NOT USE CHEMICAL ADHESIVE REMOVERS. Fill all holes and cracks with a cement-based patching compound and sand high spots. Note: Porous surfaces require priming the surface with Flex-Prime or Mohawk Prime Coat VP23 floor primer allowing for proper bonding of the adhesive.

Moisture Testing

Test all concrete substrates for moisture emissions, following ASTM F-1869 Anhydrous Calcium chloride test method. Testing should not exceed 10 lb./1000 sq. ft. /24 hours (3.6 kg/93 sq. m/24 hours) and ASTM F 2170 test method should not exceed 99% RH or less (using Mohawk V-One adhesive). If both tests are performed, the RH test is the qualifying standard.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the substrate the substrate preparation instructions above.
  2. The jobsite needs to be maintained between 45°F – and 115°F, 24 hours before, during, and 24 hours after installation. The adhesive needs 24 hours to reach full cure after installation.
  3. Application of adhesive:

Please pay special attention to the additional application of Flex-Prime or Mohawk Prime Coat VP23 primer over porous surfaces ROLL ON APPLICATION FOR TRANSITIONAL FULL SPREAD INSTALLATION METHOD:

PAINT ROLLER AND COVERAGE

  • 3/8″ nap paint roller
  • Over non-porous or primed substrates (dry to touch) (LVT/LVP)
  • Up to 350 sq. ft./gal 7.4-8.6 sq. m./l.

Using a 3/8″ nap paint roller, apply the Mohawk V-One after fully saturating the roller. The application should always be an even and heavy coat with an orange peel texture. The adhesive requires drying to the touch, assuring no adhesive transfers to your finger or hand when touched. Note: Porous surfaces require priming the surface using Flex-Prime or Mohawk Prime Coat VP23 Primer and allowing to dry.

TROWEL ON APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT INSTALLATION METHOD:

TROWEL SIZE AND COVERAGE

  • 1/16″ x 1/32″ x 1/32″ U notch
  • 1.6mm x 0.8mm x 0.8mm
  • Up to 260 sq. ft./gal 5.4-6.4 sq. m./l.

Light Commercial warranty covers permanent bond installation
Coverage is approximate and may vary depending on porosity of substrate and the angle at which the trowel is held.

IT IS THE INSTALLER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO APPLY THE PROPER AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE FOR THE JOB CONDITION
Using a new 1/16″ x 1/32″ x 1/32″ U notch trowel, trowel the Mohawk V-One to the surface allowing an even coat of adhesive. Be sure not to allow excessive amounts of adhesive to remain on the surface from the trowel or ridges can telegraph through the new flooring. The adhesive requires drying to the touch assuring no adhesive transfers to your finger or hand when touched. Note: Porous surfaces require priming the surface using Flex-Prime or Mohawk Prime Coat VP23 Primer and allowing to dry.

Installing Materials

  • Place the Ultimate Flex LVT on the adhesive and smooth the surface rolling the joints with a vinyl seam roller. Throughout the installation, remove air from under the Ultimate Flex LVT by applying pressure to a push broom, working from the center of the area towards the edges. This will expel trapped air and ensure 100% contact with the adhesive. Do not wet mop the floor for 72 hours after installation is complete. Note: It is the sole responsibility of the contractor/installer to determine the proper porosity of the subfloor, apply the proper amount of adhesive and ensure that all instructions, procedures, and practices are strictly adhered to.

CLEANUP:

  • Wet Adhesive: Use a clean, white cloth dampened with water and gently wipe the area. Dry the area with a clean cloth to ensure any remaining adhesive film is removed.
  • Dry Adhesive: Using denatured alcohol or mineral spirits applied to a clean white cloth, apply the solvent to the affected area and gently wipe. Rotate the cloth as need to avoid transferring any removed adhesive back to the flooring. Do not apply the solvent directly to the flooring. Use a clean, white cloth lightly dampened with a floor cleaner to remove any trace of the adhesive remover.

Care and Maintenance

Place the Ultimate Flex LVT on the adhesive and smooth the surface rolling the joints with a vinyl seam roller. Throughout the installation, remove air from under the Ultimate Flex LVT by applying pressure to a push broom, working from the center of the area towards the edges. Note: It is the sole responsibility of the contractor/installer to determine the proper porosity of the subfloor, apply the proper amount of adhesive and ensure that all instructions, procedures, and practices are strictly adhered to.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Prevent indentations and scratches with the use of non-staining floor protectors or felt pads on the legs of chairs, appliances and all heavy furniture. Floor protectors should be at least one inch in diameter.
  • Never push, pull or drag furniture, appliances, or other items across the floor. Always lift and carry furniture or heavy items.
  • Do not flood the floor or subject to standing water.
  • Protect your floor from tracked-in dirt by using mats at all outside entrances. Mats should have a non-rubberized backing and be marked as non-staining.
  • Avoid tracking in tar or asphalt from driveways.
  • Protect your floors against burns. Burns from cigarettes, matches or other extremely hot items can cause permanent damage.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can cause discoloration.

Cleaning Recommendations

  • Sweep the floor regularly with a soft bristle broom to remove loose dirt.
  • Always read the cautionary information on all cleaners prior to use.
  • Wash the floor with non-abrasive, neutral PH floor cleaner approved for vinyl floors.
  • For everyday cleaning, a mop moistened with warm water will suffice.
  • Keep pets’ nails trimmed.

Not Recommended

  • Do not use abrasive or detergent-based cleaners.
  • Do not use a vacuum cleaner that has a beater bar attachment.
  • Do not use “mop and shine” cleaners or finishes.
