ABOUT PROGRAMMING

Self- programming requires you to have at least one key that has been programmed and can be used normally. If you do not have another working key, you must go to a qualified locksmith or dealer for programming . You must do the following two parts in order for the key to fully function. You must test them after you program them to make sure you can open and close the doors. It will take a bit of time, maybe 10-20 seconds after programming before the lock/ unlock and car start will work, please be patient. Press the button on the new key to see if it opens the car door. lf not, wait another 20 seconds . Then try again. lf that doesn’t work, repeat the process.

Step 1: Program the Prius to start the ignition

  1. Enter the car, close and unlock all doors, and ensure that the car is closed.

  2. Insert the old working key into the slot and remove it fairly quickly 4 times in a row, then insert it a fifth time, leaving it in.

  3. Open and close the driver’s door 6 times fairly quickly.

  4. Take the old key out of the slot. A red car-shaped dashboard light that stays on without blinking indicates the car is in programming mode
A.If the red dashboard light does n’ come on,it means you’re not in programming mode.Go back to step 1 and try the program at a efferent speed(faster or slower)
B.If the lig ht is on, proceed to step 4.

  5. Insert a new key and leave it in the slot. Watch the red burglar light flashing on the dashboard. When it stops flashing and goes dark, your new car keys are all set. (This may take a minute) .

  6. Take out the new key, and you have completed the “start/stop” part of the program.

Step 2: Program the door lock

  1. Open the driver’s door. The key is not in the slot and the door is unlocked.
  2. Insert the old key into the slot and ta ke it out twice within 5 seconds.
  3. Close and open the cab door twice.
  4. Insert and ta ke out the key of the old car once.
  5. Close and open the cab door twice again
  6. Insert the key of the old car into the slot and close the door.
  7. Without hitting the brakes, press the power button, wait, press again, wait, press again, a third time, turn the car off again.
  8. Take the old key out of the slot. You will be in “Add mode”.
  9. The car should lock and unlock the doors twice to verify that it is in Add mode.
  10. Hold both buttons on the new key for one and a ha If seconds at the same time.
  11. For 3 seconds, only press the lock button on the new key.
  12. The car should have a quic k lock/unlock response to verify that the new keys are all set. If the car responds by locking/unlocking twice, that means it is not working. Either try again, your keys are broken, or you have assigned too many keys to the car.
  13. To finish the process, open and then close the cab door, or put the key in the slot.
