ON SAFETY
Should any liquid or solid object fall into the system, unplug the system’s power cord and have the system checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further.
ON OPERATION
- Do not drive the speaker system with a continuous wattage exceeding the maximum input power of the system.
- If the polarity of the speaker connections are not correct, the bass tones will be weak and the position of the various instruments obscure.
- Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may result in a short-circuit.
- Before connecting, turn off the amplifier to avoid damaging the speaker system.
- The volume level should not be turned up to the point of distortion.
ON PLACEMENT
- Do not install the speakers in an inclined position.
- Do not place the speakers in locations that are:
- Extremely hot or cold
- Dusty or dirty
- Very humid
- Subject to vibrations
- Subject to direct sunlight
- Near magnetic cards (credit cards, commuter passes, etc.) Magnetic cards may fail due to the magnets in the speaker units.
- Near televisions The speakers are not magnetically shielded. Therefore, if you use the speakers near CRT-based televisions, color shading occurs on the television screen.
- Use caution when placing the speaker on a specially treated (waxed, oiled, polished, etc.) surfaces, as staining or discoloration may result.
ON CLEANING
Clean the speaker cabinets with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution or water. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine. If you have any questions or problems concerning your speaker system, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.
CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS TO AN AMPLIFIER
Connect the speakers to the speaker output terminals of an amplifier using the speaker cords (not supplied). Make sure power to all components (included the subwoofer) is turned off before starting the hook up. When connecting, tighten the speaker terminals by turning them in the direction of the arrows in the illustration A-1.
Notes
- Make sure the plus (+) and the minus (–) terminals on the speakers are matched to the corresponding plus (+) and minus (–) terminals on the amplifier.
- Be sure to tighten the screws of the speaker terminals securely as loose screws may become a source of noise.
- Make sure all connections are firm. Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may cause a short-circuit.
- For details on speaker connection of the amplifier, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your amplifier.
Tip
Black striped wires are minus (–) in polarity, and should be connected to the minus (–) speaker terminals.
POSITIONING THE SPEAKERS

Frequently Asked Questions
How many drivers does a 3-way speaker usually have?****
A speaker with three distinct drivers—a bass, midrange, and treble driver—is known as a three-way speaker. The bass component is frequently handled by the woofer. The treble and super-treble sections are solely the responsibility of the tweeter, while the midrange driver is in charge of the midrange or mid- high frequency.
Do 3-way speakers need a crossover?****
The balance of the sound reproduction will be off if the combined output is too much or too little. A 2-way or 3-way speaker system’s overall sound quality depends greatly on how the crossover is configured.
A Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speaker has what purpose?****
Bookshelf speakers ought to be set up on a table, shelf, or other elevated surface rather than on the floor. They are designed to improve sound in small- to medium-sized venues. Just like anything else, doing your homework before making a choice will be beneficial.
The Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers may they be used on their side?****
Bookshelf speakers can be positioned on their side, albeit it’s not optimal. The sound quality will probably suffer as a result of this. Horizontal posture, while not ideal, might be okay if your objective is casual listening. For the optimum sound quality, bookshelf speakers should not be placed sideways.
Can the front speakers be Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
Bookshelf speakers are added to a standard home theatre surround sound system, which already features a potent subwoofer. For smaller systems, they can be used as fronts as well as rears or surrounds (instead of floor-standing speakers).
What musical quality are the Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
Bookshelf speakers aren’t just for listening to music. A set of excellent bookshelf speakers may deliver voice clarity and dynamics that are significantly superior to any TV’s built-in speakers for watching movies and TV. Additionally, many of the models we recommend have a centre speaker designed expressly to simulate conversation.
How durable are the Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
The answers to these questions rely on the speakers’ individual parts, the construction’s quality, and their features. Speakers typically last 10 to 20 years before needing to be replaced if you take care of them.
How are Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers tested?****
When you measure them with a multimeter, you frequently get results that would make you think the speaker isn’t very good. The best way to test them is to SLOWLY play a signal through them while listening to it to hear if any sound is produced. The speaker has to be replaced if it doesn’t work or sounds awful.
Which Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers should I pick?****
Larger speakers don’t automatically generate better sound. They frequently equal greater volume than the majority. Larger size also equates to larger drivers and more room for the amplifier circuitry if the speaker is active. If you value volume, you might want to think about a larger bookshelf speaker.
Can I put Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers on the floor?****
If your speakers are small enough, you might want to consider placing them on a desk, shelf, or console. NEVER set your speakers directly on the ground. To protect your technology from an unforeseen flood, buy a stand or, at the absolute least, make one.
Where are the best places to put Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
One of the High Fidelity golden rules is how the loudspeakers are positioned in relation to the listening position. The best listening position should be at 10 and 10, where bookshelf loudspeakers should be oriented.
Do supports improve the sound quality of Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
It’s no accident that bookshelf speakers sound best when mounted on a stand. This is done in order to lift the little box speaker off of objects like bookshelves, floors, and walls using a properly built loudspeaker stand.
What is the ideal distance between Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers?****
Aim for a 4 foot separation for bookshelf speakers and an 8 foot separation for floor-standing speakers. Sound will mix and blend together between speakers that are too near together. If they are too far apart, a gap will appear between the two parts of the stereo image (more on this later).
Are the Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers suitable for watching movies?****
We get inquiries all the time about how well bookshelf speakers work with home theatre setups. We always respond with a loud “yes.” Bookshelf speakers have characteristics that enable them to function well across your home theatre sound system.
Are Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers wall-mountable?****
I put bookshelf speakers in a wall hollow, and they work really well. They are not perfect, but they are significantly better than any on-wall speaker I have heard. The best speakers will have front ports, but rear ports should also function well if you have adequate space behind the speaker.
What size bookshelf speakers are Sony SS-CS5?****
Floor standers are typically approximately three feet tall, while bookshelf speakers are just about a foot tall. Due to their bigger size, floor-standing speakers could contain more drivers (the part of a speaker that creates sound).
