HDMI Output Connections:

- Connect HDMI OUT2 to the HDMI input on your AV receiver or soundbar.
Operating Modes:
- eARC ON: Audio playback from TV via OUT 2.
- eARC OFF: Audio playback from HDMI input via OUT 2.
- EDID out 1: Used by the TV for audio & video format.
- EDID out 2: Used by the AV receiver for higher audio formats support.
Input Connection:
Connect an external HDMI source to the input. Audio & Video are sent to the TV
via OUT 1 and sound is received by the AVR via OUT 2.
Setting Up eARC / ARC Mode:
- Connect your TV’s HDMI input to eARC/ARC OUT 1 on the VAX01202.
- Connect Audio Out 2 to an HDMI input on your sound system.
- Set the dip switch to eARC OFF position for proper audio routing.
- The television will receive the signal from the HDMI source and output sound with a black screen picture at audio output OUT 2.
FAQ:
Q: What should I do if the TV remains silent when using OUT2 with eARC
OFF?
A: Make sure the dip switch is set to eARC OFF and try adjusting the EDID
settings for OUT2 to ensure compatibility with your TV and sound system.
Best practice & hints for use in eARC Audio Extractor mode:
- Activate eARC on the TV
- Set your TV to Audio Passthrough Mode for support of PCM5.1/PCM7.1, for Dolby Atmos sometimes Auto mode is better
- Power on AVR, VAX01202 and TV before starting the gaming console or media player
- Some new TVs do not pass through DTS audio. In that case let your player decode the DTS audio to PCM5.1/7.1.
- You can control volume and mute/unmute with the TV remote via HDMI-CEC, if your AVR supports that through its HDMI input.
- Automatic switch-off for TV and AVR works fine in many combinations. Automatic switch-on of AVR is often not possible. However, there are some TV and AVR combinations which won‘t start up or shut down automatically via the VAX01202.
- Some old AVR does not support volume control via their inputs. In such a case you can configure your TV remote control to send infrared commands directly to the sound system. To do that, open universal device control (or similiar) in your TV menu and configure it for your sound system. Apple TV or Fire TV Cube have the same universal device control function, in case your TV has not.

eARC / ARC operating mode
Make sure that the HDMI eARC or ARC connector on the television is connected
to the eARC/ARC OUT 1 of the VAX01202. Connect Audio Out 2 to an HDMI input of
your sound system. Set the dip switch (3) to the eARC ON position. You may
also need to switch the audio output on the television to HDMI ARC. The sound
from the TV set (from apps, the TV reception unit and connected HDMI devices)
is now output at audio output OUT 2. The internal TV speakers usually switch
off. If the TV set is equipped with eARC, all audio formats can be
transmitted. If the TV set has ARC, audio formats up to a maximum of Dolby
Digital Plus can be output. On some TV sets, only stereo or Dolby Digital 5.1
is possible. Some TVs don’t pass through DTS audio. In that case let your
player decode the audio track.
HDMI pass/audio splitter Operating mode
Connect an HDMI input on your TV to eARC/ARC OUT 1 on the VAX01202 and Audio
Out 2 to an HDMI input on your sound system. Connect an HDMI source to the
INPUT (4) input. Set the dip switch (3) to the eARC OFF position. The
television receives the looped-through signal from the HDMI source. In
addition, the sound with black picture is output at audio output OUT 2. You
can influence the negotiation of the supported audio formats with the Dip
switch. As a rule, the setting OUT2 is useful so that all audio formats of the
sound system are supported. The TV set may then remain silent.
